February 2011 Theme/Plan - Music from the 1980s

Over the festive period, I decided the Band would use February 2011 as a time to look at the highs and lows of music from the 1980s.

The Band's usually activities (i.e. Tune or No Tune, It's A Knockout, Original vs. Cover) will run and try to focus on songs from this period.

I am open to ideas on other activities to cover this period. So, if you have an idea, feel free to share it here and we shall see what we can do.

The plan is to use only their work from the 1980s. But if a discussion arises over how an artist's music changed from the 1970s to the 1980s (and beyond), that is fine. That is just an example.

But we shall be focusing on the 1980s mainly.

Being an accountant is much better once your done with your studies... Ok not much better but alot more organized... ok not really that either... umm you know what I'm not really sure why I do this...

So we can hit the Aerosmith in the 80's but ignore the work leading up to the 1980's unless it is to point out or discuss a point about the product of the 80's result. Do I have it about right?

For a former professional musician, I am kind of embarrassed to day I will have to do some research on this before adding my own commentary for most of what will be discussed! Apart from what I heard on the bus in the mid-late 90s, I grew up fairly musically illiterate as the local Christian station was the only one my parents listened to... the only exceptions (at least prior to the mid-90s) are songs that have made their way to pep band for basketball games!

Came across this image while thinking about 80's Music. The launch of MTV was a defining moment and Video became an intregal part of the music at this point so...

Maybe we could have a Knockout Bracket of the best/worst Videos of the 80's? (I think best has been done).

Yeah I think a an MTV focus would be great.

Most people now days don't even know all MTV used to show were videos. Just Vids no shows no Real crap just vids with VJ's. I haven't seen a video on MTV in years. I don't know if they still show them. Last time I looked they had on a SNL marathon.... It's just sad.
