Why was Lord Luc/Slayer in the Emonds Field?

Recommended Posts

Somewhere on this board I read that Lord Luc was in Emonds Field due to him being hired to kill Paidan Fain. While I was reading, I couldn't find a reason for Luc to be in the Two Rivers. If anyone knows please say so. Thanks.

I think Fain was the reason he was there. If you remember from the way he acted with Bornhald when he heard Fain had been at Taren Ferry, he was very interested in Fain's whereabouts.

He went with the original trollocs to get Fain. That's why it was always the patrols Fain led that got attacked by trollocs. He told Perrin that they started to bring in many more trollocs when they learned Perrin was there.

Luc and Isaam were combined somehow by the DO at SG. So I think that pretty much makes him an agent of the DO. As for who sent him to the Two Rivers in the first place... Well, that's still a mystery I believe.

Thanks for responding bcxanth, you have some good insight. Lord Luc is related to Rand, while Slayer is related to Rand correct? What's the story behind both of them? How were they turned? I remember in KOD Slayer is in Telaranriod (sp), does anyone have a clue what he was up to?

Slayer is the result of a melding between Isam, whi is Lan's cousin, and Luc, who is Rand's uncle. Isam was taken by the shadow as an infant, and somehow came upon Luc when he was sent to the Blight by Gitara Sedai, which lead to the melding, which we'll hopefully learn more about.

What he did in T'A'R? Probably just hunting wolves, he apparently enjoys that (see his POV in WH). Or scouting, same as Perrin was doing.

Yep, what Maj said.

Isam was Lan's cousin, child of some relative that was scheming for the throne of Malkier. When it was invaded his mother took him and fled, but was overrun by trollocs and killed, while her son was raised by the Shadow.

Luc was Tigraine's brother (hence uncle to Rand and Galad). Shortly before she went to the Waste, Luc went to seek his fortune/fame/fate in the Blight, where the encounter with his now other half took place. No one knows if he was evil before then, but he sure as hell is now.

Slayer's POV in WH indicates that he was contracted to kill Fain (the renegade) in TSR or before, I believe. The thing is that Fain was using Isam. Knowing that Isam would follow him anywhere and bring what forces deemed necessary to kill him, he brought two plagues upon Rand's homeland: a plague of Whitecloaks and the plague of trollocs that he knew Slayer would send after him. Say what you like about the guy, he's resourceful :?

Now, unless Gitara was BA and gave him a command as a higher ranking DF, then I doubt Luc was evil before his blending with Isaam.

I suspect he brought more trollocs not only because of Perrin's presense, but also because Fain was proving more difficult to get then he had predicted. But meh. As for who is comanding Slayer... indirectly it IS the Dark One, but we know thatone of the Forsaken is actually giving him direct orders--or at least was in the later books. As to who that is... ?

Heres a question, who would an Aes Sedai who is so obviously on the side of the light, like Gitara Moroso send Luc to the blight to become a weapon of the Shadow? More specifically, why would she have a foretelling that would aid the shadow? It presents the possibility that A) Luc had something to achieve in the Blight before being court and joined with Isam that was vital, or B) that something Slayer has done has been nessasary... the only things i could think of is the murder of rands biological father, though why that would be so important... or the potential killing of Padan Fain, which has been his goal for most the series.

Well, there's also the possibility that the Foretelling had nothing to do with aiding the shadow, that that part was just a side-effect.

What Was important was that Tigraine went to the Aiel waste, and gould go through with her part without interruptions. Now, if Luc had not been sent to the Blight, it's quite possible he would have ran off looking for her. Which could have messed up things quite a bit.
