Something funny I found

*shrugs* I agree with most of Rick Perry's ad. He's a republican who is trying to win the far right over. I really see nothing wrong with him stating that he wants to cut the left wing bs and bring faith back to our country. The gay's in the military is over the top, but everything else he said is right on. Nothing hypocritical about it. Of course that's just my opinion. Not trying to turn this into a hardcore debate.

I didn't really find the video you found to be that funny. If I can remember right, Rick doesn't say anything about Jesus, he talks about faith and being a christian and getting back to what our country was founded upon.

the irony is that america was NOT founded on christian principles- many of the founding fathers were atheists or agnostic. Besides even if it was founded to be a virtual theocracy, theocracies are bad. end of story. they breed racism sexism, religion-ism, and make life hell for people who do not follow that religion.

Some of it was ok, some of it was meh. The original Rick Perry ad was pretty terrible though imo. I don't mind a politician being religious or even talking about it, but it's quite another thing to twist facts and ignore the Bill of Rights. People can pray and openly celebrate Christmas as much as they want. The right to do so is protected by the First Amendment. What people cannot do, however, is impose their religion on young children through government institutions. That violates the First Amendment.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Religious freedom and Separation of Church and State are two of the founding principles of the United States. Even if you believe that "faith made America strong" you cannot ignore the fact that faith has flourished in America because of freedom of religion. The government cannot favor one religion over another.

i went through G2 in public school when people were doing just that. i was pulled out of class every day, in front of everyone, because i'm a jew, and they were praying in jesus's name. it was... it was what it was.

my mom worked her butt off to send me to private hebrew school after that, and we lived in... crap... because it was more important to her to have me get that education than to have a nice house or nice things.

that's what you do if you want your kids to have a religious education, and to spend their whole day steeped in their own religion.

ok, really gonna stop now, very... upsetting issue.

that is very VERY VERY not allowed in the public education system anymore. No religion is to be given any sort of partiality. Students can get together and pray if they want but.... No. Nonononono
