Anyway, finally finished Crossroads. Fairly certain this is the last book I read, but I thought I remembered Perrin actually rescuing Faile? Obviously I'm misremembering. Will see if what I remember plays out when I tackle KoD, but I swear I never read that far the first time.

 

I don't have the excitement to read the next books, though. Which makes me sad.

 

Some words of encouragement:
1) In Knife of Dreams you will find a lot of the payoffs for things set up in Winter's Heart and Crossroads of Twilight.

2) Fun times with Mat are ahead.

3) Many consider Knife of Dreams a return to form of Jordan.

4) Gathering Storm is actually one of my favourites in the series.

5) Crossroads is the last book in "the slog", so congrats on making it through.

 

I genuinly hope this helps, as there's great things ahead! 🙂

I should have clarified that I am looking forward to KoD, but I'm not because it's the last one of Jordan's and I'm going to have all kinds of sad feels about that.

If I can narrow in on a detail which may provide some extra motivation during a time of potentially flagging enthusiasm (alongside the more abstract points shared in my first post on the last page), I would note that through your lack of preconceptions on Sanderson you now have a unique perspective to offer us as you approach the final instalments of the series - a perspective which at minimum this one correspondent will look to keep abreast of with sincere interest.

 

There is clearly space for re-examination of the rich corpus of the Wheel of Time, and a great hunger for analysis, re-visitation, and vicarious extraction of insight by the contrast of opinions on the various plot points and narrative decisions the author(s) took. We, or at least I, do not take your opinions for granted, and will be very glad of your honest appraisals of these last few works.

I don't know about that.  I think RJ was quite the kinky dude.  His characters are tripling up on the wives, pillow friends, LOTS of spanking and imprisonment.  I bet he was a swinger.

Not kink - romance.

 

The dialogue Jordan wrote for people trying to be romantic was one of the most unrealistic things he did in the books.  Kink starts out unrealistic, so it doesn't hurt.
