I was sitting there reading the dragon reborn while my girlfriend waas watching tv when i suddenly starting just cracking up and some stupid thing Mat said after Egewne insulted him. My grifriend just stared at me blankly and i was like what its funny! I read it too and she didnt undstand it at all. I said you would jjust have to know who mat is. Shes like on and you know this Mat guy?

Yeah its cheezey but this book really connects you to the characters throught the novels its great i love it!

Well, you're definitely in the right place!

Anyway, I agree with you about being able to really connect with the characters. It's one of the benefits of having a writer who's incredibly descriptive, you usually get very richly imagined people.

Indeed what RJ had was an ability to make you love or hate most of his characters, there is very few I am "meh?" about, great story aside characterization kept me hooked all these years - I NEED to see what happens to who!

yeah, same. Don't think I've had mixed feelings about anyone really. The bit I laughed hardest at was Mat's letter in ToM(i think?) to Elayne. I just found it hilarious

The WOT is my most favorite series of books ever written. Thats saying a lot for me, because in the last 30 years, I have read almost one thousand novels. One of the reasons I enjoy WOT as much as I do is the great sense of humor that RJ has written into his books with the way that the characters interact with one another.

haha i remember reading ToM and mat's letter on the train and couldnt help and laughed and everyone looked at me and was like "crazy guy" :p

I was on the plane and started crying from laughing so hard about the "do you know how hard it is to bury a stand of oak trees?" and my girlfriend looked at me like I was insane. No matter how much I explained the joke, she just shook her head... :(

Oh yes! I've done all this too - cried at the crying bits, laughed out loud at the funnies... People looking at me like I need to be locked up...

:-)

My husband is used to it, so at least I don't get the "what?" look from him any more!

LOL

I love the series but it's difficult to find them in Nigeria. Since 1999 when I started reading, I've found nine books so far. I just finished Book Nine last February. Can someone help me?

I agree. But I think Mat's the best thing since sliced bread anyway!

Even in loss he's gracious. The coolest cat by far!

No, no, he's better than sliced bread!!!

And I agree, the books make you laugh, cry, and come back for more...and more...and more....
