I think trash-talking anyone, even a fictitious character, sets a bad precedent. I try to make a habit of not doing it. Makes it too easy to carry on into the rest of my life. No one deserves it.

And that's my final answer.

I know, but I'd already posted in here, and I felt I had to say something. XD These kinds of things honestly do bother me.... It's just...not nice, I guess. It's one of the reasons I stay on the social side and try not to venture elsewhere. Generally it's expected that people keep things nice around here, even if only on the surface.

But anyway. You're right. Y'all can bash to your heart's content. I don't have to watch. XD

can i do both sides?? too bad if i cant cause im gonna!!!

for the first few books i really liked eggy she fitted the feel of a two rivers woman and had some humorous parts. I really liked her in the waste too but i got sick of hearing about her pretending to be AS. I loved it when she met her toh.

I also liked her in the rebel camp. the way she manipulated the would be puppeteers.

one of the things i get sick of is her 'discovering' new weaves...let somebody else have a go!!

then she went to the Tower

absolutely ADORED it until she actually BECAME amrilyn the fight against the seanchan was epic!!! but the whole hunting for the black and the messana thing and the gawyn thing?? SUCKED!! the way the sitters were doing it was better then what she did. Their way would have got everyone INCLUDING messana. she screwed it up and heaps got away

She got more arrogant with the stole and the whole seals thing is annoying me she was written like a totally different character and if they pull the " she was compulsed" thing im gonna be peeved!

what i really want to see is her butt heads against Cads. thatll take her down a peg or three and maybe i can like her again.

Lol I agree with dice in that I found here as a good character to begin with...

And then she began turning into the kind of person that I'd avoid because it is impolite to tell people know they're imperious, impetuous, and just irritating .....

While those meanings a a little stronger than I intended, they paint the right picture and fill my insatiable need for alliteration. Lmao =P

I liked your points, Cindy

The discussion about Egwene feels definitely odd without Elan or Kael and unavoidable "lover" or "hater" labels.

What I've discovered is that most people did not really share my view (that Egwene fails to be a believable literary character) and instead decided to dislike her based on her personality, decisions etc. Since I'd been so sure before that my perception of her is so obviously right and anybody who read more than two books in life must agree with me, it was definitely a learning experience. I've understood how vast might the differences in interpretation of the same text be, even when the differing readers are intelligent, well-read etc. Sometimes it depends on literary taste or sensibilities, sometimes on personal experience or idealogical convictions, sometimes I have no idea on what.

E.g. some readers see Egwene as a female counterbalance to Rand, in line with the overall theme of balance in the books and especialy "different but equal and complementary" vision of male-female relations RJ advocated. But imho they fail to see that if that's the case, then the overall composition of the series is inconsistent because Egwene is never acknowledged by any of the characters or by the overall "feel of the story" as Rand's equivalent. The Shadow hardly cares about her, her experiences and ordeals are uncaomparable to Rand's . Her role begins to gain in prominence only in later books of the series. TGS and ToM put her on the same level with Rand and made him talk especially with her about breaking the seals, which made no sense to me. It was his responsibility and her role was the same of everybody else's -help as much as possible.

If in AmoL she is shown as a person whose role in sealing the DO is equal or even larger that the Dragon's, it will feel inconsistent and illogical to me. It would be different if the whole emphasis hadn't be put on the Dragon Reborn from book 1 onwards and instead of the book about messiah, we would be reading the series about a collective ,team effort.

I don't really hate Faile, in fact I like her a little

I also like Elayne.

Egwene is one and only.

To quote from ISAM:

Elayne: Galad only does what's right, no matter who he hurts.

Egwene: Since he only does right, he only hurts evil people, right?

Elayne: No, he mostly hurts good people. And that's what makes him so perfect.

Egwene: Wow. I wish I could be so perfect.

Elayne: Don't worry, you will be.

Buahahaha, I'm vindicated!

I just don't understand why RJ started writing her like he did. She didn't use to be that way and then he changed his style with her and she became this pretentious beeotch.

Since when is Bella the DO? I'm tellin ya the last line in the book is gonna have something to do with Bella wandering off in a meadow into the sunset and then poof, evaporates into the light.

could it have something to do with his personal taste in women? or else his desire to spank the uppity ones? put her on a high horse and smack her down, as it were? lather, rinse, repeat?

It seems to me his desire to spank was pretty nondiscriminatory. Spank who you can kind of thing. Only women though? Ouch.

Egwene, Faile, Berelain, Joline - after a second's thought, probably there were more.

Semirhage, of course

No Cindy, thank you for that

I like egwene, I thought that when Rand came to tell her his plan for breaking the seals she acted as I think she should, she is amyrlin she has a responsibility and most people in the WOT world think Rand is insane anyway, so maybe Egwene has been pulled into the same thinking as the Aes Sedai before her, that they should lock Rand up until the Tarmon Gai'don because he is too dangerous. Even before then one of my favourite parts of the entire series was when she stood up to Elaida, that of course was surpassed by Perrin negating the balefire that was thrown at Egwene, but that's another story.

To be honest she's probably right not trusting Rand even though I believe he's all better, no one else knows that, most people don't even know that Sai'din's been cleansed.

One character that I did not like was Elayne, at least for the part that she thought that she was invincible because of Min's prophecy.

I hope she goes the way of Eladia.

I'm afraid RJ was loosing it when he started writing Egghead this way and the story is going to turn out to be about her saving the world and not Rand.

i half suspect she turns out to be completely evil puppeted. compulsed. compelled, whatever.

it does seem like something really changed about the author midway... like it was a whole different person writing.

I don't see her as being a puppet or compelled. That would give her actions an excuse. I think she's just a typical Tower Aes Sedai times ten.

yeah, it's just there's no reasonable explanation for her character to have developed that way considering her background and training.

but character development wasnt his forte.

character introduction was.

Cindy, paetric, good points!

I very much agree about the change in the way she was written and inconsistency in the series resulting from that.
