Rand and Egwene at the FOM

Recommended Posts

I honestly don't see why so many people think that Egwene will "without a doubt" oppose Rand, that it will be a Rand vs. Egwene, 'who sides with who' battle royale.

The two of them haven't even had the chance to discuss anything together. Rand laid out the most basic part (break the seals, reseal the bore) of whatever his full plan is in front of everyone. He didn't have a private meeting to explain the logic of his plan with Egwene. And no matter what you think of Egwene, she's the Amyrlin Seat and the office of the Amyrlin Seat probably deserves some sort of explanation. From the basics of it, Egwene thinks it sounds risky. So what? It does sound risky. But is that the end of the story? I don't think so. I think there is a real good chance that something other than Rand Vs. Egwene will happen. Regardless, why can't we let the characters decide what they think and how they will act, instead of just assuming that they will be at each others throats.

I'm not trying to say that Egwene will or won't oppose Rand, although personally i don't think she will. That would be much too similar to the 100 companions with the male/female split and LTT trying to seal the bore without the full Aes Sedai backing. I certainly hope that this time it will end differently.

And why oh why, on dragonmount of all places, does Egwene, or Aes Sedai for that matter come up as misspelled. Wow, that was incoherent, sorry all, hope some of it makes sense.

Because the spell-checking is being performed by your browser rather than the Dragonmount site. What I suggest you do is right-click on any WOT related words when it misspells them and click Add to Dictionary.

What I want to know is why is it that everyone thinks it is so bad if the seals are broken anyway? I mean in the AoL the Dark One was unsealed for years without it being the end of the world... sure, things might get worse than they are currently, but seriously - chill.

Do we know for sure that the unstained tower breaks and bends knee to Rand has been fulfilled. The reason I ask is because now Mesaana is as good as dead and no more BA in the tower, hence unstained. In LoC, at least one BA Verin knelt to Rand, hence stained. If Nyneave, Cadsuane and Moiraine side with Rand the tower might break again and then Egwene will get all pissed, Aiel

Rand allies: Perrin, Darlin, Illian, probably Cairhein for multiple reasons, Borderlanders, Ituralde

Egwene: Most or all of the tower, possibly Elayne

Spoiler: Murandy and possibly Taimelse saved the tower but tower breaks because Egwene did

Hopefully the Black Tower issue would be resolved before the meeting in the FOM. If Logain manages to wrest power from Taim, I see them siding with Rand.

If Taim is still in control of the Black Tower, what would be the best way for him to spread Chaos? side with Egwene? side with Rand? stay mute and neutral, attack or openly side with the Dark One?

Even though it's unlikely with Rand Sedai I still hope he'll kill Egwene. Perhaps she'll do something Egwene'ish and push him to the point where he just sighs and balefire her with the littlefinger.

OT: In the end I think everyone except Egwene will side with Rand.

Thanks sandoz12, will do!

My wife and I were discussing this topic last night, and although I haven't ventured into the 'Egwene' battlefield, we both actually have no issue with Egwene's character. In fact, I downright like her. Maybe I'm just giving her too much credit, or maybe I'm just hopeful that everyone will get along, but I'm going to step out on a limb and say that she can/will be persuaded by Rand. Like I said before, I guess I just don't want to see another Breaking because everyone can't figure out how to work together....... Yeah, wishful thinking, I know. ;)

He's done it before on their way to Rhuidean(sp?). She asked him about the rightfulness of letting the Aiel "take" all that stuff and also whether or not Aviendha did it too. I think he said(too lazy to look, sorry)that they deserved it and confirmed what Avi did, and then calmly turn the question back on her which allowed her to think about it and answer her own question.

unstained I interpret as it was never conquered by anybody.

The White Tower remained unconquered at the time those first Aes Sedia knelt.

We shouldn´t forget the ogiers. If they are done talking by time of the FOM meeting then I think they will go with Rand.

I know the passage you're talking about, and it's quite possible we'll see something like that at the FOM. Rand's perspective basically says that whenever he's argued with Egwene and she's realized that she's wrong in mid-argument, she flips things around and takes his position, and tells him that he's wool-brained for thinking otherwise, or something along those lines. I expect that we'll see this with regards to the peace that Rand will try to bring; Egwene will initially oppose it, and then after thinking it through she'll be all for it. Subsequently, she'll scold him for not wanting to sign on to the White Tower's peace.

Hopefully he will pull her over his knee and spank her for being obnoxious; Creator knows every single Aes Sedai needs it, but those in charge more than most. Im hoping the 'will know her anger' line refers to the FoM and that he turns around and lets her have it.

I doubt it very much that it will come to sides being drawn.

This is probably the answer. Rand intentionally manipulated Egwene into opposing his plan, so that she'd do the legwork for getting those people that Rand doesn't control into place for him. He's not going to be upset that she's opposing his plan.

Also she wasn't being a control freak Aes Sedai in this situation. Rand pushed her into acting a certain way, and no doubt the pattern was helping.

The amount of absurd anger toward Egwene in this particular thread is scary. Kill her? Spank her? For acting exactly as planned? Some of you guys are psychopaths.

Totally agree. The comment about killing her with balefire was particularly disturbing. IMO it reflects badly on a person for them to have such hatred for a fictional character - it suggests underlying issues far greater than Egwene's annoying habits.

It still amazes me how polarizing Egwene can be. I actually find it difficult to stay in the middle ground.

Good theory Carnivean. I can certainly see that happening.

Oh please. A comment about killing her with balefire was disturbing? It reflects badly to hate a fictional character and it suggests issues? Come on! I can hate her all I want and want to punish her, spank her or want her to be Moridin´s pet. I´m entitled to hate her or love her. Light, I may even write a fanfic were all of that happens. You never see anyone get upset cause someone loves Tam al Thor or think Logain is the greatest. It alright to love a character, that doesn´t get any comments but hate is oh so wrong. Jordan wrote her as he did. Some love her, some love and then hate and then love her and some hate her. Just leave it at that. But don´t go around calling those that don´t like her psychopaths. That´s just lame...

I didn't call people that don't like her psychopaths. I called people that, completely unprovoked by rational evidence, want to kill or humiliate or punish her psychopaths. And I stand by it. Calling for Rand to balefire Egwene is ludicrous and horrifying.

Thank you. Good to know that I wasn't alone feeling that way.

while balefire is an very extreme responce, most people have very valid reasons for wanting egwene to fall off her high horse

Perhaps. But the way they express it is hardly valid. It often comes across as real hatred which to me says more about them rather than Egwene.

I don't like Politician X's policy, where's my fissionable material, it's dirty bomb time.

Are you completely unable to read what I said in the post you quoted? The extremeness is exactly the problem.

Meh, if people don't like a character, they may want it removed. If killing off the character is a sure way of doing it (I don't think Egwene should be killed off, though I abhor the character) then really it's a pretty valid thought. It doesn't make a reader a psychopath for wanting it so.
