The book comes out and says it albeit indirectly. Marion in some tales is accounted to be an incredible archer, is adventurous woman and when she first Robin Hood Doesnt like him.

Brigitte says from her own mouth that she never likes Gaidal when she first meets him, obviously its known she is an incredible archer. But she comes out and says her name was Maerion once a LONG LONG time ago, first age perhaps?

I don't really know enough about Robin Hood to say yea or nay. I personally think Jordan drew some of his heroes from our lore and even history.

For example, there are plenty of parallels between Alexander the Great and Artur Hawkwing.

There are dozens of parallels with our myths & legends in the series.  I agree with your assertation of the Robin/Marion - Cain/Birgitte parallel.  Theatrically speaking, the Ridley Scott "Robin Hood" with Russell Crowe will show Marion as much more of a warrior than a typical noblewoman...

Well, Maid Marion didn't actually enter into the Robin Hood story until the 16th Century and then it was because an author of the time wanted to give him a virginal and pure maiden to pine over.  It wasn't until the late 20th Century that the character had any use beyond getting captured by bad guys so that Robin Hood could rescue her and was given the ability to handle herself in a fight.

Yes and no.

Yes for the connection in the 1500s. No to her being able to handle herself being a twentieth century invention. That much was in the 17th century English ballad Robin Hood and Maid Marian, which depicted her as a skilled fighter.

  • 3 weeks later...

Birgitte herself says that she was known by many names.  Marrion could be one life she lived in one Age.  Could also be why Gaidal is known to be less-than-handsome.  Medival England countryside can produce some less-than-handsome men
