With July's theme of Michael Jackson ending in a damp squimb (blame my internet connection), we are moving into a different theme for August. And a big thanks to Direwolf Jon for picking "One Hit Wonders", for there will be some absolute crackers! And to make up for last week's no show, here is the second installment of "Tune or No Tune". All you need to do is decide whether the song I have chosen is a TUNE (i.e. you love it) or a NO TUNE (i.e. you hate it). Quite simple, really!

With Kung Fu Fighting up for vote in the first thread, the second thread sees a song that has been covered by various artists, including Marilyn Manson and Gloria Jones, the original singer. However, under Soft Cell, Tainted Love came to prominance.

Soft Cell consist of vocalist Marc Almond and David Ball on synthesizers. The song peaked at number 1 in the UK in 1981, and did so in 17 countries. In the US, it took a record breaking 19 weeks to crack the US Top 40, the song eventually reached number 8 and spent a then-record breaking 43 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. So it is a record breaking song.

Synthesizers were big at the start of the 1980s, and Tainted Love is no exception. It helps to make it stand out so. The vocals support the song well, and together make a complete package. I can see why it topped so many charts, and I give Tainted Love by Soft Cell the vote of TUNE.

For those of you who haven't heard the song, here is a link to YouTube.

The poll closes in a week's time, which is Monday 10th August 2009. So make sure you vote now before the time for the latest "Tune or No Tune" poll finishes!
