My character

I'm new to the board. HEY EVERYONE  ;D

Anyway. I have read several of the books, though its been a while.  I am re-reading and am about to wrap up book 4, before I continue on from where i left off.

So I been thinking of Characters, and I saw a few old posts on what people would be if they had characters or could CREATE characters. I was going to reply to an old post but the board told me to post a new one lol.

So my character comes from a dream of mine involving WOT.

In the dream something was happening that was causing havoc all over the earth. This was set this year.. 2009.  It was  temporal flux of some sort.  A few dead dinosaurs had appeared out of nowhere, a few sections of a highway vanished for no reason. 1/2 of a like filled with fish never seen before, while the other half remained untouched, etc.

In this dream I was here in our time, our world 2009, and the next minute I was naked and on the floor in the White Tower.  Siuan was still in charge.  I was dropped head long into her chambers where it caused a stir, also a few of the items near me came too,  a computer, 1/2 of a car, some stuff like that.

Anyway, they first thought me part of the darkone, or a dark friend.  About 3 weeks into it, it was obvious I was not and was harmless so i was allowed to roam about.

At about that time I noticed 3 "lights" in my head. That's the best way to describe it.  I could sense three things there when i closed my eyes that I could not before.  I would lay awake thinking about them and how they got there and what they were.  I became good friends with Nynaeve and she and I talked at length about what they could be, where i came from, how i got there, etc.

The tower had heard of such appearances before of strange objects, things, parts of animals, but never a male, who lived such as I.

One day Nynaeve and I were out walking around the tower in the gardens and we had to go around some "work" being done on the tower and she fell, and before I knew what happened I caught her. With what I did not know, and how I did not know. But she stopped about 3 feet above the ground as if floating.

She was in total shock and she looked around at me, and it took her quite some time to say anything. All of the Aes Sedi came running and they all were standing, looking at me in shock. I eventually dropped Nynaeve the other 3 feet because i had no clue what I had done, but the sisters were staring at me in disbelief, because as a male, I was holding Saidar.

How this happened and why became top priority.  The three lights turned out to pieces of the one power.  I could see, sense and use not only Saidar, but Saidin, though its taint kept me at bay.  And I could handle something else that no Aes Sedi had handled in thousands of years and then only a couple.

They called it Sai'dasha.  The mixing of the one power. The place where saidar and saidin meet is a mix of the two.  There was an Angreal or two in the tower built for Sai 'dasha.  And I was told I was called not an Aes Sedi but a Kaden Sedi.  This was in part due to my sexuality.  In real life I'm gay.

And in several cultures gay people are considered "two-spirited".  As having both male and female wrapped up in one soul.

So this gave me the ability to handle either side or the Sai'dasha.  I was forbidden to handle Saidin and the reds wanted me stilled.

I could handle roughtly ten times what any of the Aes Sedi could in Saidar, and when holding Sai'dasha it must have been close to Rand with Callandor or more.  When I held Sai'Dasha the Aes Sedi could not see it, they could see and sense "something" but not exactly what.  I could use angreal sa' angreal and ter 'angreal for either, as well as the ones built for Sai 'dasha.

The Amiryln explained being Kaden (gay) was a will of the pattern.  That it was said in other ages when the earth's population was of numbers that "boggled the mind" many Kaden were here.  And I explained to her that in my age (2009) there were many Kaden.  She then stated in other ages when populations were small, kaden was rare, and a Kaden Sedi was the most rare of all.

So I thought this was a very neat Character! :)

Oh and yeah,,,, I dream novels. I should write them down.  I could write an entire book on that dream alone there is a lot I left out.  Part of which involved me helping unstill a few after the big revolt, and me wiping out an entire forest in my sleep! :) Needless to say the Red's hate me.

Go Kaden Sedi :)

You have some neat ideas!

If you are interested in creating your own characters in the WoT world, you should check out the Dragon Reborn PSW which is based on the world in the books.  There is also Revolution One, a freeform RP board where if you can imagine it, you can RP it with no constraints.  (Flying Aes Sedai?  Talking Animals?  Sure!)

Nice yarn spinning there!

The character seems a bit too powerful to me though. If you could wield both powers and equal or better Rand holding Callandor... Well. What could stop you apart from a smith's hammer in the face or any numbers of crossbow bolts in your back? I'd say that the hunt for Kaden Sedai (thought you'd misspelled Aes Sedai and therefore also kedin Sedai) would be hotter than the seventh level of any given Hell. Is it then a likely character to incorporate into any story? ;) Perhaps if there was a serious drawback to its abilities such as: If a Kaden Sedai ever weave a weave wrong it would backfire and multiply its energy a 1000 fold - which would incinerate the Kaden Sedai instantly and also create some degree of devastation around him/her. (I assume even girls who are lesbian would touch both sources). It could also be pattern affected. if a Kaden Sedai used Balefire the pattern would rebound and re-create what ever was erased by the Balefire. ;)

Anyway, impossible character, neat story!

<Wanders into the thread in the form of a 5'4 wolf> And who says you have to be in Rev one for talking animals, just go talk to a few wolfkin for an hour or so....

Interesting charicter, the white tower must be as interested in him as they are in wolfkin (whom they constantly try and test to see if we enjoy doggy treats...<Hides a box behind back>...not that they have found anything yet). I agree thought that it is overpowered, but none the less a well writen story of sorts

Have you any interest in the Role playing side of the Wheel of Time? If you do go check out the Div's and see if you like one (I am a wolfkin if you couldnt tell from the signature...and well how I entered the post) there is a place for everyone...but if you go to the black tower, make sure you pack plenty of booze, Light knows you will need it.

Hey,

Thanks for the response.  I agree the character was powerful, but then again it was in my dream, so what fun would a weak one be. ahahha.  I have often thought on how to make it a more realistic character.  I even thought about some drawbacks to using a mix of the two powers.  Maybe you can only maintain the full use of both powers for limited time, then you'd have to use one or the other.

And sorry about the typos. When I get going I don't slow down for spell check. HA!  The sign of a great writer ? Or was that a lazy one?

Considering how we've met gay characters in WoT already who only channel one half I don't see how they should suddenly get both.

I know I read the part where it's a dream.

By Book 4 you've met at least one, though they don't talk about it too much until later. I'll give you a clue though "Pillow Friend" is code for lesbian.

I'd say some drawbacks would balance the character and since the use of both powers simultaneously is, in your dream, very powerful. Some really potent drawbacks.

But I have a thought: The One Power is tied to the Universe, tied to everything that is, right?! If so, the power that a female channeler and a male channeler uses must be the same power? The only difference is how the two sexes actually "dip into" that power source - purely biological. Male channelers have to fight for control while females embrace it peacefully. Female channelers don't come to their powers until they have started menstruating and males not until they have reached another level of adulthood - biological. If I am right, would dipping into both saidar and saidin make the person more powerful than if using using only one of them? Does adding one apple to another make a bigger apple or just two individual apples?

Does it mean that the dual source wielder taps into the One Power in two streams that he/she then weaves together into one stream?

How does he/she go about embracing saidar and fighting saidin at the same time? Many questions. ;)

Look at the Cleansing for that one.

The Cleansing took away the taint but not the way to embarce the male half of the source. The struggle with Saidin wasn't tied to the Dark One's taint. Or am I wrong?

Hmm, I might have answered one of my own questions here... The male and the female half of the source. That would make a dual wielder more powerful? Adding the other half would make it whole - the compleat source.. anyway.. you'd have to be schizo to use them both. ;)

Look at the Cleansing for that one.
The Cleansing took away the taint but not the way to embarce the male half of the source.
But Rand used both halves of the Source to do it, thus was embracing saidin and saidar, through Nynaeve, at the same time.

The only difference is how the two sexes actually "dip into" that power source - purely biological.
Yet a change from male to female didn't alter which half of the Source Balthamel/Aran'gar used, or how. So no, not just biological.
the power that a female channeler and a male channeler uses must be the same power?
Different halves of the TS.

Is this character's name Gary Stu?

Definatley an interesting topic.  I would say that if the character (in my dream) was handling the mix of the two powers directly it would be as simple as say handling saidar for the female, but he could only do it for a limited amount of time.

Now as far as handling both saidar and saidin at the same time? I would say it would be very very difficult for him to do this and weave them into one stream, or to weave them into anything useable. It would be the draw back.

In the dream though, it was loads of fun! :).. Minus the part about destroying an entire forest while asleep.

No, "Pillow Friend" is a term that relates to two women who sleep/slept together at the White Tower.

Suian and Moiraine were pillow friends, but they're not gay. They don't even appear to show any inclination toward bisexuality at the moment.

We've met very few gay charecters. The only one I can bring to mind is Tarna... but I might be wrong there. It's been a while.

I haven't got the gay vibe from any of the characters and as a gay male you think I would notice that. Well okay I do remember one. Gawayn? Galad. One of those, can't recall which.

That's a might be.

Nope, not those either. Gawyn loves Egwene and Galad was mooning over Nynaeve. Keep looking if it pleases you. ;)

From the blog:

For jofraz, I have gay and Lesbian characters in my books, but the only time it has really come into the open is with the Aes Sedai because I haven’t been inside the heads of any other characters who are either gay or bi. For the most part, in this world such things are taken as a matter of course. Remember, Cadsuane is surprised that Shalon and Ailil were so hot to hide that they had been sharing a bed even knowing how prim and proper Cairhienin are on the surface. Well, for many it is just on the surface.
So they are there, we just don't know because it hasn't come up.
