If you have looked at "Original vs. Cover", you will notice I am using previous songs posted. This is because I am gearing up for my next set of accountancy exams with the added bonus of having to move from my current rented accommodation. The songs that I am repeating are those that ended in a tie so we can hopefully get a result! So, if you fancy hosting "Tune or No Tune" during the next 6 to 8 weeks, just drop me a PM and I will get you all set up!

"Tune or No Tune" is a simple, weekly thread hosted by the Band of the Red Hand Social Group. All you need to do is decide whether the song I have chosen is a TUNE (i.e. you love it) or a NO TUNE (i.e. you hate it). Quite simple, really!

Next up is Mirror Mirror by Blind Guardian, which at the start of June 2008, ended up as a 4-4 draw. Sadly, DM has since eaten the thread as I cannot find it anywhere on the site. Thankfully, I have a copy of what I posted on our wiki site!

I have to blame an old Bander for getting me into Blind Guardian - Faile1987. And I'm so glad she did! I've been a big fan since that day about 2 years ago. They have been classified under Speed Metal and Power Metal, and they also like to go for that epic feel. And they reached their height of epicness on the album, Nightfall in Middle Earth, which is based on J. R. R. Tolkien's The Silmarillion. And yes, Lord of the Rings is a massive influence on Blind Guardian. They tried to get their music as part of the film trilogy, but sadly failed. However, I believe that they plan to release their work for that project this year.

I could have picked any song of their Nightfall in Middle Earth album, but Mirror Mirror ranks as one of my favourite songs. I love their ability to have speedy guitar rifts with gruff vocals that just wants me to nod along to. The song also has a catchy chorus, and fits perfectly in the album as Blind Guardian show their ability to tell a story in a variety of methods. The fact I love Blind Guardian so much (and I really want to see them live at some stage) makes this, in my eyes, a massive TUNE.

Not much has changed since June 2008. I am still a huge fan of Blind Guardian, and managed to see them live in London in September 2010. They have released two songs relating to the Wheel of Time series on their latest album. And I am still giving Mirror Mirror the vote of TUNE.
