Long hours of training with the Queen’s Guards has stripped most of the fat from his body. Mikel has a long scar to the left of his left eye as the result of being assaulted by two drunken gamblers on the streets of Caemlyn.

Place of Birth/Raising: Andor/ Four Kings

Character History:

Mikel was born to a small-time merchant family in Four Kings. He never really fit in with the merchant life, as his head was no good for numbers. As a small child, about eight, he started getting into fights with other children, one time breaking the child’s arm. He was punished heartily for his actions, and he was resentful of that. Further investigation on his father’s part found that the other child, who was thirteen at the time, had been trying to scrawl the Dragon’s Fang on the merchant’s door, and Jordan, although he was younger, knew nobody in his family for a Darkfriend, and stopped the older child by force. Mikel’s father apologized, and praised Jordan for his actions, albeit in secret.

When Mikel turned fifteen, having no head for being a merchant, he started training with the sword, going on his father’s trains as a guard. Mikel loved traveling, and even if he was still chained to his father’s will, he viewed these times as some of the best of his life. When he was on that horse, shield on his arm, and lance across his lap, he felt free. He named his horse Dieb, meaning wind in the old tongue, and cared for him as he would himself. Dieb virtually became Mikel’s best friend in the world because he didn’t get along well with the other kids because of the incident when he was eight.

Right after Mikel turned eighteen, he decided it was time to leave his home. His little brother, Garet, would care for the shop, and train as a merchant. Mikel’s father gave him some gold for the journey, and Mikel departed home, with only Dieb for company. Mikel eventually ended up in Caemlyn, and enlisting in the Queen’s guards. Mikel Found his home in the guards, in a place with others who could fight and do it well, he felt he could succeed in the guards. Mikel ended up making friends among other cavalrymen, and things went well, for about a year.

After Mikel was about a year with the Queen’s Guards, disaster struck. Mikel was off on leave at an inn in Caemlyn, dicing and having a good time. Mikel’s luck ran well that night, and he ended up winning a lot off of the other patrons at the inn. As he was walking back to the barracks, two of the other patrons, drunk, assaulted him. They were angry of over what they thought was some matter of weighted dice. They cursed him and called him Darkfriend. Mikel spun on them and vehemently denied being a friend of the dark. The other two were still angry, however, and one pulled a knife and leaped at Mikel. Mikel was surprised at this move, and was barely able to pull his head back as the knife cut a long gouge right to the side of his left eye. Cut bleeding profusely, Mikel grabbed the man’s arm and twisted it, breaking it at the elbow, then brought his knee up to the man’s groin. The first man’s friend roared and drew his knife, leaping at Mikel. Mikel bent and grabbed his own knife from it’s sheath, and ducked under the man’s drunken blow and stabbed him in the chest, knife sinking to the hilt.

It was all such a rush, the man lay there, bleeding out from the hole in his chest. Mikel knew the wound was fatal, but he tried to save the man anyway.  Having not succeeded, he lifted the other man over his shoulder and carried the man, despite his protests, to a wise woman to have his bone set, Mikel paid the woman and was off to find the man he had killed. The fact that he had killed a man did not bother Mikel as much as it once had, he had spent a year in the guards, and had killed his fair share of bandits, and after all, the man had been trying to take his life. The city watch had already arrived and was inspecting the body. Mikel turned himself in. They were surprised that he would do such a thing, and once he explained everything, they let him out after a week. He was thrown out of the Guards, however, some matter of being made an example for others not to get in brawls. Mikel was at a loss at what to do, he had left home to come to Caemlyn, and had no particular goal.

He was wandering the roads, heading vaguely south, when he came across a party of the Children on their way back to Amador from negotiations with the Queen. He spoke to some of the Children, and was impressed by their dedication and ideals. Having nowhere else to go, he set off to Amador, looking for a second chance in the Children of the Light
