A WHEEL OF TIME COMMUNITY

Nynaeve rolled her eyes. She's been doing that quite a bit ever since they left Tar Valon. They were riding at a slow pace, Damian at the front. Ever since they've entered a forest, he's been eyeing every tree like it owed him something. Quickening the pace of her mount, Nynaeve caught up with Damian and rode by his side.

"I told you to stay behind, Nynaeve, while I scan the surroundings. It is for your own safety so do not even try to make this into an argument." Nynaeve stopped herself from rolling her eyes again. Her face suddenly lit up as idea surfaced. "What if someone comes at us from behind. I'll be completely exposed to an attack. At least if someone comes at us from the front, I'll be able to catch a glimpse of the person before it's too late. So, it would make more sense for you to ride behind me, really." Damian's eyes widened in distress and he stopped his mount, seemingly disturbed and lost in thought.

Nynaeve laughed. "I'm sorry, my love. I was just trying to faze you. Ever since we entered the forest I've maintained a shield behind us. Better safe then sorry, right?". Damian narrowed his eyes at her, which only intensified her content. She was trying to catch him off guard and it seemed her technique worked out better then she thought.

"When we camp for the night, I'm going to make you pay for that." Nynaeve's expression radiated defiance. "Is that a threat, good sir?". Damian matched her defiance. "More like a promise, my lady." Nynaeve suppressed a smile and held a smooth expression, seemingly untouched by his promise. "Then let us hope you know what you're getting yourself into." Nynaeve started forward with her mount. Damian smiled and followed her.

"Then let us hope you know what you're getting yourself into."  No, he did not know what in the world he had gotten himself into.  First he was just worried about brigands and thiefs.  Now he was worried about those evil trees and the squirrels running around, chattering for the fun of it.  His mind wanted to go to the alliance of rabbits and squirrels, but he fought it down as best he could.  Yet, Nyna seemed to uncaring as they made their way west.  Did she know something about the squirrels that he didn't.

STOP IT, he screamed in his mind.  He got a ways up in front of her as scouting and then stopped.  He needed to think suddenly.  Was this all really necessary?  Couldn't they handle anything that came their way?  He decided he would decrease his perimeter.  It would allow him to spend more time with her, and seem like he was just as uncaring as her.

Now what was he going to do to her tonight.  There was the obvious "payback".  He planned on enjoying that, and he was sure she did too.  Then something caught his eye.  A small berry.  He remembered it from Survival training.  It was a pleasant tasting fruit, but it left anything it touched stained a dark purple.  He carefully collected some and stowed them away in his saddle bags.  Then he returned to Nynaeve and rode beside her.

"Why the sudden smile Damian?" She asked him in not so nice tone.

"No reason at all Nynaeve Sedai, no reason at all."  He said, knowing full well she could tell he was up to something through the bond.

Night was soon upon them as they set up camp.  Damian made sure the shelter was up and put out traps to capture any food they could to supplement their supply.  They were in no danger of going hungry, but it was always good to have a little more meat.  Finally he put some water on to boil over a fire for some tea.  Nynaeve had protested the first night that she could just as easily heat the water up with the power.  However, he had told her that if they were going to rough it a little, they might as well take full advantage of the experience.

He carefully crushed up the berries so as not to get any on him.  He carefully scrapped some of the juice and a little of the fruit into the tea.  He then handed her her own glass as he kept his untainted one.  He just smiled as he watched her lips and mouth turn a nice shade of dark purple.

"Smiling again Damian?  What did you do?"  He just laughed.

Nynaeve's eyes narrowed. Why was the tea so sweet? and why was Damian having a laughter fit? Touching her lips, she examined her finger only to find it purple. The little snake! He put something in my tea! Weaving some air threads around Damian, Nynaeve kept him still. The man was more then capable of trying to run away. She of course had to retaliate. Any Aes Sedai would, really. Sitting on his lap, she was amused by his inability to move. Maybe she should consider keeping him like that. It would certainly keep him out of trouble.

"You just had to pull off a prank, didn't you. You couldn't help yourself." Damian's mouth opened to speak, but Nynaeve pressed her finger against his lips to quiet him down. "No, it's alright. I understand completly. It's hard to resist such urges. They're dangerous things, urges. For instance...the urge to kiss you, my love." Smiling wickedly, Nynaeve pressed her lips against Damian's and kissed him quite thoroughly. When she pulled away she left his mouth covered with the same substance that decorated her lips.

Getting up from his lap, Nynaeve used the water bag to get off the purple coloring and as an after thought realized that she hadn't released Damian from his bonds quite yet. She decided to leave them a bit longer, simply to prove that she had the upper hand. He didn't complain, though. He just sat there rigidly, looking at her with a smile on his face. Bloody man.
