Hi all!

I'm reading this part for the third time now, and some things are still unclear to me.

What I'm talking about is Chapter22 of the CoS - well, actually, some chapters before and after that as well.

So if someone could explain me in details what actually happens in Ebou Dar regarding Mat, the Wandering Woman, Setalle Anan and the girls, I'd be grateful.

Things I don't EXACTLY understand include:

Why is Caira acting weird about Birgitte in Mat's room. Who does she (and Setalle) think she is?

Who do they take Mat for? What dangers do they think he is in?

The morning after, Elayne and Nynaeve visit Mat. Who does Caira think they are and what does she tell Setalle. I'm talking about this in particular:

"You two will make more trouble for him than he ever could. [...] I couldn't believe it when Caira told me. I doubt I've ever seen so much foolishness poured into just two dresses."

Is it that Caira saw the rings and told Setalle and since the Tarasin Palace is so close, the might get them AND Mat into trouble, or is there soemthing more to it?

I might have missed some details.

If someone could sum up what happens in Ebou Dar from Setalle point of view (starting from the arrival to say their departure after the invasion and all that), that would help a lot. I think I understand most, but I'm sure I missed some fine details because it just doesn't make a complete picture for me.

Thanks in advance.

If you do not mind spoilers...

Somehow, I don't think spoilers are a problem.

A pretty girl in Mat's room. Quite why she would be jealous over a succession of pretty girls visiting Mat "I'll flirt with anything in a skirt" Cauthon is a mystery...

I think that's more or less it.

Hi all!

Hi

Why is Caira acting weird about Birgitte in Mat's room. Who does she (and Setalle) think she is?

Matt had been flirting with Caira, and though Setalle keeps good reign on her staff Caira was probably feeling a little spurned.

Who do they take Mat for? What dangers do they think he is in?

They take him for a lord.... he dresses like one and he has gobs of money to throw around.  Besides Setalle takes to his 'rougish' side.

Again, Caira's initially feeling spurned by Matt having all these pretty female visitors.  As to the quote Setalle thinks that they're runnaways from the tower who are pretending to be sisters, and who (she assumes) are tangled up in some love triangle with Matt.  Knowing what sisters do with people who pretend to be Aes Sedai (having been one) she assumes that they will be caught and that they'll get Matt in trouble.  Like I said she'd taken a liking to Matt and wanted to protect him.

Isnt this after Setalle has taken elayne and nyn to the kin for the first time?

No, this is the incident that prompts their introduction to the Kin.

Well said, icspots

Alright, since i remember Mat getting a comment similar to this about elayne and nyn, after they had been taken to the kin/the moment setalle found out they thought of themselves as AS. Not before. Ill just have to reread the chapters when i get my hands on my books.

I think it was ta'veren twisting on Mat's part.  Mat and Perrin don't effect entire cities for the most part but they do set off ta'veren swirls.
