A simple matter of logic. Because they can flee with this book. And it seems it's a ter'angreal, from Haman and Loial's mother discussion in KoD. But I don't think it's for going to their homeland. Maybe just a portable portal stone...

 

What is interesting is that it is not something like the Talisman of Growing. It's called a book. Why make something that translate people from one point to another a book? Could paged of this book be related to the multiple worlds we hear about?

 

And has it already been used? That could explain some things... and opeb possibilities for Tarmon Gai'don.
