September Music & Travel Themes - You Pick

Right...I have been picking the themes for the Band of late, but for September, I am giving you  the chance to pick what you want the Band to focus on - both music and travel wise.

 

I'm starting this discussion early so we can get a final decision by the time September starts.

 

- So, for music, please just nominate genres, a group, a period of music. Somthing along those lines.

 

- For travel, please nominate a type of holiday, a continent, a country, something related to a holiday (food, drink, activities)

 

I will put a deadline up later this week before I will start polls on the ideas generated.

 

WARNING: If no decision is reached, I have a few ideas up my sleeve and will use those instead.

I'm going to throw the idea of Girl Groups into the mix for September.

Well, I don't know if you did this in the past coupla months, but since summer is until nearly the end of September, how about "Beach Music" for a music theme?

 

And for travel, I nominate a continent and a country--> Australia! To go with the Beach music!

Don't want to sound obsessed here, but my local radio station does a bit in September called Zeptember (I'm sure you understand it lol). They do a pretty good job of it too. Another idea is doing a bit from someone who has been named guitarist of the year, ie. Slash- a GnR or Velvet Revolver.

Oops. Probably should have looked around here first before I posted the thread on National Parks. Since I already posted it, I am thinking that for the travel theme, we could do something on best historical places to journey to. Thats all I got now, but im sure ill think of more ideas

Before I went to work, which is really early for me, I looked at it, and in my tired stupor, I deleted it.  Seemed like a good idea at the time, but at about 10, I realized what I had done and kicked myself lol. GOnna have to re post it

I like Zep's idea for the guitarists. we could also do best vocalists and such.

How about a covers month? Instead of a "It's A Knockout", I have a thread up where the original song takes on a cover and we see which is the better song? "Tune or No Tune" will run as normal (with successful covers) and I am sure I can work in a "It's A Knockout" as well.

 

The idea was inspired by watching Gary Moore's version of Over the Hills and Far Away and then the cover by Nightwish.

 

I am away for a few days in September as I am away on holiday (going to Prague) so I will need someone to run this while I am away (looks at his mythical Senior Staff  :P)

Farcrie - I haven't included "metal" as it is too large a category. In future, I suggest you pick a certain area of the genre to focus on for a month. I have "Female Fronted Metal" and "Symphonic Metal" as two ideas up my sleeve - only because it is the sub-genre of metal that I am into.

i agree with you there as "metal" is one of the broadest music categories spanning from hair metal to death metal. i was going to see which was the most popular among the banders but i got sidetracked for a long time. A broken foot will do such.
