What artist, band, or song(s) remind you of the WoT?

track 1: blackened: lews therin

track 2: ...and justice for all: perrin/whitecloaks

track 3: eye of the beholder: mat

track 4: one: a mix about thom's "death" and moving on by themself (the reality of the song can make anyone cry, but i won't go there)

track 5: the shortest straw: the eye of the world climax

track 6: harvester of sarrow: ishamael/ba'alzamon to rand after learning who he is

then rand's deepest issue begins

track 7: the frayed ends of sanity: covers rand over many books, but starts with tdr. the end at vog.

track 8: to live is to die: vog realization, leads into the last battle. (lots of epic moments in this peice)

track 9: dyers eve: the last battle.

anyway i thnk this this disk covers the whole series, the earlier tracks clearly by my opinion cover more introductory things while the later are purely focused on rand, but i still think it works if you listen to the tracks. dyers eve is even the hardest most millitant track on the disk, if not the longest. and to live is to die reflects zen rand perfectly. frayed ends of sanity explain rand before vog, and even before darth rand, but i do admit that i need to update, i think this disk might just be rand without need of others. it just seems to cover his experience (to me atleast) and i think this album is a must have or a must listen to any wot lover.

I know some will bomb me for this but Coldplay's Viva La Vida- It makes me think of the main three, in different sequence... and specifically around the last two books of the series.

Thinking of Rand- clear references here that fit to LT and the beggar scene in ED.

I used to rule the world

Seas would rise when I gave the word

Now in the morning I sleep alone

Sweep the streets I used to own

Thinking of Mat- nails him pretty much

I used to roll the dice

Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes

Thinking of Perrin/Rand- Perrin's reluctance as Wolf King/Leader and Rand with Callandor

Listen as the crowd would sing

"Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!"

One minute I held the key

Next the walls were closed on me

Thinking of Rand- plans falling apart, his personal walls, his breakdown on Dragonmount, calls to wondergirls, allies

And I discovered that my castles stand

Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand

I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing

Roman Cavalry choirs are singing

Be my mirror, my sword and shield

My missionaries in a foreign field

Thinking of Mat- Mat's nature, Tuon relationship;

For some reason I can't explain

Once you go there was never

Never an honest word

And that was when I ruled the world

Thinking of Rand- Wind, one power, war, Rand realized

It was the wicked and wild wind

Blew down the doors to let me in

Shattered windows and the sound of drums

People couldn't believe what I'd become

Thinking of Perrin- Perrin's Whitecloak/Ghealdan issues,

Revolutionaries wait

For my head on a silver plate

Just a puppet on a lonely string

Oh who would ever want to be king?

Sure not a perfect fit, but every time I hear it, I see them. And hey, there's "cowbell"

Here's a teaser for a soon-to-be-recorded song that I have high hopes for. Think 6-piece melodic metal band with multiple WoT/ASoIaF nerds.

I don't know if any of you have played Dark Souls, but the final boss theme reminds me so much of something that would be in aMoL. It's an incredibly sad and beautiful piece, I think it would fit perfectly..somewhere

I can only think of a couple at the moment.

Disturbed: Mistress. This fits in the mirror world in TGH, when Rand bumps into "Selene". In fact, Disturbed as a whole.

The english dub of DBZ's epic track (When a main villian is killed) for Natrim's Barrow.

HURT in general for Rand in the mid-to-late books. if anyone captures pain and paranoia, its HURT.

I'm sure there's some Godsmack thrown in there somewhere.

Most Mumford and Sons songs remind me of some element of the Wheel.

For instance Little Lion Man sounds exactly like it was written about Gawyn (perhaps even from the perspective of Elayne)

Weep for yourself, my man,

You'll never be what is in your heart

Weep little lion man,

You're not as brave as you were at the start

Rate yourself and rake yourself,

Take all the courage you have left

Wasted on fixing all the problems that you made in your own head

(chorus)

But it was not your fault but mine

and it was your heart on the line

I really [fracked] it up this time

Didn't I, my dear? didn't i my

Tremble for yourself, my man,

You know that you have seen this all before

Tremble little lion man,

You'll never settle any of your score

Your grace is wasted in your face,

Your boldness stands alone among the wreck

now learn from your mother or else spend your days biting

your own neck

(chorus 2x)

But it was not your fault but mine

and it was your heart on the line

I really [fracked] it up this time

didn't I, my dear? (second time) didn't I my dear?

ah ah (multi)

(chorus)

But it was not your fault but mine

and it was your heart on the line

I really [fracked] it up this time

didn't i my dear?

(chorus above it)

There are others. After the Storm reminds me of Rand's whole dark arc, as does Awake My Soul. Thistle and Weeds has a very Tarmon Gai'dony feel, as does Dustbowl Dance and the Cave.

Can't believe you metal heads have not picked up on this one yet; Of Wolf and Man by Metallica for Perrin is perfect especially for the Wolf dream.

Always thought Mat's anthem should be Ace of Spades

I've always thought Room a Thousand Years Wide by Soundgarden fit perfectly the Ba'alzamon dreams that Rand, Mat and Perrin began having shortly after leaving Emond's Field. Even the music (to me) fits in the background, with the description of the otherworldy clouds ripping through the sky beyond the balcony. The lyrics aren't in any great detail, but to me, they describe the Dark One chasing/haunting them and the feeling of time or history repeating itself. Especially considering who they turn out to be; men churned out by the Wheel over and over again.

Listen, hear, he is inside

One who lives while others lie

I close my eyes and walk a thousand years

a thousand years that aren't mine

It seems he's near me as I walk

One who loved what love denied

He lives these years that I walk blind

All these years cannot be mine

Tomorrow begat tomorrow

Tomorrow begat tomorrow

Tomorrow begat tomorrow

A thousand doors a thousand lies

Rooms a thousand years wide

He walks in the cold sun and wind

All these years will not begin

Tomorrow begat tomorrow

Tomorrow begat tomorrow

Tomorrow begat tomorrow

The very first time I played/read the lyrics to Castles Burning by Savatage, I went running for my copy of EoTW to read the prologue again. The whole song isn't a clear fit but 2 verses certainly struck me as perfect for the aftermath of the War of Power.

To describe the beginning of the breaking of the world:

"Kings without their armor

Men without their honor

Spit out desecration

Pieces of a nation

Buried in the ground

Screams without a sound

Burn the castle down"

And then describing Lews Therin Kinslayer himself and the confrontation with Ishamael:

"In the maze he wanders

Looks about and ponders

Shadows mock and taunt him

And the ghosts that haunt him

Chain him to the ground

Screams without a sound

Burn the castle down"

Did not realize that so many fans were metal heads.

Goes to show that metal heads are just smart and intelligent bookworms.

This reminds me musically of Rands journey.

For Rand, post Dragonmount epiphany, nothing fits better then Carry on Wayward Son, by Kansas.

As I rose above the noise and confusion,

Just to get a glimpse beyond the illusion,

I was soaring ever higher,

But I flew too high.

Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man,

Though my mind could think I still was a mad man.

I hear the voices when I'm dreaming,

And I hear them say:

Carry on my wayward son,

There'll be peace when you are done,

Lay your weary head to rest,

Don't you cry no more.

Masquerading as a man with a reason,

My charade is the event of the season,

And if I claim to be a wise man,

It surely means that I don't know.

Through a stormy sea of moving emotion,

Tossed about I'm like a ship on the ocean,

I set a course for winds of fortune,

But I hear the voices say:

Carry on my wayward son,

There'll be peace when you are done,

Lay your weary head to rest,

Don't you cry no more.

Carry on: You will always remember.

Carry on: Nothing equals the splendor.

Now your life's no longer empty.

Surely heaven waits for you.

Carry on my wayward son,

There'll be peace when you are done,

Lay your weary head to rest,

Don't you cry no more.

Everytime I hear the song "Circle" by Slipknot I think of WoT. These lines in particular:

"Give me the dust, of my father

Stand on the face, of the ancients

Bury the sacred flesh, of time itself."

-Makes me think especially of Rand, being the reincarnated Lews Therin, he possesses ancient qualities.

And for some reason this line always makes me think of Graendal hiding out at Nattin's Barrow, probably because the first time I listened to this song, I was reading TGS:

"There's a sacred place, Roselle keeps safe."

I'm just waiting for Thom Merrilin to write a song about Moridin called 'Death, and all his friends'.

Well not too sure if this will fit for anyone else but with some the the rand scenes where he just wants to become harder and harder the song "not enough" by "our lady peace" comes to mind.

Heard a song today (don't know so don't ask, was a snippet really) that had lyrics that sounded like "don't mess with me I'm Rand Al'Thor" before I jumped out of the car.
