Where else can you play Mafia?

I've been wondering where else I could possibly go to hone my skills and improve my play while waiting for a new game to open up on DM. I looked at the games on the MafiaScum forum, and they seem to drag endlessly. I don't feel like committing to a newbie game that takes a month or two to finish. DM basic games seem to have the same number of players, so how hard can it be to complete a game within a reasonable amount of time? Are there any other sites out there where people can go to play Mafia?

Basel - other than MafiaScum (which I agree, drags endlessly... it took forever to get into a newbie game, and while the few days I was trying to play taught me a lot, it was verrrrrry slow)...

I've seen others talk about games on MyndJack (in fact Nolder is doing signups for one now)... and the infamous JetNation, where I think I'd be a bit frightened to sign up to be honest, just based on the regulars who pop over here now and then.:laugh:

I'm sure there are more, but those are the ones I can recall seeing mentioned recently.

Song: I haven't heard of MyndJack. JetNation sounds intriguing, but I'm not a Jets fan. In all honesty, if I were a Jets fan who went to that site to discuss the Jets with other fans of American football who all love the same team, I would be pretty offended by people joining the forum just for the Mafia, without posting at all about the Jets, American football, sports in general, or anything else related to New York City or New Jersey. This seems kind of relevant to DM as well, since there are a few players that I've wondered if they are here just for the Mafia, without ever having read so much as one WoT chapter. I wonder how the MafiaScum denizens would like it if a bunch of DMers joined there and began discussing all things WoT without ever signing up for a game? It strikes me as disrespectful to the forum's actual reason for being there in the first place.

Thanks for the info.

And after checking out MyndJack, I'm not sure that what I had to say about JetNation doesn't also apply there. It isn't a website devoted specifically to Mafia; Mafia is one subforum. So it seems like going there just for the Mafia would have just as much a lack of respect for the site's actual mission as doing so at JetNation would be.

Personally, I like the folks and the atmosphere 'round here, so I probably won't go hunting somewhere else to play... I've got enough to keep myself occupied until the next game I can squeeze into :)

re: not joining JN/MJ because you don't talk about the Jets/Radio stuff

I'm preeeettty sure they don't mind

I'm signed up there and I don't talk about football or radio stuff

but anyway there's a chat site I used to frequent called EpicMafia: http://www.epicmafia.com

I haven't been there in awhile but a lot of the people there are huge jerks

it's still fun when you get a good game but it can be frustrating as well

if you're really looking to improve I'd suggest going to JN

a lot of those guys are really good

but yeah that's all I know of really

I'd take that a step farther and say they welcome new faces at both sites. It's hard to get enough people signed up for games sometimes, so a new face would be welcome. One warning - JetNation is NOT PG-13.

Bumping this cause it seems like the most relevant thread, rather than starting a whole new one. Has anyone here ever played Mafia at Westeros? I've had a forum account there for about a year now, but haven't actually posted for a few months. I only just found out they have mafia in the last couple of weeks. They seem to have a strange setup from what I can tell. There is a whole different site for the Mafia forum, and all gameplay is done under alt accounts so that no one knows who anyone else is. I suppose that gets rid of any arguments over meta. I just got to wondering if anyone had impressions of their experiences there.

I've not played there before but have done the Alt accounts game play at Myndjack. It makes for a very interesting game since we all tend to have bias' against/for people once we get to know them. The alt account really makes you concentrate on what's actually being said. It's good stuff.

I imagine it would be. The bit about Westeros that I find strange is making the alt game the norm for a forum, rather than something just done every once in a while. And I'm finding myself pretty surprised that no DMers have played there, given the amount of overlap in readership between WoT and ASOIAF.

I didn't venture outside of the book/tv discussion section of their forums until well after I started playing here. And wasn't particularly interested in trying to learn their style since there's enough to keep me occupied here

too lazy to make a new thread and this one seems the most relevant atm

if anyone is itching to play in a new game I'm hosting a 12 player western themed mafia with some special rules (No Coroner, Last Will) on JetNation

there's 7 spots left as of this post

I honestly have no idea. The time stamp says almost 3:30am, I was certainly hitting the tail end of Drunk MafiaTM. I don't remember making this post at all.

I thought the comment was a little strange as well. I was thinking, Wow..did I really leave an impression 2 years ago? I was a newb back then..so then I thought he is confused.

BTW< since I'm the one to bring up Westeros, I tried spectating a couple of games there. I found it tremendously hard to keep up with because the phases go by very fast. The days are 32 hours and the nights are 8 hours. This means that the threads accumulate posts like crazy. So I don't think I will be playing there; I'd spend so much time catching up I wouldn't be able to actually play the game in between staying updated.
