I finally decided to register

I've been reading WOT for 11 years now, and I've been stopping in at Dragonmount for about the last five years...but never got around to registering here.

I'm re-reading the Wheel again...for the seventh or eigth time (depending on which books in the first seven you are talking about) and for the third or fourth time (depending on which books in 8-11 you are talking about).

Anyway, I just figured I would register and check out some of the WOT discussion around here.

Hello Destrus! Thanks for joining us! When you come to DM, where do you lurk most?  :)

Most of the time I will jump in about once or twice a week to check and see if there is any WOT news and to see if there are any updates on how RJ is doing.

I do peruse the forums a bit, but I just haven't gotten around to taking part in the discussions until now.  A lot of times I will read the theory threads to see how close my thoughts are to what a lot of the others are thinking...or to see how different my ideas of where things are going (or what things mean) are from the mainstream opinion.

I'm sure you'll all be seeing a bit more of me around.  I started re-reading TEOTW a week or so ago, and I'll probably be cruising around the boards engaging in discussions on the book that I'm currently reading.

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

Fair enough! Another fellow Alabamian, there are several of us here!

My Aunt lives in Dothan; it's a much bigger place than Dville.

For a just dropping in place, you can't do better than the Ogier. There you can if you choose, simply sit back at the Neon Leaf and enjoy a made-to-order brew, smoke a pipe, and discuss the book of the day...Peaceful place the Stump, unless the Aiel raid us again.  :D

I'm only in Dothan temporarily.  I'm originally from east Tennessee, but I have a job now that moves me around quite a bit.  In the last 6 years, I spend 3 years in Richmond, VA...18 months in Dallas/Fort Worth, and now 18 months here in Dothan.

Chances are that I won't be in Dothan in another year, but you never know...and you never know where the next stop is going to be....

Tennessee's good too. Just don't yell go big Orange too loud...*g*

I'm retired AF, and I never thought I'd say this, but I actually miss the moving to new places. That might be why I enjoy DM so much. So many different people in so many places.  :)

So...would someone be willing to explain the orginazations to me?

I mean, obviously from the books, I understand the different groups, but what's the deal with them?

I was noticing that the Aiel have rankings?  What's it all about?

The organizations are community posts that have different focus's. Some examples are the Illuminator's are your creativity outlet, where the Seanchan spend their time discussing TV show's, movies and console games, and Shayol Ghul is a spam organization.

Some org's have rank structures that are best explained by the particular org. In certain cases its just a status thing, where in other situations it sometimes indicates what you are able to do on the forum (moderator power- eg. Can you edit your own posts?) It really depends on the org.

The White Tower Org isn't exactly like the book, for example the Red Ajah are not men haters, and the other Ajahs each have their own interests. And the Children of Light aren't a religious type order, we do comedy and discuss ... stuff. Fiddlesticks is just a place to go and be silly, but we love it. The Wolfkin are a nature org. The Band is music and travel.

The other side of DM is the Role Playing Division.
