The Gholam,

Not sure why it didn't die right away. Perhaps the gateway needs to close first? But it is definitely shadowspawn. It is mentioned a few times that it, along with five others, were created by Aginor to be channeller assassins, and that even the forsaken were uncomfortable around them.

The most dangerous creature in the series, aside from Shadar Haran and Fain.

The T-1000 of WOT.

I do think the True Power would have killed it or a massive amount of OP directed at it (Choden Khal type). As stated, Elayne's replicas would be overwhelmed given a strong weave, no doubt Mat medallion has a limit, everything does, with the possible exception of cuendillar (even that breaks).

=simo Is the Gholam, shadowsporn? if so how is it that he past through the skimming Gateway when shadowsporn die immediately if they pass through a gateway?

Read in another thread that BS said it was sophisticated enough to pass through a gateway.

sophisticated enough? hmmmm, or maybe it truly can't die.

Scary....

Definitely Shadowspawn. Probably created by Aginor since he was the one creating the Trollocs. Kinda think that the fact he was to drink blood is to replenish his body parts. Probably made without a nervous system so he wouldnt be able to feel pain. Most likely lives forever since i dont think he has any actual working parts.

The quote by BS about the gholam that someone mentioned above is more a paraphrase by "Jonathan B." but here's what it says:

"We discussed the gholam, if someone had pushed it through a gateway, would it have just died? Brandon said that gholam CAN go THROUGH gateways (from one place to another). He mentioned that this was the first time he had shared this information. Gholam are Shadowspawn of a more perfected kind. It would have been way too easy to kill if you just needed to shove it through a gateway (to another place). However, falling through the Skimming gateway for a few minutes did kill the gholam and it is really dead and it's not going to show up again."

This is speculation, but I'd say the complexity that someone earlier in the thread mention and the higher degree of "perfection" mentioned in the quote above have a strong connection to the simple fact that the gholam are immune to the One Power and normal gateways are constructed by the OP.

While I'm not one to criticize someone's spelling, being careless about it myself...shadowsPORN?

lol. I had a hard time even getting to the point of the post. I had the most horrifying images of mating Trollocs in my head. :narg:

Kinky.

Im sorry , i dont quite get this...so what your saying is, and what i assume RJ and BS is saying, anything that the Gholam traverses through with the One Power, will kill it?...my main question is, why cant shadowspawn and the Gholam i guess, travel through gateways..?

Shadowspawn are constructs, and no construct can travel through a gateway, or at least none of the more primitive ones, including the nym. Aginor simply worked at it until he made one that was capable of doing so.

More specifically, not all Shadowspawn are constructs. Darkhounds and Gray Men are not, for example. It seems likely that the gholam started out human.

No, that's the opposite of what I am saying and the quote is stating. The Gholam can travel through gateways. As Torn Shadow mentioned, Shadowspawn are constructs so they can't travel through gateways although the Gholam seems to be an exception.

Yeah the jist of every Q&A I have seen is that Gholam's are much more sophisticated than Trolloc's or Fade's and can indeed travel through a gateway.

You also have to remember that that the information that Shadowspawn can't survive a gateway was delivered by a character in the book. In this case, Rand through LTT's memories and such info is only what he believes and may not necessarily be 100% accurate or complete.

It was also stated that a Gholam can die through starvation as previously mentioned and the only reason this one survived was because who was most likely Sammy found him/it in a stasis box.

I believe some people are getting confused because they mistakenly believe that it died from going through the skimming gateway when in fact it was simply pushed into the void to fall endlessly until it dies of starvation.

Should also be noted from those Q&A's that there are two ways to destroy Cuendillar. The "True" power is one and the other (said with a devious grin) has yet to be revealed.

It was given by RJ as well, and he said that (as I said above), more specifically, constructs can't use gateways. Most Shadowspawn (like Trollocs and Fades) are constructs. Gray Men and Darkhounds are not, and presumably gholam are not either.

I believe some people are getting confused because they mistakenly believe that it died from going through the skimming gateway when in fact it was simply pushed into the void to fall endlessly until it dies of starvation.

The original confusion was because it obviously did not die when it went through.

Since Mat's medallion burned the gholam and it did fell it it can feel pain. Since the medallion absorbs the op I'd say that the gholam is pulsing with the power and the medallion began pulling that power away.
