I Think I've Spotted Something...

I think I've just come across something that I haven't seen before. It's nothing major and no doubt someone has already seen it.

Right, we're all aware of the mythological links RJ scattered throught TWOT. One of the clearest is perhaps the Authurian legend and Rand. Sword in the Stone and all that jazz.

I've just come across another little nugget, which, I don't think has been mentioned before.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uther_Pendragon

At a banquet celebrating their victories, Uther becomes obsessively enamoured of Gorlois' wife, Igerna (Igraine), and a war ensues between Uther and his vassal. Gorlois sends Igerna to the impregnable castle of Tintagel for protection, while he himself is besieged by Uther in another town.

This wiki is talking about the legend of Uther Pendragon, Arthur's father.

Igraine = Tigraine ?

If so, think of terms of her running off, finding Rands dad, and also the Aiel War.

Nothing revolutionary, as I said, but it's a nice touch and it's one of many.

-- Sits back hoping he's added something new to the old legends thread on Darkfriends.net

Anyone found anything else while reading through?

... I found an HMV receipt for a couple of DVDs when I was flicking through book 2 the other day... does that count?

And how, pray tell, does that relate to anything, Trakand?

:P

Cheeky sod, get back to your terriers.  ;D

I wish I was that 'ard, I've got a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel...  ::)

Rolls Around on the Floor Laughing.

Apologies. I felt it warrented being written out in full.

I can just imagine throwing Rex at the enemy.

Enemy1 to Enemy2: "What's that... is it a missile?"

Enemy 2: "Looks like... a small...ginger dog?"

Enemy 3: "What's it got in it's mouth? OH MY GOD!!IS THAT A GRENADE?!"

Enemy 1: "No... I think it's a ball..."

Rex lands, bounces around like tigger and spends the rest of the afternoon distracting them with BlueBall his favourite toy, licking them on their noses every time they bend down to pick it up.

Cue end of war.

I think it could work, I really do.  ;D

Sorry, took the thread off-course there...

Another Monty moment:

The killer pink bunny and the Holy Handgrenade of Antioch.  ;D

Classic.

Sorry, Thin Inn Keeper, you're not the first,  :(

From the raswrj FAQ:

Tigraine: Ygrainne, King Arthur's mother, seduced by Uther Pendragon with Merlin's aid.

Unless you've lost sleep over the subject, it is always the safest bet to assume that someone else has already done it.

Oh, no sleep was lost. Just a piece of idle entertainment.

Plus, it'd be nice to find something new.

I did, I did! I found something that proves 100% that WoT world is our world, we even have our own (albeit abridged) version of the Karaethon Cycle, written by - tada! - LEWS Carrol:

JABBERWOCKY

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves

              Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;

            All mimsy were the borogoves,

              And the mome raths outgrabe.

            `Beware the Jabberwock, my son!

The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!

Beware the Jujub bird, and shun

              The frumious Bandersnatch!'

He took his vorpal sword in hand:

Long time the manxome foe he sought --

So rested he by the Tumtum gree,

              And stood awhile in thought.

And as in uffish thought he stood,

The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,

Came whiffling through the tulgey wook,

              And burbled as it came!

One, two!  One, two!  And through and through

              The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!

He left it dead, and with its head

              He went galumphing back.

`And has thou slain the Jabberwock?

Come to my arms, my beamish boy!

            O frabjous day!  Calloh!  Callay!

              He chortled in his joy.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves

              Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;

            All mimsy were the borogoves,

              And the mome raths outgrabe.

I'm sure everyone who's read WoT books at least once will immediately recognize Ba'alzamon and the Dark Lord in the Jabberwock and the frumious Bandersnatch; Avendessora tree is mentioned in the poem too, plus trollocks, myrddraal and draghkar.  The Callandor is here too - the 'vorpal sword'; and of course, the Dragon Reborn - the 'beamish boy'! :)
