Influence to RJ/all 2000k writers

I wounder if the turn of the century and all the technology, had any influence on RJ and/or all our of our 20th century writers subconly? A lot of dooms day, last battle, material. Action is good yet a lot of the same theme. Do you think RJ and/or other 2000k writers have been engraved with this without intention? A hundred years from now will our classics all look alike?

According to the Mayan long calender(I believe) the world is supposed to end or something on December 31, 2012.  So don't make any long term plans.
