so if you had all the money in the world, how would you spend it to make yourself happy?

and if it involves buying stuff for other people, you have all the money in the world for that too.

For me it would be about making sure all my immediate family were able to live a comfortable life. I would not be into buying a bunch of expensive fancy stuff. I would like to travel extensively. To see the great cities of Europe. Visit beautiful tropical islands. Go around and see as much of this country as possible. Maybe meet some of my DM friends if they were also interested.

Normal house, normal car, nice TV, video games, all the books and movies I want, laptop computer for DM. don't need much.

sounds nice. would your happiness involve taking this job and shoving it?

i know mine would. i can get my happiness without working, at least not at something like... anything like i've ever done.

also - do you think that after having spent modestly... and still having all the money you could want... would your tastes become more expensive, would you think of more things you wanted?

would you live where you live now?

wouldn't you want more... when you realized you could have more than you need, and all that you could want?

I would definitely not have a job. I think that I would try to find something that I would love to do. Maybe some sort of charity work or something that I would consider fun like coaching kids sports.

I would like to think that I would not change my tastes due to having access to fancier things. I have had a little money before but did not really spend excessively.

I might live here still. I might look to move somewhere a little more moderate. The desert is HOT in the summer and gets fairly cold in the winter. I would most likely still live here in So Cal, but might move back closer to LA.

no job for sure.

would have to buy an island, white sand, perfect bathtub bay, for summer, and drag everyone there with me. if they wouldn't go... neither would i. but they'd go.

something nice and north for summer.

my desires would not remian moderate.

this is just the very tip of the iceberg.

and i'd want my family rich, not just comfortable.

the steps are on their own tho.

I would start to study again. I would buy me a little bigger apartment with a bathtub, fireplace and a library. I would buy new books. Then I would travel a lot. I want to go to a lot of places, starting with Iceland. Either I would buy me a dishwasher or give Turin an own plane so he could come visit me more often. I would give more money than I do now to the tree project in Tanzania. I would see to it that my family has what they need. (Not necessary what they want.) I don´t think I would live a more luxurious daily life actually. I still suck at cooking so I don´t need to buy more expensive grocery.

such modest desires...

but i wonder what would really happen after the reality of unlimited wealth set in...

and if anything would ever be enough afterwards.

knowing myself... i'm guessing this would be an issue.

next thing on the list - servants. lots of them.

heavily compulsed.

someone else to make sure the daily activities and paperwork and bill paying got done.

someone to do all the cleaning and cooking unless i was in the mood, and someone to clean up after.

someone to deal with the pets, cause there would be dogs as well as cats, and people to walk them... some of this is from the christmas list but... it's been on my mind. i miss dogs.

and on and on.

i wish to be served.

For starters, I would learn to drive and buy a car. Not one that says "Look at all my money" but I'd still want a nice one.

My family really want to move house, so I'd buy this house off them for the full asking price and I'd also buy a second home for myself in Blackpool and split my time between each.

I would shove my job as the money is barely worth it now and, whilst in Blackpool, volunteer my time to help the charity Donna's Dream House.

Other than that, I'd take all my friends on a massive shopping spree and visit Harry Potter World =)

very good starters. driving is the most fun i have without breaking any commandments and not too many laws.

so i'd buy more cars. not necessarily ones that say look at my money, but fine ones.

and houses for all, for sure, summer and winter. and i think we'd all want boats, cause i'm pretty sure everyone i know wants to live near the ocean or at least a biiiiig lake.

i would probably not volunteer my time but i'd throw money around like it was going out of style.

..... i'm compiling a list for when i hit the lottery. cause i found myself thinking the other day that even if i hit the lottery, it wouldn't make me any happier.

and then i slapped myself upside the head for being such a dope, because of course it would if i used it right. just have to figure out what i want.

your suggestions are all very helpful. ruling things in and out and giving me better ideas than the ones my brain was coming up with.

all i have to do now is win the thing....

after i finish the list.

We had a couple win £160, 000, 000 on the Euro lottery, and that what I think of when you mean this.

i would do the normal...make sure all close friends and family are sorted for life.

find a lovely old farmhouse in either Devon, or Cumbria maybe even Scotland or Wales. have other houses on the farm and pay someone to run my farm (organically). make sure that renewable resources are used for all electricity etc.

The farmhouse would have to have lovely log fires in the main reception rooms.

i would learn all kinds of arts and crafts and anything I made would go straight to charity shops.

I would own a Welsh Springer spaniel and a black and White English Springer Spaniel. I may even breed Welsh springers, they are very uncommon and a gorgeous red and white colouring.

I would have a pad in London, for going to watch the shows or for weekends out.

that's a lovely picture. i like the farmhouse...

assimilating...

my hobbit house will be a farmhouse... and there will be a farm... and i will do none of the work unless i'm in the mood.

in one of the IT departments associated with my office, the whole staff went in on a lottery (we all do, ours has 50 people, theirs had like 8 or 9). and they hit big. $20 mil each after taxes. they said they'd keep working. lol. the whole department quit by the next week. it was great. we're still trying to recover from that loss, but it was great.

but i would want more than $20 mil... the island's gonna cost a bit, and there's the family and all.

yes, the pad... i'd buy the apartment my step dad subletted in NY when i was in college. east 80s, still a fine neighborhood. quiet but close enough to anything i'd want to do in NY. and delivery... oh the sweet delivery...

Posted

I like the sound of the hobbit house.

I don't mind doing things on the farm, but only when I felt like it too...lol.

We pay tax on the money we put on the lottery, so anything we win is all tax free!

i have to say, if I won 20m I would not be in work! I don't like it that much!

I would love to visit New York...I would definitely envisage a huge shopping trip there, with a load of girlies...would be fun. My sister is going there later this year!

Delivery is good...

delivery and good public transortation are the things i miss most about NY. and the socialization which for some reason... i could do there... but can't manage at all anywhere else.

taxfree lottery.... nice... if we win here, we'd get half for taking it in a lump sum instead of betting we're gonna live 20 years for the payments... and lose another half to taxes. so $20 mil after taxes was a haul.

we all laughed when they did the news conference and said, sure, they'd be at work monday morning. long enough to do the exit interviews as it turned out.

i would go to work if i won, and stay until something annoyed me. which would take about 10 minutes.

i haven't gotten to say take this job and shove in in too long and i would really want to do that.

that's on the list. quitting.

Travel in which ever direction the wind was blowing.

I once had a college professor who retired early uber rich and took up teaching. People would ask them how rich they were and one day he said "lets just say when we thought about going out for dinner it wouldn't be to which restaurant, it would be to which city in which state."

Posted

nice. not one i'd pick... not at first anyway.

funny he took up teaching. i don't see taking up anything... and definitely not something related to what i do now.

maybe teaching's different.

I have this =)

The house, yes. The locals, no. I've lived here (on and off) for 17 years and I still don't understand them.

I should get a Devonshire to English dictionary. Strangely, my brother is the hardest to understand XD

He has a highly Devonshire accent and I have a crisp(some say "snooty") British accent XD If I have to pick a dialect I'll go with Lancashire.

haha...that is funny. Mind you the Somerset accent is worse. When we first moved here I had to go up to the local farm to get some eggs and the old guy rabbited on to me I didn't have a clue, so just gave him some money hoping it was enough, luckily he gave me change, But it was even thicker than that accent!

Neither are inspiring accents!! Luckily I don't have either...but then I have also lived many places and worked with people with all accents!
