About Classes & Potential Topics

- fun learning about RL & WoT -

Classes should be no less than 5 posts, and no more than 8. Homework is not mandatory but a final ‘test’ is encouraged. They can be run on their own or treated like an “essay”. There are no word count minimums, but should at least exceed 300 words per lesson. A completed lesson does not require students to meet full point value, as participation is separate. The same lesson may not be taught twice, even by different people, unless the previous lesson exceeds 6 months without a response. Lessons may not be copied and pasted by another person as a new lesson.

Casual Roleplay is encouraged.

Suggested Topics:

  • An Introduction to Sword Forms
  • A History of the Yellow Ajah (or any Ajah/discipline)
  • An interview with _______
  • How to embrace the One Power & other simple Weaves
  • Fire & Water and other blasting Weaves (Accepted Only)
  • Cultures of Randland (Pick 5 different cultures)
  • The Basics of Knitting
  • How to break a Watermelon - Practical uses for the Boken (Manshima Only)
  • (Submit your ideas!)

Current list of Classes:

  • Mentoring Bootcamp (Completion Grants the ability for Mentoring)
  • The very Sooper Sirius Sekrit of Pranking (Completion Grants a license for Pranking)

How do Classes actually work?

Once upon a time, “Classes” were used as part of the raising system, waaa-ay back in the day. We, Novices, sat in with simple lessons and learned about some of the clothing styles of Fal Dara, struggled throughout 5 posts what it means to channel and how to create our first weaves, studied the plants in Randland, and which ones were NOT for eating. Lessons I still have saved in .txt files to this day. Things did shift away from them as we separated from the RP, but not for quite some time and a few forum versions later.

Classes work in both a formal and informal setting. They may be “Roleplay Lite” or about more serious topics where one could learn a skill.

“Lessons” consists of 5-8 posts in a single thread of highlighted topics of learning, with others able to reply to each post within the lesson as a response. It is intended to be “long”, and most lessons are appropriately linked in the first post so they are easy to find.

An example of a “How to Channel!” Class could be:
    Lessons 1-5:

  1. History and Dangers of Channeling (examples of burning out)
  2. Basics of how to touch Saidar
  3. Pushing and Pulling Saidar
  4. Basics of Elements & Separating the Threads
  5. How to weave your first Weave

Further examples can be provided upon request.

What is the difference between Classes, Lectures & Reports?

Let's face it, trying to get a 'Class' off the ground isn't easy when we are low on the activity front. Classes are often in the format of:

  • Lesson 1
    • Student 1 Answers
    • Student 2 Answers
    • Student 3 Answers
      • Lesson 2
        • Student 1 Answers
        • Student 2 Answers
        • Student 3 Answers
          • etc.

A Lecture is set up with all the lessons up front and those that wish to take that class can post after.

  • Lesson 1
  • Lesson 2
  • Lesson 3 (All Lessons posted ahead)
    • Student 1 Answers
    • Student 2 Answers (All student answers are in 1 post, or as completed.)

A Book Report, or Report, is what it says it is. These are free-form personal explorations of a topic that is posted in the Lecture Hall, OR as an Article for the Club or Site Blog.
