Darkfriend Tinkers

In the chapter of Bors (Jaichim Carridin) he notes seeing a Tinker in the crowd of Darkfriends. I keep wondering, how does that work exactly? A darkfriend Tinker seems even more unlikely to me than a Whitecloak being one. For one thing, they're wandering nomads leading a pacifistic lifestyle with no contact with people of power or even cities. I can't imagine a need or want for a Tinker to ally with the Dark One. What sort of ambitions could he/she want to fulfil?

Well, mayhaps the guy who was examining everyone wasn't as clever as he thought, after all, a tinker in a darkfriend meeting, a perfect disguise  :o

Or it could be one tinker who abandoned tinker lifestyle but still kept part of their tinker upbringing, Aram for example went on from tinker to blade master level yet he still wore his stained and destroyed tinker outfit.

Its probably the safest profession/lifestyle a DF could have. What are the Tinkers going to do if they discover them? ans: leave them by the roadside and move on.

Also it makes sense to keep an eye on them. The DO and the Forsaken know about the Song the Tinkers are searching for and wouldn't want them finding it. Anything that can hamper the Light, they will do and keeping them hungry by denying them the Song to grow food does that.

Or it could be simmilar to what Ingtar did: Join the DO as a way to stay alive. He proves that every group will have one or two lunatics who believe that the way to save everyone would be to align with the DO. A lunitic pacifist would be more likely thatn other lunitics, though.

Beyond which, a tinker would make a perfect disguise for someone seeking to gather information. It allows easy travel, and people have preconceptions that allow a Tinker to act without the sort of suspicion that would be dangerous to a darkfriend. Look at how the Whitecloaks react to them, they dont even bother with their usual suspicions.

Being Human means being weak. We are all weak to one extent or another. We all have cracks in us that if the right weed happens to take root in it can break us. Tinkers are no different, they have weaknesses and with them the ability to be corrupted. The devil often appears in a beautiful form with honeyed words to tempt us. Evil is often something that seems apealing when it is offered to us. Power, Wealth, Love or Lust, things that can tempt any heart if offered in the right manner. It is only conviction and will that keeps us on the straight and narrow. And not everyone has the strength to keep the path. Good people sometimes do horrid things thinking it's for the greater good. But in the doing they walk the path of evil. Over time the more horrid acts you do for the Greater Good leads you deeper into the depths and make the next step that much easier. Fear also plays its part, if the world around you is in chaos you reach out and grab the first thing to offer you stability and safety. That could easily be what happened to this tinker. The long wandering, loss of hope, the world in upheaveal, a offer of hope and salvation even comming from the shadow may have seemed a fair trade.
