In a Seandar kaf house - open RP

The rich aroma of the kaf reached her nose before she reached the kaf house, and Edie breathed in deep, enjoying the scent and even more enjoying the anticipation of the taste. She could have kaf at home, it was true, but sometimes she just wanted to get away from her parents, who were beginning to chafe with all their lectures of what was the right thing to do and the right way to act to be true to their noble house. Edie snorted at the thought. She was considering going down and training with the sul'dam for a while, even though it would gain her no prestige, unlike some of the girls who were the only hope of their families. Still, training damane could be interesting, though Edeline was willing to admit - to herself, if no-one else - a slight nervousness about holding her sister's collar. She is not your sister anymore.

Her name had been struck off the records, true enough, but her mother was adamant that if Edie reminded anyone of the family's weakness in producing such a daughter she could lose face not only for herself but for her future children as well. Edie wasn't worried - she hadn't told her mother about it, but there was a young man from another house, slightly higher in standing to their own, who was interested in her, and since she could not marry anyone that she wanted, she might as well marry someone who would let her behave how she wanted.

She pushed all the thoughts from her mind as she reached the source of the scent, though, and she entered the kaf house and took a seat that would allow her to watch the people going past, ordering a pot of the potent brew and a selection of pastries and sweets to accompany it. She knew that she would not eat them all, and so she left the other seats on her table empty and facing in such a way that showed she was not wanting the table to herself, which some might have presumed from the parts of her hair that were shorn. Taking a deep sip of the brew, and enjoying all of the sensations that it gave, Edie settled down to watch the people going by.

Malik was a happy man today. He had the entire day off from training. He jingled his coins in his pocket just to reassure him they were there. He decided he wanted to do something relaxing for the day. He walked down the street and smelt the aroma before he saw the sign for it. Kaf. That delicious drink that smelt just as good. He pulled open the door and entered the room.

He looked around and saw a rather pale, but still attractive young woman. He sat down in front of her and kicked himself mentally. Her hair labeled her Low Blood, and Deathwatch Guards don't interact with Low Blood, unless they were in Her Majesty's favor. He was about to leave when she noticed him. To leave now, would draw unwanted attention from the rest of the place and unwanted interest from this noble. A serving woman came to him and he ordered a large cup of kaf.

Malik watched the Lady watch him, and he knew she saw the red and dark green patch that marked him a Deathwatch Trainee. She seemed to be about to say something and he wondered what it was. He glanced around. Where was that damned kaf?

Kaira stroked the hair from her face and listened to the merchant who commented on his fruit being the most fresh in this side of town. Was that truly something to be proud of? She sighed and told him she would be back later, this shopping trip was not at all coming to the close she had hoped it would. She had been alone in the house these past few days with her husband out on a trade trip along the coast line. Severus would be back in three days and she would show how well she had done without him, how little she needed him to be Mistress of the House herself. “Yes m’lady, I’m sure you will return now that you’ve seen and smelled the richness of my tomatoes, the full ripeness of these apples and berries, I shall prepare a basket just for you,†he called after her and Kaira waved him off. She did not like to be seen talking to merchants too long, not since her mother in law had shown her to the more upper classes in the city. It would not do to lose that newly found respect to be seen talking to those she truly did belong to, by her own family.

She passed a Kaf house and wondered if there would be time left to stop for a drink, her house was a good hour’s walk from the centre of the city and she had not asked for a carriage today. Actually, she had just left without telling her staff where she was off to. Suddenly so very tired of being their Lady and earning their respect over and over again. Something just had to happen to make them see, never forget that she was Lady Gundun, not someone married into the family trying to reign the household now. Settling into a seat, Kaira ordered a drink for herself and tried not to let her eyes wander over the likes that would venture into a public house like this. She had already run the risk by talking to a merchant for longer than it took to take some fruit from the man, now to be seen here…

When suddenly her eyes fell on a young woman she had seen before, a woman who was of The Blood. Kaira gasped for breathe and found herself staring at this woman, when a guard appeared next to her. Her eyes fell back on the table and she quickly took to sipping her drink, rather than staring openly. Was this her chance? Was this her way of meeting someone in the Blood and finding a way to invite this woman to one of her parties, to make her part of her own circle. Kaira watched the woman carefully and suddenly almost choked on the drink, it was warm and had slipped down the wrong way. She was coughing and rose from her seat, not aware of the attention she drew, but simply trying to draft some air. Kaira settled back in the chair after she was handed a cup of water that helped clear the cough, this was some strong drink she had been given and through watery eyes she looked over the woman from The Blood. Could she have missed this silly outburst of Kaira’s or would this ruin any chance she might have.

The fact that his kaf was taking so long to arrive was about to draw a comment from Edie, but she was distracted by a woman having a coughing fit. Edeline stood as people watched uselessly, but before she could do anything, someone rushed in with a glass of water and the woman finally stopped coughing and settled back in her chair. It would probably not be appropriate if she asked her parents, but Edie had never listened to them. She stood smoothly and walked over to the woman, asking, "Are you alright? I could summon a herbalist if you wish." She could summon a damane, but not many people liked being Healed by one of them - there was something not quite nice about being healed by something that was less than human. A view that Edie hadn't subscribed to since her sister was taken, but still one that many did subscribe to.

"Would you prefer to take your kaf by the window?" Edie walked back to her own table and motioned to one of the free seats, still not making any acknowledgement of the deathwatch trainee at her table. She had no idea who he was beyond the status his clothing marked, so she wasn't about to start with introductions to another woman whom she didn't know. Sitting once more, the young woman took a sip of her kaf and motioned to one of the serving girls.

"I am still waiting on my pastries, and I believe that this man ordered kaf." The girl nodded and positively ran off, returning soon with the items. Taking a sweet pastry and topping it with a dollop of cream from the selection of condiments on the plate, Edie made a vague motion to the plate to her two companions, inviting them to join her in the light meal.
