Aes Sedai Damane

How can damane that were aes Sedai use the power to kill as they've sworn the oaths because surely that would overrule the sul'dam abilities to control them

They can't, they are pretty much useless as weapons except against Shadowspawn and DFs.

Week 21 Question: Just how can an Aes Sedai be a damane? Aren't they bound by the Third Oath: to not use the One Power as a weapon except to defend their lives, their Warder's life, or another sister's life? Wouldn't they be useless as damane to the Seanchan?

Robert Jordan Answers: The Aes Sedai captured by the Seanchan are indeed useless as weapons, except against Shadowspawn or Darkfriends, because they are bound by the Three Oaths, and that limits their value considerably since being weapons is a major use for damane. Damane are used for other tasks, however, including finding ores for mining (Egwene was tested for this, remember; it's a very valuable, and fairly rare, ability), for some mining operations where it would be too dangerous or uneconomical to use human miners (bringing ores out of the ground and refining them using the Power), and in some construction projects, especially where something very large or with a need for added strength is envisioned. The first two both require a high ability in Earth, which has faded considerably on "this" side of the Aryth Ocean and to a smaller degree on the other side, but construction projects and others things, such as producing Sky Lights, are well within the abilities of collared Aes Sedai. The Three Oaths don't inhibit them there at all.

Do the seachen realise this though because surely they'd want every damane to fight it battles theirs no point looking ore or doing skylights if you'd lose the battle now seems pointless caputuring them ,would it not be better to just kill them rather than waste tine an resources catching an looking after them

I'm not sure if they know why the Aes Sedai damane are useless in battle, but they have certainly noticed that they are. As for killing them, they would never do that because damane are far too valuable. Even if they are useless in battle, there are other uses for damane. Fighting is probably what they are mainly used for (despite what the seanchan might say), but things like entertainement, healing, searching for minerals, or countless other uses for damane make them very valuable. Besides I doubt they've given up trying to figure out how to make the Aes Sedai damane fight. And until they figure it out, they have many more damane to use in battle. All the resources it takess to keep them is an adam anyway, so there's far more to lose by killing them.

They know both why, though Fortuona noted that Mat believed the Aes Sedai managed to find ways around their Oaths, and has considered this point. So yes, they know its the Oaths, they know they've failed to force the Aes Sedai to break them, but they still havn't let themselves be one hundred percent sold on the idea.
