I am an aspiring writer, hoping to write a fantasy novel/set, and was wondering if anyone else is writing/have written/are going to write a book? If you are what genre, and detail where you have got inspiration from, what your favourite authors are and why, and so on and so forth.

I personally have gained alot of inspiration from RJ since reading Wheel of Time. Not the sort that gives me ideas of what will happen in my story, but more about how I want to write it.

One of the best things about WoT in my opinion is how the PoVs are done. When it is with Rand, for example, you see through Rands eyes, hear through his ears, etc. You are reading Rands thoughts. There is very, very, VERY rarely few points in the books when it isnt following a particular characters thoughts. (Examples include the wind at the start of chapter 1 of each main book, and also when that woman discovers the remains of Herid Fel after the gholam paid him a visit). The good thing about doing it like that is, not only do you create suspense for the reader when a character learns something new, it also makes you feel like you're there that little bit more. And you get more attached to the characters.

Get thee to the Illuminators, and then to the Scribes Chapter House. You'll find an active community of writers and many activities to choose from as well as critiques for your original writing. Cheers!

We're working that out as we speak, but it's a seperate board that you can only see if you join the Illuminators first.  Just go to the sign-up thread there and you will be added!

It's good to hear that more writers are wanting to join. You came to the right place and hope to read some of your stories in the Illuminators. I like to read RJ, Steven king, JRR tolkien, and Terry Brooks. they are all very good writers

Hi Dreadlord! The Scribes Chapter House in the Illuminators Org is definately the home for Dragonmount's serious writers. We would love to help you break your block and get those books that you are wanting to write, out of you.

We do have an area for posting stories that ensures that first publication rights are kept to you, yet you can still receive the feedback you need.

I have added you to the Writer's Group so you should be able to see some of it now.

Welcome, and I hope to see you down there soon!  ;D

*Spanks Wes for failing to mention Suras!*

All you aspiring writer types should also be aware that the Illuminators are spearheading a collaborative worldbuilding project.  Basically, we're building an entirely new fantasy setting for our writers to write in, our artists to draw on, our RPers to RP in, our pornog . . . wait, no, not that last bit.

Anyway, come check out the Suras Collaboration board, which you don't have to be an illuminator to view, and jump in

I was an aspiring writer once.  Then I become the greatest writer to ever write stuff in the history of writing.  *nods*

Actually I am technically about 600 pages into the first book of a fantasy fiction series I was writing back in 2001.  I think from the overall plan in my head I was about half done with that book.  Haven't seen it in a while, I believe my mother has the copy of it on a computer at her place.  I usually don't keep a lot of that stuff on me, as I wander quite a bit.  Ya know, from town to town like in the song.

JD,

Used to write stuff,

Actual serious stuff.
