Corki
"Tune or No Tune" continues with two threads this week. I continue my policy of playing catch up for the large chunks of 2010 that I missed. As a result, there will be two "Tune or No Tune" threads up this week. "Tune or No Tune" is a simple, weekly thread hosted by the Band of the Red Hand Social Group. All you need to do is decide whether the song I have chosen is a TUNE (i.e. you love it) or a NO TUNE (i.e. you hate it). Quite simple, really! We have had 6 songs up for the vote in "Tune or No Tune". Time for a quick summary of the results. We have had 4 Tunes (Someone Like You by Adele, Down Under by Men at Work, Heart by Pet Shop Boys and Beautiful Day by U2), and two No Tunes (Friday by Rebecca Black and On The Floor by Jennifer Lopez featuring Pitbull). Next up are the highly influential New York hip hop group, the Wu-Tang Clan. The group have recently announced they are touring again, and will be featuring at this year's Glastonbury. Gravel Pit is the group's most successful single and comes from The W album. It is the group's only top 40 hit in the UK chart, peaking at number 6 in 2001, which is also the highest placing for the song. It did not make the US Billboard top 100. Other countries it charted in include Australia, Belgium and Switzerland. The song uses two samples. The trumpet introduction comes from It's a Man's Man's Man's World by James Brown. The beat for the track was sampled from Antoine Duhamel's soundtrack to a French TV miniseries entitled Belphegor. The chorus of the song, "Back, back and forth and forth...", is taken from the funk group Cameo's song Back And Forth. The hook of the song, "Check out my gravel pit...", is sung by Paulissa Morgan. This tends not to be a style of music that I like. But there just happens to be something about this song I like. Therefore I give Gravel Pit by the Wu-Tang Clan the vote of TUNE! For those of you who haven't heard the piece, here is a link to YouTube. The poll closes in a week's time, which is Monday 25th April 2011. So make sure you vote now before the time for the latest "Tune or No Tune" poll finishes! Also, if you want to suggest a tune for "Tune or No Tune", do not hesitate to drop me a PM. Corki
Banders, Please Note: Voting in "Tune or No Tune" threads counts towards posting in an activity thread for points gained through the roll call. However, in order for that to qualify, you need to post that you voted. Otherwise you won't get the recognition or the promotion points via the roll call.
