So we think we know the Saldean female stereotype...

But do we? Or is our idea of the saldean female actually the saldean noblewoman?

We know Faile. We know what she's like. We know a little of Deira, she's the same as Faile (although I like Deira more). We know a tiny bit of Tenobia, and she seems quite voracious too from what we've seen (if not in my estimation as intelligent and sharp as Faile and Deira).

We know another Saldean woman, and as far as I'm concerned she's entirely different.

We know Sheriam.

We know her quite well. We know she was Mistress of Novices until just recently, and now is the Keeper under Egwene. We know she had a voice in the decision to raise Egwene and we know she's suspicious.

But she's very very different to Faile and Deira. If Faile were a true representation of a saldean woman, I would expect Sheriam to be pushing Egwene to within an inch of her life. I would expect her to be confrontational, especially with women (who surround her 24/7).

But she isnt... that we see. She's kindly, encouraging, supportive. Yes she raised Egwene and pushed her onto a pedestal but she doesnt seem to have any other Saldean-female characteristics. She allows herself to be beaten, she (apparently) passes on information, it is under debate whether let alone believe that 'spying is a wife's work', she could possibly BE the spy.

So is Faile/Deira a fake, is Sheriam putting on an act, or is Faile simply a noblewoman, and Sheriam isnt?

Sheriam was Saldean? :o

I had no idea!

But a general trend I have noticed among Aes Sedai is that after attaining the shawl they don't keep much of their former selves (with the possible exception of accents and silverpikes).

Actually, Siuan is the one AS I recall who clearly reminds everyone of her original birth due to her chosen curses.

Furthermore, Sheriam may be a farmer's daughter, for all we know.

Does anyone else think that it is strange how no AS seems to visit their parents/relatives? Their lives are SO tied to the Tower.

Take Leane as another example, we see her trying to relearn what her Domani background should have imprinted on her.

Aes Sedai are supposed to keep their calm at all times, and I think that if Sheriam had a Saldean temper when she came to the White Tower, it was...removed. Perhaps to the extent that she now shows a personality that is the very opposite.

I do however wonder, does Sheriam know the Sa'sara? ;D

I think Sheriam has either had her fieryness calmed by her time in the Tower or maybe she was never like that in the first place. It would be rather strange if every woman in Saldaea had exactly the same personality lol.

I expect it would be too painful, knowing that they were going to out live them all. A clean break would be easier than watching those they loved gradually age while they hardly change.

Well, some women are bound to be different than the norm, after all. And Sheriam must have been quite severe to become Mistress of Novices. In my view, the Tower breaking shook her.

Well, apart from Sheriam, all the women from Saldea, is "Selfish"...to the extent of ignoring even the darkest time of the man kind.

It will be funny to see what they do in Tarmon Gaidon. Probably be worrying about their dresses, makeup and social position.

I didn't like Deira's attitude towards Rand.It was blind sided. She sickens me as much as Fail does, more so cause she gave birth to Faile.

Still, I hate Egwene more.Die Egwene die, Die,die, die, die, die, die, die, die, die

I believe that Faile and Diera ar typical Saldean women. I seem to remember Eylas telling Perrin about some time he spent with one and he seemed to be describing the same type of woman and I very much doubt that Eylas would go for the noble type.

In addition to outliving everyone they love is the fact that until quite recently transportation was very inefficient.  I mean it's still very innefficient but now they have travelling.

That is most likely incorrect.  The statement, not a direct quote mind you, about Saldean women was definitely the fact that if their men fell, they would take up arms and follow in battle.  I dont think you'd find any saldean women thinking about makeup and social position during TG.  With their ferocity, I'd say they'd be fighting with their men for the chance to be on the front line.  (The last line is speculation, of course.)

Edit:  How rude of me.  I didnt give any input on the question directed in the thread here.  Well, here goes:

As posted above, I suspect that a Saldean AS is quite different from a Saldean like Faile.  The arguement that Cads still exhibits her forceful nature from Far Madding is of no consequence.  Forcefulness of opinion in AS is determined by strength in the OP, not our bearing from before.  I suspect that Cads seems to retain it simply because she was elevated since obtaining the shawl, and spends quite a bit of time outside the tower anyway.  So, no, I think that Sheriam would definitely be an exception to the normal Saldean woman, farmers daughter or not.  ;)

I said "Probably". But may be they won't think much about dresses and Make-ups.

But it won't surprise me if they fuss over "Why her husband shouting at another man(those he commands)....Is he sleeping with him? Is he love him?"

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Mind you, there is a lot of shouting in Battle field, most of them comes from the officer trying to order their men.

The real question I think we want an answer to is just what do Saldean farmgirls do at harvest?

Something much more interesting than dancing the sa'sara.....

*rubs hand enthusiastically* ;D
