Defaming the Green Ajah (Jaydena and Dulcinea)

"Of course not!  Don't you know that the Green Ajah is one big party?  I mean, have you been to any of the other Ajah quarters where there are men running around at all hours?  And no better than half-clothed sometimes," Dulcinea lowered her voice, speaking conspiratorially to Mina, a sun-haired Accepted who was putting on a face of mock affront while trying to keep back a fit of giggles.  "Why, I saw a man come out of the Green Quarters on my way to breakfast one day!  You know what he must have been doing to be in there all night!"  The two couldn't stand it any longer, and both began laughing.  "Well, you'll never catch me in a Green-fringed shawl!" Dulcinea declared, "I have far more sense than that.  Although," she mused, giving Mina a wicked smile, "It certainly would be fun!  I would have four Warders!  At least!  And I'd make them all practice barechested.  For our own amusement, Mina, of course."

Mina's look of mock horror changed to one of real shock as Dulcinea felt herself being hauled up by her ear.  She gave a squeak that she was sure was very unbecoming, and began to apologize profusely, without even seeing who had ahold of her.  It could only be an Aes Sedai.  Probably a Green.  She paled thinking about it.  "I'm sorry, Aes Sedai, I didn't mean...We were just having a bit of fun.  I know the Green Ajah doesn't...well, you know.  Do they?"  Foolish!  She snapped her mouth shut before she could dig herself in any deeper while the Aes Sedai, whose face she still hadn't seen, let her away.

With a stretch and a yawn she stood up and glanced down at the desk in front of her, it was neatly organized with written reports and reports that had come into her from her Sitters and the Eyes and Ears charge. The work was never done but at least her desk was more organized than it had been two hours ago. She raised her arms above her head and stretched on her tip toes; she wasn’t wearing any shoes and was still in her nightgown. Luckily her warders didn’t mind her state of undress and were all busy in the warder’s yard anyway. She grinned and walked towards her bedroom, as she checked her warder’s quarters she saw that their rooms were neat and tidy. Of course Cairma had chosen to live in the Warders Barracks so Jade couldn’t look at her room without going into the barracks. Although she knew if she did she would find her rooms clean as well, they learned all too well how little those things were tolerated as Trainees and it seemed to stick with them through all their days. In her opinion an organized warder was more efficient and more help in a battle. The door to her rooms were a pale green with roses carved into them, she smiled and walked into the bedroom with its adjoining bathroom. The room was large, as her position as Ajah head afforded her and was decorated in dark greens and jewel tones. She looked around her with a sigh of contentment, she might not have someone to hold her at night in the big bed but she was learning to live with that and be happy with what she did have. The large cherry wardrobe with heart shaped opening in the side and roses carved into it was full of her clothing. A green dress of brocade with white satin insets was pulled from it. She moved to her dresser and pulled out her undergarments and then headed off to get ready for the day.

When she had finished washing up with her handmade soaps and shampoos, a trick she had learned from her former lover. She walked out naked and began to dress for leaving her rooms. Nightclothes were exactly allowed garments in the Tower and she could only imagine what would happen if she walked out in them. A chuckled escaped her cupids bow mouth and she smiled before pulling the dress on and sliding her feet into her matching dress slippers. Jade walked over to her vanity and carefully applied some blush to her pale skin, she no longer tried to cover the freckles, it was pointless and really no one noticed the freckles with the mask that covered half her face. A burn had left her with massive scaring on her once beautiful face. She smiled at herself in the mirror, she was getting used to it, and it was nice to be regarded for her brains rather than her face and bust line. Well her bust line still got plenty of glances, and there were many men who didn’t seem to mind her face, but she wasn’t interested in being involved with anyone. All that did was hurt you in the end and if she did she wanted someone that was going to fall in love with some other woman and betray her. Pushing that horrible thought away she embraced the source and did the weave she had created to hold the mask in place, she tied it off and then walked from the room. She strapped a dagger to her waist and then walked out into the Green Hallways. A few quick weaves and her room was secured, she dropped off the reports she had grabbed on her way out and then headed off to the gardens. As she reached one of her favorite spots she heard a voice drifting at her, her eyebrows jumped to her hairline. Anger surged through her and she walked quickly toward the voices, as she did she heard the last words, "Well, you'll never catch me in a Green-fringed shawl! I have far more sense than that.  Although, it certainly would be fun!  I would have four Warders!  At least!  And I'd make them all practice bare-chested.  For our own amusement, Mina, of course."

She rounded the corner and saw two girls sitting on the ground in banded dressed; she walked quickly over and yanked the girl who was speaking up by her ear. The other one has a horrible look on her face and Jaydena glanced at her one more time, she would be reporting this one to the Mistress of Novices for having time to listen to gossip. A squeak came from the girl she was holding and Jaydena pinched her ear harder as the girl spoke,  "I'm sorry, Aes Sedai, I didn't mean...We were just having a bit of fun.  I know the Green Ajah doesn't...well, you know.  Do they?" Jade yanked her up higher and led her away, she still had a hold of her ear, and the girl couldn't have been enjoying it. Ohhhhhh this one will pay for spreading rumors, this is exactly the reason we are looked at as sluts instead of protectors of the Tower. Ill advised empty headed girls spreading half truths, she thought. Leading her toward the Green Ajah Tea Room she walked her inside and then sat her down, allowing the girl to face her at last. "Do you know who I am my child?"

Dulcinea felt like she had been dragged halfway through the entire Tower when she was unceremoniously tossed into an armchair.  She rubbed her throbbing ear and turned to look at her captor.  Then gave a little squeak when she saw who it was.

"Do you know who I am my child?" the Aes Sedai asked.

She nodded frantically.  How could she not know?  This was Jaydena Sedai, one of the Sitters for the Green Ajah!  The mask, if nothing else, was a dead giveaway.  It had been less than a year that rumors had started about what had happened to cause such a horrible disfigurement.  Most people put it down to an accident with a ter'angreal, but there were other stories also.  Of all the people to catch her gossiping about the Ajahs!  She slumped down in her chair and tried to look remorseful.

"Yes, Aes Sedai," she said meekly.

Small chance that this one would let her off easily, but she could try.  Foolish girl! she berated herself silently.  It had been almost a year since she had been in any sort of major trouble.  Careless, that's what this was.  Blind foolish carelessness!  She was getting so close to being Aes Sedai, and now she had to go and mess up all her progress from the past year.  At least!  And all to have a laugh with a friend.  Half-wit!

She tried to sink lower and couldn't quite meet the Jaydena Sedai's cold glare.

Now that she had a good look at who she had been dragging around, she was shocked that this woman had let that trash, that outright filth to pass her lips. She glared at the Accepted as the pretty woman with dark hair and eyes. At close to six foot she towered over Dulcinea, even more so since the Accepted was seated and cowering before her.  The woman looked her face over as though checking the mask out up close and personal in fact. Jaydena almost smirked, let her get a good look, this may be the last face she ever sees, masked or not, she thought. Finally, the woman started to gather enough courage to speak, "Yes, Aes Sedai.” Jaydena sighed and then regarded her for some time, she knew what she wanted to say to this woman but her heart was tired of defending a principal which no one seemed to understand. The Battle Ajah was not filled with whores of the worst sort, maybe they took their passions to far at times, but when death was all around, you learned to enjoy the smallest thing. A rose on a bush, its gentle fragrance, a bird shooting across the sky, and yes sometimes eve a fine bare of legs on a Tower Guard. “Dulcinea, if you know who I am, then you know that I don’t put up with any nonsense, especially from an Accepted who should know better. I had heard good things of you my child, things I am now starting to doubt were true. When I was your age I didn’t spend my time gossiping about the Ajahs, I spent my time actually learning about them and talking to sisters so that I would one day know my home. Frankly Dulcinea I am disappointed in you, your behavior, your conduct, and that knowing that you represent the Tower in all things as one of your Accepted, you still believed it was acceptable to behave like this.”

Jaydena glared down at her, sadness entering her eyes as she looked her over, the girl needed to learn her lesson and she needed to be taught what the Greens were about. It would be a character building experience, of which Jade firmly believed in. Walking behind the girl’s chair she began to speak, “Normally I would send you to the Mistress of Novices and odds are you would be flogged or sent to the penance farm. I am sure you heard of her temper, she is a wonderful woman, but she very much dislikes people defaming the Tower in any way, and that includes any of its Ajahs. So for once and since it was my Ajah you attacked, I will handle this one. For the start of your penance you will clean our Vault, now you may not have heard of this but maybe after seeing its hallowed halls you will remember what my Ajah stands for. It’s a very large area and you will clean it by yourself.  Second, I know of a ter'angreal that mimics the Bond, for one day you will wear that bracelet with me, so you can see exactly what my life is like, you won’t be able to sit in on any meetings or anything, but you will see a large part of what I do. On the second day you will wear that bracelet with my warder Cairma, and she will teach what it means to be a Green Gaidar. Dulcinea, may I ask you why you feel that way about the Greens.”
