WS0 - WS1: Meeting the mentor, Weapon Selection/Handling/Care of weapons

ooc cause of that i figured we would start with lesson 1 inside, and then move outdoor for the handeling of weapon  ;)

 

Liitha put her dagers from her mother back in the box, all but 1, puting it down back under her bed she went to the shelf on the oposite side of the room, picking down a box, and a wetstone. She left her so called room and into the shared common area of the apartment. Cara was siting with her nose in a book, she knew the other woman likely could sence her if she paid atention, but still snuck up behind her and embraced her from behind.

 

"Hey hon, what are you reading" she peeked into the book and saw it was but a joy read, picking it out of her loves hand she reached back into her pocket and grabed the box, handing it over in the place of the book. The containment was a wetstone she had seen in town some days ago, with an usual shading to it. She waited till Cara pulled of the lid, "I figured it was time you learned how to care for that dagger I gave you."

 

Liitha slipped around and seated herself crossleged in the coutch beside Cara, the pulled her own dagger from her belt and the other stone out of her pocket. She angled the knife, and hefted the stone in her hand. With thorough slow motions she instructed Cara in how to sharpen a dagger, laying it away she motioned for Cara to try while siting ready to embrace the others hands and help her, a smile playing over her lips.

Liitha had mentioned on many occasions to Cara that she wanted to teach her how to use the dagger she had given her when they had Bonded, but the time had never been right, or Cara had not been in the mood, or a hundred other reasons that seemed to crop up with boring regularity. However it seemed the weather had conspired to work in their favour for once and the heavy over night snowfall was just the thing to energise Liitha and Cara to stay indoors.

 

Cara listened attentively to what Liitha had to say about sharpening the dagger, and the reasons why it was important to regularly inspect the blades edge to ensure no nicks marred it's sharpness. If the nick was too large it could cause a weakness in the blade and that would sooner or later cause the blade to break, not something that you wanted from a weapon. When Liitha stopped talking she handed the whetstone to Cara and told her it was her turn to demonstrate that she had been listening to Liitha's instructions.

 

Smiling at her lover, Cara quickly and easily sharpened the blade, using the whetstone with easy and practised sweeps of her hand. She had been shown how to do this by her father and it was not something she would ever forget. However, she was now looking for the approval of her lover, and she did not know if her standards would be higher than her father's or if Liitha would be harder to please than her father. That thought brought a mischievous smile to her lips; in one area she knew exactly how to please Liitha. The smile was quickly wiped from her face though, as she did not want Liitha to think she was not taking this seriously, that would not do at all.

 

Examining the blade, Cara handed it, hilt first, to Liitha. "I hope that is what you wanted, it has been some time since i was shown how to do this, so i may not be as practised as i would like to be." It really did mean a lot to her to get Liitha's approval, it counted more to her than most anything else in this world and she would do everything within her capabilities to achieve that.

Liitha took the dagger and ran a finger along the blade, then sucked her finger free of blood. "That works nicely hon" she smiled, "now should we go out and put it to some good use on some straw bags"

 

She handed the dagger back to Cara with an aproving look, then rose and extended her hand. It was snowing outside, but you could never choose your battlefield so it was just as well, they would just have to dress warmly.

 

She grabed a sweather from earlier of a chair by the door and tugged it over her head, before grabing the cloak that she had hung on a knob on the wall. She turned and looked if Cara was ready before opening the door with a smile. They troded through the halls downward, at first she had to think everytime she had walked this way, by now she had goten so used to it that she could walk it blindly.

She opened a side door out into a garden covered in snow and held out a gloved hand, watching the slow snowstars faling lazily, luckily the downpouring blanket wasnt to thigth, and through it all you could see the stars in the sky.

 

She trodded through the snow making a path for them knowing well it would be gone before they went back. Finaly ariving at the boundery to the yard and entering a corner of it, from the trees who where still clinging to autum leaves as if trying to deny the sudden winter was on them, hung snowy sacks of straw dolls.

 

She motioned for Cara, "Now your first task will be to imagine these three strawdummies to be tuggs, we will say for imagination that i am an Aes Sedai.." she put on a wry smile with a teasefull glimt in her eyes as she spoke the sentances she so often used on trainee's "..and your to defend us against these tuggs, this task will show me your skills." Liitha smiled and steped back to observe.

    Taking her loves hand always made Cara feel special, just the simple act of holding Liitha’s hand was enough to make Cara smile, although they had to be circumspect when it came to flaunting their relationship. However there were times, few and far between when in the Tower, where they could forget about propriety and allow their feelings full reign. Stepping out into the small garden, Cara felt the thrill of her lovers touch; even through the thick gloves she wore, if anything the thick gloves made Liitha’s touch more special.

    All of a sudden laughter bubbled up from Cara’s throat and she reached across to wipe away the snowflakes that had gathered in Liitha’s hair, and on her forehead. Although each winter there was the possibility of snow in Tar Valon, the actuality was not always the case and in all her long years, Cara had not seen snow often enough to spoil her enjoyment of it. However, she was not here today for some juvenile reason, the reason she was here today, with Liitha, was far more serious and deserving of her full attention. Cara snuggled the quilted jacket she wore, more tightly about her body, and listened intently as Liitha gave her the instructions.

    Defend you against these thugs? Just like that I am to become your guard and prevent any harm to your life? Cara kept her thoughts to herself, but she did think Liitha was expecting a bit much here, Cara was far more comfortable with real situations than imagined ones and she thought trying to imagine three straw dummies attacking a bit too fanciful for her tastes. However she decided to humour Liitha and drew her dagger and moved in front of her Aes Sedai, shifting her stance so that she was balanced on the balls of her feet, ready to move forwards or backwards as events dictated.

Liitha couldnt help but chuckle, "okey the tuggs are circeling around, soon they will be spread out in a circle around us, and i have taken a fatal wound some time back barely on my feet and can not channel. So to state it, you either attack or there is litle chanse we will be geting out of it, as I am in no ability to flee and you cant figth around me or with your back to several tuggs." She put a firm hand on cara's back and pushed her forward against the nearest doll.

 

"or in training language, i cant asses what you already know, and what you need to be thougth, if you dont show me what you know" she smiled and brushed some snow of her nose, "so get to work and shed some sweat my dear" luckily they where alone and she didnt have to watch herself overly much, which was something she enjoyed.

    We are surrounded and she expects me to attack them armed only with this puny dagger?

    For a moment Cara considered attackingLiitha for coming up with such a hair brained situation, but then her common sense took over and she started to think through the situation that she found herself in.

    “If you do not move soon our assailants will be upon us and then we will both end up dead, not very good for your first attempt at guarding your Aes Sedai”.

    Cara ignored Liitha’s obvious attempt at goading her and instead continued thinking, trying to remember all that she knew about fighting, which was not as much as she thought she knew. It was all well and good for Liitha to say attack, but with the thugs coming at them from three directions it was not easy to know which direction would be the best one to attack first.

    “Liitha, if I throw my dagger at one, I could attack a second with my hands and feet, or I could try to get the weapon from the one I attacked with my dagger. But no matter which one I attack, and if all goes well I can reach the second one, I would still not have enough time to get to the third before they gutted you. Cara stuck a finger in her mouth and looked at her Gaidin through her lashes, smiling evilly. “And you know I would so hate to lose you or see your pretty skin blemished by a blade, so why don’t you explain to me what I should do here, I can tell you are just dying to instruct me further.”

    To show there was no venom in her words, Cara removed her finger and blew a kiss at Liitha, her face suddenly breaking into a smile, knowing that Liitha expected her to take these lessons seriously, which she was, but she could not help but think this was something beyond her current abilities.

Liitha grabed Cara and yanked her back against herself, spining her around so Cara's back where inside the embrace. "Very well" she trailed her hand down over Cara's and adjusted it, then moved her head so she breathed into her ear. "relax now and try to twist, you will see that you can easily move the dager in all directions, your arm not bent enough you can not pull it back, yet enough bent that you can gain some speed to stab forward." She twisted the wrist with her hand and moved it to the side, "you can easily slash to the side, both up and down."

 

she let go and moved back, "your at disadvantage with a dagger, you want to be able to use any hole you get, as well as lure the oponent into reclessness so they come to close. Now let me see you practise it some, adjusting the preasure and how you hold the knife is something you will have to do to find your own balance, which again is needed to create maximum damage." she smiled and scooped up snow, making a hard ball and tossing it hard into the nearest dummy, seting it swinging. "Go on, ignore the other two for now, but empty that sac, it will take more then one should think" she grinned, "so how long we stay out here is up to you"

    Cara listened attentively to Liitha and her explanation of what she needed to do to triumph in the situation her Gaidin had created for her. At first Cara was not convinced that what Liitha was telling her would work, however Liitha was the one who knew about matters such as this, so Cara kept her quiet and when Liitha had finished talking and demonstrating, Cara did as she was instructed and put into practice everything Liitha had talked about.

    It took her a few attempts before Liitha stopped having to correct one  thing or the other, but eventually Cara was able to replicate the moves Liitha had shown her without too much trouble. Obviously against a real person Cara felt she would not be so successful, but as she commented to Liitha at least against a straw dummy she was not likely to her Aes Sedai killed. Eventually though, with the light fading and the cold finally seeping into her bones Cara suggested they return to their rooms.

    “I have something there that I think you will want Liitha, something that you should have had a while back but it has taken this long to procure it.”

    Cara did not elaborate any further; instead she took the lead and made her way back to the rooms the two women shared. When they were inside Cara kicked off her boots and shrugged off the quilted jacket and told Liitha to go and get herself warm in front of the fire while she went to get the surprise.

    Returning moments later, Cara slowly walked over to Liitha and handed over a carefully wrapped package and indicated that Liitha should open it.

    “I think you will find that that is something that is becoming to your new responsibilities concerning me.”

    Falling silent, Cara waited to see what Liitha’s response would be, as she waited she edged closer to the fire to allow its warmth to sink into her bones.

When Cara finaly sugested they move indoor again Liitha nodded, the sack was emptied enough of straw. Cara knew how to use the dager with her hand, of course that was far from all if she was to be effective, but it was a step in the rigth direction. She followed her Aes sedai quietly, soon enough she would teach her more, now she knew how to best hold the dager for as free movement as posible, next would be the footwork and teaching her more advansed motions. She grabed the other womans hand and squised it a moment in the dark before opening the tower door for her, inside she fell back a step pondering what Cara had in plans.

 

She hung the brown winter cloak she had had made off on a peg by the door, her red ones had been returned to the guard, and she had felt the brown suited just as well as any considering her Aes Sedais ajah. She then went on to setle down by the fires and waiting, she looked up at Cara as she arived and smiled, taking the pack handed to her, and carefully draging in the treads keeping it togheter, before folding back the paper while listening to Caras words. She looked at what was inside, then shifted her look up and smiled mischiviously, "I was wondering what was taking you so long, but you AesSedai so fickle at times I figured it was best not to ask." she grinned, "there is a rumor that one shouldnt anoy the Aes Sedai less one are suicidal" Liitha chuckled and draged Cara down into her lap.

    It would have been very pleasant to spend the next few hours curled up in Liitha’s arms, but Cara had other ideas and she was certain that Liitha would approve although it would take a while to fill the large copper bath tub, but it would be worthwhile in the end.

    Eventually the bath tub was filled with piping hot water and Cara had added some bath salts to it and then slowly she had undressed Liitha, while her Warder did the same for her. Sinking into the water until it rose up to her chin, Cara sighed with pleasure when Liitha did the same, leaning back against her and letting Cara’s arms embrace her.

    It was some time later that the two of them climbed out of the bath and wrapped themselves in two large towels and curled up in the large chair that dominated the room. “So my love, what plans do you have to tax me tomorrow, I am sure you will have some devilish schemes to inflict on me although I hope it is a bit warmer than it was today, although this almost makes up for that.

    Cara turned to Liitha and soon both of them forgot all about the trials of the day as they had something far more interesting to think about.
