The Ongoing Wheel of Time Comic Book Series from Dynamite Entertainment

I thought I might move this conversation out of the Red Eagle Entertainment ghetto. The Dabel Bros. are no longer publishing the ongoing Wheel of Time comic book series beginning with the Eye of the World (no idea about the last issue of New Spring  :(). I have linked the solicitation for their relaunch of the Eye of the World with a #0 and #1 double issue as well as an interview Newsarama did with series writer Chuck Dixon. Dynamite is a great publisher and will get this series out on a much more regular schedule than what we have experienced before.

I have said it over in the Red Eagle - New Spring topic thread but with comic books today it is easiest to preorder your books (hence the April solictitations) from a site like Discount Comic Book Service; www.dcbservice.com. I order all my books from them and when something is cancelled (like New Spring or the Eye of the World) then DCBS issues a refund - I don't have to go after the publisher as many other people have.

I have talked to Jason and I actually think that information is incorrect. The Dabels may be finishing New Spring (maybe) but according to Chuck Dixon (the adaptive writer for both series) at least the Eye of the World series will be published by Dynamite. And thank goodness and good riddance for that.

I received an email from Dabel Brothers stating that my WOT subscription is still intact and will resume this May. They apologize for any inconvenience and ask that I enjoy pages from the next issue of WOT, then go on to say that I will continue to get updates and special bonus materials until the next installment is released.

Why would Dabel send that out if they were not doing the books, I mean would they not say in the email that Dynamite would be fulfilling my subscription if that's the case? I really am not trying to be devils advocate here I am just confused because the facts seem to show that Dabel has held on to WOT.

Honestly, I am not sure what is going on with the Dabels and what they are producing - maybe the final issue of New Spring? All I know is I am putting my preorder in for April 2010 comic books (I buy stuff from Marvel, DC, Dark Horse and various independents in advance; much cheaper that way) and I just paid $1.99 to preorder this book from Dynamite Entertainment; to be in stores on 4/28/2010: http://www.dcbservice.com/category.aspx?id=6.

ROBERT JORDAN WHEEL OF TIME #1 *Special Discount*

The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth returns again. In the Third Age, an Age of Prophecy, the World and Time themselves hang in the balance. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow. Strangers have come to the village of Emond's Field, located in Two Rivers, during the Bel Tine holiday. With theses strangers come stories of the outside world: tales of war and of a man who claims to be the Dragon Reborn, the one prophesized to save the world, and also to destroy it in his madness. For it is known that no man can channel the One Power without going horribly insane. Featuring issues 0 and 1 of the series, from writer Robert Jordan - joined by the legendary Chuck Dixon - along with artist Chase Conley! 64 BIG pages with bonus materials!

Product Code: FEB100834

I read the first 10 or 12 issues of the Battlestar Galactica series Dynamite published a few years ago and really enjoyed the quality of the books and the artwork in particular. I am sure they will bring the same amount of professionalism to the Wheel of Time universe.

Ok, the solicitations for May 2010 comics are up and that includes the solicitation for Dynamite's The Wheel of Time #2:

http://www.newsarama.com/comics/Dynamite-May-2010-Solicitations-100224.html

ROBERT JORDAN’S THE WHEEL OF TIME: EYE OF THE WORLD VOL. 1 #2

Written by ROBERT JORDAN & CHUCK DIXON

Art and cover by CHASE CONLEY

1-in-10 chase cover by SEAMAS

32 pages $3.99

Strangers, a Gleeman, a peddler from afar and even fireworks might possibly make this the best Bel Tine ever in Two Rivers. Well, if it wasn't for the bestial Trollocs and fearsome Myrddraal waiting to attack Two Rivers in search of the Dragon Reborn... Moiraine Damodred, an Aes Sedai, and her Warder, al'Lan Mandragoran, are all that stand in the way of the Darkness that has descended on Two Rivers. And Rand al'Thor and his two friends, Matrim Cauthon and Perrin Aybara, must leave the only home they have ever known if they want to spare their loved ones from any further danger.

Notice how they have changed the title the The Eye of the World Vol. 1 #2. I wonder if the volumes will correspond to the novels or if the will break up the novels into multiple volumes themselves?

I really hope it sells well too. At least well enough that it can get enough issues to warrant a trade paperback or two. I think this series will fair really well in collected form at bookstores.

I also hope this site covers each issue as it comes out; we get features on the eBook covers (which are really cool) and I would hope we could get something similar when each issue comes out from Dynamite.
