Tune or No Tune - Gold by Spandau Ballet

"Tune or No Tune" continues to have 2 threads posted a week as I try to play catch up. Having put up the concluding "Tune or No Tune" for January's theme, we are heading straight back to our 1980s theme for February.

 

"Tune or No Tune" is a simple, weekly thread hosted by the Band of the Red Hand Social Group. All you need to do is decide whether the song I have chosen is a TUNE (i.e. you love it) or a NO TUNE (i.e. you hate it). Quite simple, really!

 

Last week saw our first two "Tune or No Tune" threads for the 1980s. Both Pour Some Sugar On Me by Def Leppard and Walk This Way by Run-D.M.C. ended up with the vote of "Tune". I also posted a link to Top 100 list by VH1, and the next song didn't even make that list. I have nominated them to appear on our "It's a Knockout" contest since I feel they should challenge in the thread!

 

Our next song for "Tune or No Tune" is Gold, the second biggest single released by Spandau Ballet. Formed in 1979, the music of Spandau Ballet was a mix of synthpop, new wave and pop rock. True was their biggest selling single, and was released in 1983. Shortly after the release of True came Gold, their second biggest selling single. The group performed until 1990, when they split up; however, amongst much speculation, in 2009, the group reformed.

 

Coming from the group's third album True, Gold reached number 2 on the UK chart and number 29 on the US Billboard. It was held off the top spot in the UK by KC and the Sunshine Band's Give It Up.

 

A true classic from the early 1980s. Like Africa by Toto, I really do not understand why it isn't on VH1's list. No matter what, I give Gold by Spandau Ballet the vote of TUNE!
