The Last Battle - The Last Siege of Tar Valon

Pherno watched in rage as large sections of the wall crumbled, seemingly on their own. Dovien was using the True Power! How DARE he! Pherno had commanded that the true power was used only on his direct command! Well, Dovien would psay for his insubordination, oh, yes, he would pay.

Trollocs were streaming through the gaping gaps in the wall, some made by Pherno, and more were streaming down the stairs from the wall. The metaphorical noose was tightening fiercly, and the lights shattered forces were retreating to the tower or holding out in defensible buildings. The light soldiers retreat was made easier by the trollocs looting. Burning buildings, murdering, slaughtering the citizens that had refused to take refuge in the white tower, the trollocs spread slowly through the city from he edges like a slow-spreading stain of ink.

Fireballs, lightning, deathgates, blossoms of fire, and massive gales of wind lashed at the advancing shadowspawn and darkfriends, but there were too many.

Done with observing, Pherno drew as much as he could hold, the combined power of vora's sa'angreal, his black sword angreal, 72 powerful dreadlords (some with angreal), and his own considerable power, and unleashed it. Jets of fire appeared at his hands and feet, and he shot up in the air. Holding out both his arms, a massive ball of roiling, orange flames began forming a few feet in front of him. After a few seconds, he was ready, and, raising his arms above his head in a grand gesture, Pherno threw the massive fireball at the sacred Ogier grove.

The massive, house-sized fireball streaked across the city, leaving a burning tail of flames behind it, and hit the centre of the grove. The fireball exploded in a blinding flash of light, and the whole grove was engulfed in flames. Laughing maniacally, he watched in pleasure as the grove burned and crumbled.

Pointing at a group of light soldiers (well, they seemed like light soldiers, anyway) a thick bar of balefire shot from his hand and incinerated them. Moving on to another one, he burned more soldiers out of the pattern, and more, and more. He kept killing more and more, and only stopped once he saw the trollocs reach the white tower.

OOC: I hate to say it, but i think we should wait for arani. She hasn't posted in a while, and we have moved ahead in the story heaps.

Either today or tommorow will be my last post for at least 12 days, as im going on holiday). Dont wait for me, keep posting, but please dont finish the siege without me.

GrandpaG stared up at what was once the magnificent White Tower.  It now looked more like a pile of carefully stacked black stones waiting to topple.  "What a pity.", he muttered to himself as he lowered his eyes to the rubble beneath his feet and sadly shook his head.  He could remember recently visiting here when there wasn't so much as a speck of dust to be found.  This surely must be the end.

When the house sized fireball hit the Ogier grove,he knew that Pherno was behind it.Nobody else could draw such power and left unharmed.Second one followed the first only this time the ball hit the invisible obstacle that protected the Tower walls. He continued his destroying of the City walls. There was much more Trollcs that needed entrance in the city.Sudddenly, mass of deathgates began opening and closing in blink of an eye.Trollocs died in thousands, soon they will be too weak to be threat. He channeled the True Power in a new weave that he developed.Deathgates vanished leaving the free pass. They must hold on just one more day and a new reinforcements will arrive from the South where the Light forces were destroyed.Approximately 700 000 Trollocs will arrive. He channeled the True Power toward the wall, trying to destroy the obstacle.

Pherno was getting desperate; he wanted to end this before the reinforcements arrived tommorow morning. Anything less would soil his reputation. flying towards the white tower, throwing massive blasts of fire at the massive wall of air and spiit stopping the trollocs from reaching the white tower. The lights remaining troops, less than ten thousand warriors and a few thousand channelers, were in the tower, preparing for a last stand.

Pherno gathered his power, and a massive beam of pure fire shot out of his outstretched arms, hitting the massive air/spirit shield. The shield held for a few moments, but soon it began cracking. Seconds later, the massive wall shattered, and the trollocs charged towards the white tower.

...................

Lupin threw more zombies into the fray, and trollocs followed them. deathgates and fireballs ripped through the trolloc ranks, killing thousands as they swarmed towards the tower itself. Soon, the tower would fall, soon.

..............

Garda Harilon beheaded a trolloc with a sweep of his sword and stabbed another with ease. but there were so many! The Blademaster gracefully cut off a darkfriend's arm and impaled him through the chest. Hack, slash, thrust, Garda slew trolloc after trolloc after darkfriend. he must have killed dozens, but it was too much. Retreating back to the tower itself, he watched as the shadowspawn overran the once-beautiful tower grounds, and he got through the great doorway just before it shut.

.................

Rand cut down another trolloc armoured in black with his sword and threw a few fireballs at another. The fireballs all but bounced off, and rand resorted to beheading the troublesome beast. He had arrived at shayol ghul the previous day, and had found hundreds of dreadlords and thousands of these black-armoured trollocs and those massive blight-mutants. His force, consisting primarily of channelers, perrins wolves and mats band, had suffered heavy losses at the hands of the power-resistant creatures and shadowspawn. they had finally given up and pulled back to wait for the morning. now that the morning had arrived, rand army was finally beating the shadowspawn army.

Rand saw a gaping cavern in front of him, and he knew that it lead to the pit of dhoom. Bracing himself, Rand entered the cavern, to face the Dark One.

OOC: that will be my last post for the next 12 days or so, so dont finish this without me, please. And you should probably wait for arani, we dont want her to be left out.

when the Pherno destroyed the shield that protected the white tower the Aes Sedai were panicked. That was theirs last line of defence.Instead of panicking the Young Amyrlin started walking from one sister to another telling them something that he could not hear from the noise of the battle in the air. After she passed each sister seemed more calmed and started channeling again.Soon huge hammers of the air begun killing the Trollocs that advanced toward the tower. In one moments three enormous pillars of fire 8 feet tall appeared in the middle of advancing Trolloc army.Moment later he recognized the flows. He created the shield around them on the top of tower protecting them from the heat blast that will follow.

Pillars exploded, killing the mass of trollocs and some dreadlords that were with them.Shock weaves and the heat that followed the explosion killed the dreadlords that were coming from the surrounding streets. He didn't knew who created this massive weapon until he saw Nynaeve Sedai riding through the Trolloc army toward them. For some reason they flew from her when she got close.Nobody dared to attack her."Malkier battle queen",he heard someone saying with a pride in the voice. He turned around and faced Malkieri Aes Sedai, one of the few in tower.

Still he didn't understood how she managed to do something like that.Even with her angreals she wasn't powerful enough. Then he understood.Woman was walking in front of her horse. He recognized that face.It was Lanfear. He begun preparing the weaves  for a death web,but the Amyrlin stopped him.

"She is a prisoner, capture by the A'dam, she is not a threat to us."

He wanted to ask her how she managed to capture Lanfear, but she turned around and begun ordering for the Aes Sedai to open the gates of tower to let the Nynaeve Sedai in.

OOC: Lanfear is dead, remember? She is Cyndane now. Oh well, suspend disbelief, i guess.  :)

Pherno flew across the devastated field of ash and body bits that had been over a thousand trollocs and dozens of dreadlords. Fools, they deserved death. But this couldn't keep up, he needed to do something, fast. He needed to deal with that upstart wielding Callandor. Soaring towards the top of the tower, Pherno dodged the fireballs and lightning flung at him by channelers on the tower roof, and landed with a blast of flame near the edge of the roof.

Sending contemptuous blasts of flame at the light channelers around him, and they fell back, retreating behind a man in a black cloak wielding a shining sword. The Tsorovan M'hael.

Drawing his shining black sword, he flung a storm of fiery tentacles at the powerful light channeler.

Stepping through the gateway, Arvandos shivered. It wasn't the scorched White Tower to the East that bothered him, but the massive burning pile of rubble rising where he quite clearly remembered Dragonmount just weeks earlier. He was forced out of his shock by the Dragons moving through the gateway behind him and had little choice but to move away. Stabbing the Red Hand into the hilltop, he pulled out his looking glass. Peering through it, the two miles seemed more like two hundred spans. He might have missed the horde of trollocs if he were blind, but there was little doubt that the mass of humanoids surrounding the walls were they.

He had command of just over two hundred of these Dragons, but then, that wouldn't matter much soon. Loyalty was something he took to heart, and he had decided long ago which side his loyalty lay on. Three days ago he had been ordered to prepare to move via gateway and assist at Tar Valon. Two days ago he had been ordered to isolate his dragons and let the Great Lord's armies take them for use against the Tower. He didn't know which of the Chosen had given the order, but it was quite obvious that they had known about his orders before he had. The Asha'man walked back to the Borderland side, closing the gateway just as the last Dragon made it through.

Lining up the Dragons at the hilltop took several minutes, but when they were readied a hush fell over everyone. The finder put down his looking glass and lowered the strange staff he used to measure the wind. Another minute passed in silence, a few adjustments made. Finally, the odd taraboner woman looked at him and nodded. There was nothing else to do but nod back.

The noise was deafening, by the time he could see straight the dragons had been rolled down out of sight behind the hilltop. Turning, he could barely make out the the devastation they caused. He grabbed the Red Hand and tossed it downhill to the finder. He really ought to have moved behind the dragons. He would remember that in five minutes when they repeated their routine, but for now he walked down the hill laughing as he caught sight of a shadowspawn detachment turn towards his location.

OOC: This is progressing beside the last few posts, the attack landing just seconds after Blackhoof's post. I'm not trying to push Arani Sedai out of it. Also, hello.

(OOC:  Is Pherno mad, attacking Logain, who is the most powerful light channeler after the Dragon?  And who wields Callandor, backed by a circle of 72?  And who is actually far more skilled than most living save the Forsaken?  I've thrown Pherno back here and reconstructed the weaves defending the Tower itself.  The city is lost, but the White Tower is now protected in a shield, with all the Angreal, Sa'Angreal that can be used.  You will take several hours to break it.  RP what you will be doing for those several hours, while the White Tower recuperates.  When the shield falls, I will start the battle.)

Silviana had given the order to fall back to the White Tower, at the centre of the city, still standing, pristine and whole.  Logain had gripped Callandor, and he led a circle of 72, aided by all the Angreal and Sa'Angreal they could find, whether male or female attuned, flinging off Pherno first, of course.  A powerful shield of Air was erected that would take several hours to break down, even tied off.  For the weave was reversed and could not be seen.  A handy trick that Egwene had brought before she had left once more.  Cyndane had broken under consistant effort via those who were once Sul'dam, and she was now consistantly giving out information that was handy, regarding the One Power.

The Light still had 8000 channelers left.  3000 had fallen in the massacre today.  The only consolation was that 500 of the opposition dreadlords had died in the process.

Around them were deafening sounds as Dragons crashed throughout the city, destroying it.  Fortunately for the Light, the Dragons killed more trollocs than citizens, as most of them had been evacuated to the Tower.  There were only a few dozen citizens who could not make it before the shields were raised, and it would take at least a day's worth of efforts to break it down.  Pherno was swirling around, trying to look for an opening in the shield.  But his blasts were deflected with contemptuous ease by the shield itself, shimmering strongly in the air.  Multitudes of lightning and wind were being blasted at it, all deflected.

The shield would not last forever however, and a hasty meeting had been in session for the last hour or so.

Several ideas were being thrown about, and finally, after another two hours of debate, it was decided that, among the more than hundred circles possible, 30 would guard the top of the White Tower, aided by the angreal in the White Tower.  40 would man the levels of the White Tower, to ensure that they would not break through the middle, and the rest to defend the lower levels.

Moral was not high, but they knew that this would be their last stand.  Death awaited all who had resisted.  But it was higher than it had been previously, as much knowledge had been gained within the last hour or so.  Sharing between Aes Sedai and Asha'man, linked in circles, had increased it further.

So they split again, forming circles of 72 and 71.  30 circles remained in the entrance hall, as they waited for the shield to crack.

Black lightning's flew when Callandor countered the attack from Pherno's black angreal sword. He was skilled with the sword but not like Pherno who was Blade Master. But his hatred toward him was all that mattered. He will have his revenge. He began channeling like newer before.Fire serpents appeared from callandor, trying to reach Pherno,to wrap apound him and kill him instantly but he was skilled, not an easy target.Cylinder of air wrapped around Pherno protecting him from the attack. He attacked using the Callandor as an ordinary sword. He used the sword form known as Lions from the mountains. It met the Serpents attack, and in the moment they've danced deadly dance.Attacking and retreating equally.

"Stay back",he ordered to Young Asha'man who tried to attack Pherno. This was his fight,he owed it to his wife and daughter. And beside young fool would end up killed by this Serpent of a man.

He weaved the ice spears to stab Pherno, but they disappeared before they could do any harm to him.He was aware of the battle moving form the Tower and massive shield that was created to protect the tower, but his eyes were on Pherno. One mistake, and he will be dead. The Pherno knew that and he waited.Instead of giving him a chance,he wielded Lightning to destroy the cylinder that protected him.

In a moment, lightning begun to struck the shield harder, and he could saw on Pherno's face that he had trouble holding it whole and fighting in the same time.Even with his sword angreal, using huge amounts of the Power was exhausting even for Pherno. He wasn't in a good shape himself. He used huge amounts of the power earlier today and that had it's price. No matter. He will die if his death was the thing that will revenge his family.

Just when he prepared to use balefire,Fireballs came down from the sky striking the ground around Pherno.

"We will meet again foll",the dark voice said to him almost laughing."Next time you would not be so lucky".With that words Pherno stepped through gateway before he even managed to attack.

He turned around, ready to kill the Person that involved in his fight, and he almost hit the Nynaeve Sedai. She was the one who involved.Cyndane was standing behind her, like a obedient servant. Then he noticed cou'rosava around Nynaeve's neck.

So that is how she kept Cyndane obedient. No a'dam in the world would stop Cyndane to kill them all,but this was something else.

we will talk later,Nynaeve said to him flatly, denying to accept that he was ready to kill her on the spot.Bloody Aes Sedai, she was worst of them all.

No matter,he will have his revenge.

Dovien was angry, his attacks on the Shield that protected the Tower were useless.Even the True Power could not destroy it.He wondered where Pherno was.Somewhere far, because he would be here trying to have his head off from his shoulders. No matter, there was still work to do.The Tower will fall eventually, and before that he will destroy the Tar Valon,in front of the Eyes of the Aes Sedai. The Great LOrd will be pleased when he comes with the reports of the fall of Tar Valon. Then he will be named as Nae'blis.Demandred came to him but he did not kneel before him.He was equal to him in the strenght in Power, maybe more stronger and with the True Power on his disposal he was safe for now.You will use your power to attack the Tower not for playing around,he said to him.His voice was dark, and Dovien knew why.

It was the punishment for disobeying the Great Lords orders that brought Demandred here.He Tried to kill Rand al' Thor when the battle begun in Shayol Ghul.He failed and was alomoust killed by al' Thor but he was sawed by the Greta Lord and sent here to help destroy the witches

"Don't hit the bloody Tower! Finder, explain yourself," Arvandos yelled, ears still ringing. The Dragons were quiet on their own, but with two-hundred closely gathered behind him, the pressure pushed him forward every volley. For atleast the third time, he reminded himself to stay behind the Dragons. On that last volley they had been forced to aim within the walls, but some of the shots had spun way off target shortly after passing the wall. Taking his eyes of the Tower he peered into the woods behind him. The shadowspawn detachment had done very good. Had he not been watching them, he doubted he would have been able to spot them as four fists swarmed through the woods behind the Dragons.

The Finder jogged back up to where he was standing below the crest. "I'm no Asha'man, Banner-Captain, but I'd say they're using so much of the power over there that the wind is blowing in every direction." This close, the man's eyes constantly slid down to the stub where Arvandos' right hand had been just a few years earlier. Or maybe it was the heavy wrist-bow some scholar of sorts had nearly forced on him in Cairhien. The thing worked well enough, and after a few adjustments for his handless-ness, it was nearly impossible for him to lose a fist fight.

"Fair enough, get everyone ready, we're moving closer. Lord Mat may not be with us, but I reckon we'll just have to make some luck for ourselves." The tall man nodded nervously and ran back down to Aludra, where he immediately began talking in a hushed voice. Aludra shot him glances that weren't far from glares several times, but during her last glance she nodded. He was startled when she turned and began yelling orders. This was the first time he had seen her speak, and he had been among the group sent to Altara.

Walking down the hill to her side, he waited just seconds before the Trollocs swarmed out from the woods just five hundred paces away. Raising his voice to be heard over the men preparing the Dragons he called out an order he had only used twice before, "About turn and steady!" All along the row of Dragons, four of the five men to each dragon drew a loaded crossbow latched to the side, "On mark!" Seconds passed as the trollocs closed the distance, "Loose!" At a hundred and fifty paces, four hundred trollocs met eight hundred heavy crossbow bolts.

Avandros was not surprised when none stood back up. The four myrddraal at the head had been nearly torn to ribbons. Most of the trollocs didn't even twitch. Rewinding his wrist-bow, Avandros walked calmly down the slope. He stopped in front of the closest myrddraal, most definitely dead, even for a halfman. As he turned it over the motionless myrddraal he noticed the bright blue bolt that stuck out nearly two inches from the back of its skull. Smiling, he whispered, "Fighting for the Shadow isn't worth a hand, I'd say I'm doing just fine without."

OOC: I had this planned out before Arani Sedai's post since the Light seemed in a tight spot, but with 8,000 channelers left I could've gone either way I guess.

OOC: Not meaning to sound rude, but could you please stop making my character say stuff. Hes my guy, and i dont make your guy say stuff, so stop, please. Also, have i misinterpreted, or did you say that Pherno was a Blademaster? Or were you talking about your guy? I dont mind so much, but please stop modifying my character without my permission. Btw Arani, yes, Pherno IS mad, and hes about toe-to-toe with Orbein at this point, because Pherno has everything Orbein has plus his own sword angreal. Plus, Logain is nowhere near as good as a forsaken. Hes not even more powerful than any of them, hes above-average, but not massively so.

IC: Pherno was outraged. How dare that Aes Sedai minx interrupt his duel with Orbein! It was HIS duel! Flying around the shield, Pherno probed for weaknesses with blasts of flame, but found none. It was a big, powerful shield. Damnit!

Giving up, Pherno landed and began rallying the shadowspawn. Most of the surviving 100'000 were hiding behind buildings to escape the volleys of dragons eggs from a nearby hilltop. Explosions and fire ripped through whole buildings, devastating thousands of trollocs and darkfriends. Pherno needed to do something about that. But, by the Shadow, he was tired. He'd been channeling almost non-stop for hours, and it was taking its toll on the maniacal dreadlord.

Well, he had the strength to do this, at least. As long as it was quick. Soaring into the air, he flew towards the serried ranks of dragons and crossbowmen on a hill overlooking Tar Valon. Well, overlooking the ruins of it, anyway. The crossbowmen saw him and within seconds, a storm of black bolts arced towards him. Instead of deflecting them all, to conserve energy Pherno cleared a path through the storm with a blast of fire, burning a tunnel through the cloud.

Landing amidst the dragons, Pherno sent fireballs in all directions, killing dozens of red hand soldiers. Smiling broadly, Pherno was happy; he was finally doing what he loved doing most.

Arvandos stood up again, his back still warm from the fireball that would have struck his chest. Turning, he saw Aludra winding a fallen crossbow. "Stop", he whispered, and that one word froze her. "Go a few Dragons down and aim them at the channeler, just don't fire unless he kills me. Try to be inconspicuous for once, got it?" She nodded, maybe she just didn't like talking to those placed above her.

The dreadlord was stood in the same spot, laughing as bolts shattered on nothing just inches from him. Arvandos walked towards him, as casually as his nervousness would let him. The man returned fire a few times but he noticed Arvandos and stopped, watching him like a bird staring down at a worm. Twenty five paces away, Arvandos cupped his hands to shout, "Hold, hold your bloody fire!" A few bolts darted in one last time, but everyone knew by now they were useless. The dreadlord, somewhat familiar, just laughed even harder.

Suddenly, an explosion rocked the hilltop. Nearly falling, Arvandos thought he saw the dreadlord stagger, but he stood straight when Arvandos looked up a second later. Maybe Lord Mat's luck had been with them, if that eggcart hadn't been rolled downhill by a fireball...

Standing straight again, Arvandos started his approach again. This was madness, not even Lord Mat was lucky enough for this. To the side he saw what was left of the Finder, only recognizable by the smoldering staff by the corpse's hand. Forcing his face smooth, Arvandos repeated his last words to the Finder in his head. We'll make our own luck. We'll make our own luck. How do you make your own flaming luck?

"You will obey me",he said to one of the Fades standing in front of him."I know how to bring pain to your kind, and the pain is what awaits you if you don't attack."

Myrdralls were newer afraid, they brought fear to others, but their expressions were closest to fear that you could see on a face of a Fade.

"If we attack again, all will be lost."

"I don't care, you will attack.Dragoons are not protected by the Asha'man or Aes Sedai, they will be easy to kill."

One of the fades opened mouth as to object, and he weaved simple weave using the True Power. The scream of the Fade was terrifying, but he didn't pay attention.

Other two vanished in Shadows, leaving him alone on the hill.

He underestimated Demandred. The Chosen was not so strong in Power as he was but his skills were far greater,as he showed him.He tried to use True Power on him,but the Chosen blocked attacks with an ease.

"You will not waste time anymore",Chosen said to him,his steel eyes not letting even a hint of his mood.

"start attacking the Tower or even the Great Lord would not help you."

He would pray to the light that he abandoned if he knew that it would help him. There was no escaping.

He wove the hammer of spirit and air using Saidin,He could not use the True Power all the time because he begun to feel the consequences of the usage. The Saa flecks were now visible all the time, and his mind was numb.He didn't care for anything except destruction. He resisted that urge but he didn't knew how long he could do it.When that happens, nobody would be safe.He will kill everything that comes on his way.Weaves with saidin were not so effective like the ones with the True Power, but they will serve the purpose.Shield around the Tower was not showing any signs of weakening even after the constant attack from him and other Dreadlords.Still he continued to attack. If he stopped, something worse than death awaited him,Demander told him that, and looking at those steel eyes it was clear that he was telling the truth.

OOC: No problem, i understand (i am somewhat of a writer myself  :) ). The way to fight with RPing is by taking turns. Like, you write a few lines detailing how your guy deflects the other guys last attack and then your guy attacks back. It goes like that until something happens. The important thing is to not make the other guy do anything with the other guy (because that is against the forums Roleplaying rules, and it annoys people)  ;)

IC: Pherno staggered and nearly fell to the ground as an explosion rocked the hilltop. What in the shadow had that been!?

Pherno composed himself and saw someone who seemed very familiar. Ah, yes! He had been a Darkfriend who Pherno had seen around at meetings.... he must have gone turncoat! Traitor! He would burn, just like the rest. Laughing, he drew back his arm and made a throwing motion, and a pulsing, orange fireball lanced out of his hand. The fireball went straight for the handless ex-darkfriend, but Pherno didn't see the line of Dragons nearby about to fire straight at him...

Just feet from Arvandos, the fireball slowed. No, the world slowed. His stub seemed to crawl through jelly as it moved to block the orange bolt of fire. Individual tongues of flame were clear to him, their movements slow as the clouds. The fireball reached his wrist-bow; wood and leather simply incinerating where it touched. The fixed bolt melted and drops floated lightly to the ground. The flames seemed to ring his bow and stub, throwing off a harsh glare. The world stopped entirely. From the bow, bands of smoke twirled in intricate patterns froze amidst brilliant sparks that bettered any Illuminator's work. It was as if the sun was sitting peacefully on his wrist. It was beautiful.

Arvandos lay on his back. It was dark, but that couldn't be right. He tried to open his eyes, but nothing happened. He knew he should be in pain, but he wasn't and he couldn't remember why he should be. He supposed the Dreadlord hadn't recognized him, maybe if Lord Mat had been there. Lord Mat? Who was Lord Mat? What Dreadlord? It didn't matter, it was peaceful here, he stopped worrying. There was no sound until three somethings whirled through the air three feet above him. That, he remembered. Arvandos smiled, and then he was falling.

OOC: Well, how long did you expect a non-channeler to survive in this kind of battle?
