This is the Mat story we all need.

Unfortunately, these are exactly the "cool" sort of scenes I cherished and was looking forward to seeing, but which I have absolutely zero faith in their ability to deliver them properly (or even at all).

Rubbish, pause the trailer at the 1 second mark and you can clearly see the massive differences between the shots. There is no way those 2 shots are at the same location.

You can argue that the other shot is better if you want but I will heavily disagree with you and I don't see the problem with giving the book fans an iconic shot to get excited about.

First of all, a poster is not just a still shot from some portion of the video footage. It is a different media and serves a different purpose. But let's set that aside.

Your original complaint was that the poster,

the fans to see He who comes with the dawn.

This is exactly what the poster depicts. Rand is walking away from Rhuidean. We know this from the ritual spears which are thrust into the ground at the top of the ridge line above the city. In the poster, Rand has crested the hill with Moiraine in his arms and walks toward the viewer. His strength, purpose, and concern is evident in the way he carries her - like a loving father bringing a sleeping child to bed.

The sun is rising behind Rand. The way the light bisects the frame just above Rand's foot along with the puff of dust just underneath it gives the impression that Rand is literally brining the morning sun with him as he walks. It is a pretty spot on depiction of "He Who Comes With the Dawn".

Consider also that Rand is in a different place in the tv series than in the show. In the show he does not have Callandor and has not yet accepted himself as the Dragon Reborn. This season is where he will take his power. So this poster is also evocative of Rand's journey from protected to protector, weak to strong, unsure to confident.

So what you really seem to be upset with is that the image doesn't contain the city of Rhuidean or the gathered Aiel chiefs. That's fair, I can envision a cool image that contains those elements, we probably get one in the show itself.

It looks like you and I agree that they chose the correct moment for the poster though. So that's something!

There is not one item in the poster that is a direct link to Rhuidean.

Everything you suggest is pure conjecture. You cannot even be sure that it is not evening rather than dawn in the poster or the trailer for that matter. IMO the shot from the trailer looks more likely to be the arrival at Rhuidean meaning the time could be either morning or evening.

The ground in both shots is also completely different one is a desert the other is hard and rocky. Any attempt to state that those 2 locations are the same place is simply a fantasy that you are building in your own mind.

Yes i am aware that the poster can be entirely different media and i would posit that we will never actually see the poster shot as an exact scene in the series. The wide open scene with a circle of spears apparently in the middle of nowhere seems a highly unlikely in show shot.

Rand didn't carry Moiraine out of Rhuidean.  Rand and Matt climbed the cliffs of Chaendaer back to the camp.  They were trying to get there before the sun finished rising to avoid the heat.  They were confronted by Couladin at the edge of the camp.  They arrived at the camp at dawn but left the city before dawn.

So, I am not sure why you are expecting them to show Rand carrying Moiraine out of the city.  Non-book readers would have no clue why he is walking out of a fog and book readers would exclaim that it doesn't fit the book.  The poster at least gives a reference to the teaser opening and vice versa.

We probably won't get the poster or some of the scenes from the teaser in the show.  Look at the eye catching pool scene with Eggy from season 1 trailer.  In the show?  Nope.
