What other series/single books besides WoT would you suggest reading to a novice in Fantasy/SciFi?

 

As far as I know, in USA there would be quite a different list from, for example, Europe. Is that so?  ;)

I don't mean masterpieces like "A Song of Ice & Fire", rather kind of "local" writers.
