Hello all! I am a long time lurker, first time poster. I thought with all of the activity for ToM (this is the first book that I've actually been around here for) that I should at least introduce myself.

 

I've been reading the series since I was 10 years old. My dad was reading it at the time and I think he gave it to me:

 

a) to shut me up :)

and

b) to have someone to talk about it with

 

Since then, I've read and reread the series many times (I think this past time was number 14); the characters feel like old friends. I have always loved reading, but it was Wheel of Time that really opened up my eyes and my world - I even met my fiance through a WoT rp site.

 

Anywho, now that I sound crazy and more than a little obsessed (but I'm in good company, right?), I'll wrap up this little post.

 

I just wanted to say hello to everyone, and that I'm craving ToM as well!

Emily, I'm in the same boat as you. I've been around DM for FOREVER, but I just set up my profile and whatnot and decided to join the community for real in the spirit of ToM and the new site launch. Sorry to say that my dad didn't give me the books (although I did start reading them at about the same age), but I've introduced plenty of friends to it the way your dad did to you... to have someone to talk with about WoT lol. Anyway welcome to the forums... sounds funny coming from me but w/e. I hope you're lucky enough to have a signing event nearby that you can make it to for ToM.

P.S. you and your fiancee are lucky to have this in common... my girlfriend won't talk with me about the books or even give them a chance lol (even after 5 years of trying to get her to), but she lets me indulge in them without complaining too much so it's all good.

I do have to say that it was really nice having my dad give them to me, it kind of forged a bond between the two of us. One that was probably needed also, since I only saw him at most twice a month. We have spent a lot of time since talking about WoT and other fantasy series - passing off suggestions to each other.

 

It is nice to be able to talk to my fiance about it, though he's not nearly as 'into' it as I am. For instance, he hasn't even read tGS yet. He claims after waiting for so long that he's just going to reread the series after ToM comes out in preparation for aMoL. That baffles me. *laughs* I just read them all over again for every book anyway.

So glad to have you here at DM. That's so cool you met your partner on a WoT RP site! I met mine on a blind date and he is not much of a reader - though he has been getting regular doses of WoT over the last few months as i'm doing my re-read by audiobook LOL

RP is alive and well on DM Just scroll down the forum index until you see the Welcome Inn board - all your questions can be answered there. We have lots of different options you can be any type of character from WoT that you like.

 

If you have any questions after checking out the Welcome Inn just post here - i will come back and check this thread. When PMs come back up feel free to PM me about anything you need.
