All this talk about movies/tv series has got me in the mood

Recommended Posts

I still think the most all the part should be played by unknowns, who can act and match the parts as described in the books.

I'd agree with you if these movies were actually going to be made. But they're not and I have neither the time nor the means to go around and find a bunch of unknown actors. Therefore I have to stick with known ones.

I thought LotR was very well done, though I didn't agree with certain decisions Jackson made. I've watched interviews and listened to the DVD commentarys and I understand the reasoning for why those things were done so I accept them.

Ok, Triple H or Sean Lavesque can actually act pretty well and he wasn't all that bad in his role in Blade 3. You can't immediately discount a wrestler just because "he's a wrestler". Just look at Dwayne Johnson, Grid Iron Gang was a good movie.

Also, i suggested Nicholson because he'd be one of the first to show up. Old whats his name that got nailed in the green mans back yard? Old, terrifying, deformed and so on. Suite Jack right down to the bone with that smile of his.

Actually that's Paul Lavesque and as wrestlers go he isn't that bad an actor but Lan he is not (at least im my opinion).

I agree with you about The Rock he is a bit of an anomaly among wrestlers as he actually can act. Of couse he is the only one ever to permenantly leave wrestling to become a full time actor.

Jack Nicholson as Balthamel? Now why would you take an actor as tallented as Jack Nicholson and give him a role that gets about 5 minutes of screen time and has no lines? That would be a total waste. No, when this movie finally happens I, Leopoled Boothe, am going to play Balthamel. I will gladly put on a latex mask and get housed by a tree just so I can say I was in the movie.

However, if you really want wrestlers in this movie the we can go raid the entire WWE roster and let them all be Trollocs. I'll even let Triple H be Narg.

*snort* Let the Great Khali play Narg. He wouldn't need any makeup.

And I think missing was talking about Aginor, though that's still a very tiny role that you'd never fit all of JACK into. Anyway, keep in mind that, as he fills up on the Eye, Aginor gets progressively younger and fitter. JACK doesn't share his roles.

And even I'm not exactly sold on Billy Bob as Thom, I'm just saying I'm looking more in that area. You know, a bad boy who's past his prime. What's Patrick Swayze up to these days?

Also: Doug Jones for all the random Myrrdraal, and Carel Struycken for Shaidar Haran.

Oh! And when he rescues Moiraine he can say, "Nobody puts Moiraine in a corner." Then there can be a big dance scene. Perfect!

Here's a tentative version of my list. Not all the characters are cast and some are very tentative. Some are cast purely for looks, or just because I want the actor in my movie dammit.

Rand - Heath Ledger (I know he's older than Rand)

Mat - Jake Gyllenhal (too old but he has the right look), Scott Mechlowicz (right look, more age appropriate

Egwene - Mila Kunis

Nynaeve - Kate Winslet

Thom - Ian McKellan (til I think of someone else)

Lan - Hugh Jackman, Daniel Day Lewis

Elayne - Romola Garai

Demandred - Dougray Scott

Sammael - David Wenham

Rhavin - Timothy Dalton

Graendal - Michelle Pfeiffer

Mesaana - Naomi Watts

Moghedien - Gina McKee

Asmodean - Alan Rickman

Aran'gar - Angelina Jolie

Moiraine - Connie Neilsen

Suian - Jennifer Connelly

Leane - Hillary Swank

Cadsuane - Meryl Streep

Myrelle - Sandra Bullock ('cause I want her in my movie)

Elaida - Sigourney Weaver

Verin - Kathy Bates

Sheriam - Gillian Anderson

Alviarin - Cate Blanchette

Liandrin - Melissa George

Geofram Bornhald - Donald Sutherland

Dain Bornhald - Keifer Sutherland

Galad - Orlando Bloom

Morgase - Diane Lane (possibly not pretty enough but I like her)

Berelain - Jennifer Aniston

Tylin - Demi Moore

Gaul - Ethan Hawke

Rhuarc - Stellan Skarsgard

Padan Fain - Willem Defoe, Steve Buscemi

Aram - Hayden Chritensen (he broods, Aram broods, it's a match made in heaven)

Elyas - Mel Gibson

Olver - Freddie Highmore (he's a bit old but he's pretty petite and I think he's a brilliant little actor)

Valan Luca - Johnny Depp

Lini - Shirley MacLaine

Abell Cauthon - Gabriel Byrne

Bran al'Vere - Albert Finney

There. Fire away.

Gina McKee! :D

I'm going to ignore everything I disagree with because of that.

I looked her up on IMDB and she IS Moggy.

But seriously critique away. I want opinions, the list is really very much in flux. Some I won't budge on. Sammael, Verin, Moiraine, Graendal, Asmo, Cadsuane, and Valan Luca I have my heart pretty set on. Rand and Mat I can be influenced on. I don't get cable (I watch TV so rarely when I have it, it's not worth paying for), and I guess I just don't tend to watch many movies with younger actors in them...

Also when I first got into this whole cast list thingy some of these people who are now too old were just the right age...but they're now in my head and they won't get out. So there. :P

Well you already know what I'm going to say on the first name on your list. I think Heath would make a wonderful Galad, though. He's certainly a better actor than Orlando. The difficulty with finding anybody for Rand, Mat, or Perrin, is that most of the actors around the right age that anyone knows of are CW Network talentless loser pretty faces.

I think Mila Kunis might be a little too outright sassy for Egwene. Nynaeve, maybe. Better than Leah Sonewyorkithurts Remini. I always wanted her as Ce'Nedra in a Belgariad movie, I don't mind her in this instead.

The only problem I have with the presence of Depp (whom I'm in love with, don't get me wrong) is that Valan Luca is such a minor role he'd be stifled. Johnny Depp eats any role you put him in for lunch and he will not be overshadowed. You put him in that role and it's not going to matter who's playing Elayne and Nynaeve, because nobody's going to be paying attention to them when they share a scene with him.

Wait a second, I didn't see this one before... Jennifer Aniston as Berelain? Here comes every argument concerning Heath Ledger being too old and then some. Plus, she's ugly. I don't care if I'm the only person on earth who thinks so, she's ugly.

Also, as long as were randomly tossing out people we want in this movie, find me a role for Cary Hiroyuki-Tagawa. The man is awesome.

You got me on that one. I was browsing through IMDB, and ran across her and thought I want her in it. I like her and I think she's cute...never thought about the fact that Berelain is no older than Rand.

Oh well back to the drawing board.

Well, I always like to end on a positive note so I'll start with what I don't like and then work my way up to what I like. Here goes:

What I don't like :(

Rand - Heath Ledger

-Sorry, I've just never been a fan of Ledger and I don't care for his acting style. However, In all fairness he has been cast as The Joker in the up and comming "Batman: Dark Knight" and if he can pull that off then he will be totally redeemed in my eyes and can play Rand any day. But that is a big if.

Nynaeve - Kate Winslet

-No. She's a fine actress but her coloring is all wrong. Her skin it too pale and I can't picture her with dark hair. Besides, I've made it quite clear how strongly I feel about Leah Remini in this role

Rhavin - Timothy Dalton

-Mmmmm maybe 10 years ago but he is getting on in years. I just picture Rhavin being a bit younger.

Graendal - Michelle Pfeiffer

-As much as I'd love to see Pfeiffer in this movie I just don't think Graendal is the right part for her. One of the things I remember about Graen's description is that she is attractive but not ravishing like Lanfear. There's not other way to put it, Michelle is just too hot for this role.

Leane - Hillary Swank

-Nope, can't see it. Besides the way RJ is alway drawing attention to here dark skin and slanted eyes I really think she is meant to be asian.

Elaida - Sigourney Weaver

-Hate to say it but I am about as fond of this idea as I am of Billy Bob Thorton as Thom. Just don't see it.

Sheriam - Gillian Anderson

-Again I would love to see this actress in the movie but this just isn't the right part for her. I get the impression that Sheriam is a full figured gal and Gillian is a petitte little thing.

Berelain - Jennifer Aniston

-Again its a coloring issue. I've always pictured Berelain as Hispanic or maybe Arabic

Elyas - Mel Gibson

-No Way!!! I have short black list of actors I would never accept in this movie under any circumstance and Mel is one in that number. Others include, Tom Cruise, Ben Affleck, Mat Damon and George Clooney.

What I could live with :?

Mat - Jake Gyllenhal

-Not a bad choice but C'mon we can do better than that.

Lan - Daniel Day Lewis

-Sure I supose in the absence of Hugh Jackman he would be an alright choice. But seriously by no means a bad choice.

Sammael - David Wenham

-I don't know I'd have to see him in some other roles besides LOTR before I could commit. As Faramir he seemed too calm and collected. For Sammael I need some who I know can throw a good tantrum.

Verin - Kathy Bates

-She will never be my top choice but still not a bad choice.

Alviarin - Cate Blanchette

-I don't hate this idea but I'm not in love with it either. Certainly would not boycott on her account.

Morgase - Diane Lane

-Sure, I could see it. Morgase doesn't necessarly need to be the prettiest gal in this movie.

Tylin - Demi Moore

-Aw c'mon you're going to demote my Lanfear to a mere Tylin :x Can't say I like that but in all fairness I can't deny she would make a good Tylin.

Gaul - Ethan Hawke

-Sure, why not.

Olver - Freddie Highmore

-Fine pick, but Olver is going to be a problem any way you slice it. This is a 12 book series that is suposed to take place in 3-4 years. Any Olver is going to age too quickly. Multiple actors may be necessary but if you want to stick with one best to start too young rather than too old.

What I like :D

Matt- Scott Mechlowicz

-I'll admit it your pick is better than mine. My one concernt with Josh Holloway was his age and this resolves that issue. Well Done!!!

Elayne - Romola Garai

-As you know I'm thirstin' for Kirsten in this role but I can't complain about this either.

Demandred - Dougray Scott

-Well Done!!! I never would have thought of this myself. I must say it is inspired.

Mesaana - Naomi Watts

-I'd still perfer Gates McFadden but I can't deny that this would be a great choice as well.

Moghedien - Gina McKee

-For sure!!! Excellent choice Reyler and Beckon you are wise to agree.

Moiraine - Connie Neilsen

-Dang it Beckon, now I have to come up with a new role for Emma Thompson! As much as I love Emma I have to admit that you have bested me on this one too. A++ on this one.

Suian - Jennifer Connelly

-I can't deny it, I am in love with this idea. Almost makes me want to cast David Bowie as Garath Bryne but that is a big almost.

Cadsuane - Meryl Streep

-I am loving this idea more an more.

Myrelle - Sandra Bullock

-Yes!! I want her in this movie too. She'd be great a Myrelle and I could also see her as Alanna.

Liandrin - Melissa George

-I still perfer Protia deRosi but I could wouldn't complain about Melissa either. Good choice.

Geofram Bornhald - Donald Sutherland

Dain Bornhald - Keifer Sutherland

-LOVE IT!!!!! My hat's off to you on this one.

Galad - Orlando Bloom

-An fine choice for either Gawyn or Galad.

Rhuarc - Stellan Skarsgard

-Sure. He's a hard one to cast and this is as good as any I've seen. Better than most.

Padan Fain - Willem Defoe, Steve Buscemi

-Either would be an excellent choice.

Aram - Hayden Chritensen

-Yah, there was a time when I thought Christinsen for Rand, but this would be much more appropriate.

Valan Luca - Johnny Depp

-I love it!. I can totally see him hitting on Nynaeve with a touch of the Jack Sparrow style.

Lini - Shirley MacLaine

-Can't argue with this

Abell Cauthon - Gabriel Byrne

-I think you nailed it!! This is exactlly what I'v alwyas pictured Abell looking like.

Bran al'Vere - Albert Finney

-Good choice for the role but he would need to put on a few pounds. I always pictured Bran being bald but makeup could take care of that.

Then of couse the rest match my picks so naturally I like them:

Egwene - Mila Kunis

Thom - Ian McKellan (still pretty commited to this)

Lan - Hugh Jackman,

Asmodean - Alan Rickman

Aran'gar - Angelina Jolie

All in all a very good cast list, Beckon. I definitly liked more about it than I disliked.

Very good point. Though I am starting the think that Depp might make a good Logain or Taim.

Taim, then. Logain at least is supposed to be physically intimidating. Depp is about as imposing as a bunny. Though I'm not sure I'd want him in such a humorless role as Taim.

Actually I'd been thinking about roles that David Bowie could play, and about the only one I could come up with is Fain. You're still not moving me off Jennifer Connelly as Lanfear.

Why waste Shirley Maclaine on such a minor role as Lini? Maybe she should be Cadsuane! :D

Also: Myrelle - Idina Menzel. Rawr.

Leane - Hillary Swank

-Nope' date=' can't see it. Besides the way RJ is alway drawing attention to here dark skin and slanted eyes I really think she is meant to be asian.

I wasn't aware that Leane had slanted eyes, dark skin, yes, but slanted eyes... I think thats more of a Saldean than Domani trait.

Leopolde -

Demi Moore has never struck me as the most beautiful woman in the world, but I thought he was a good choice for Tylin. Stole it from some other cast list to be honest.

Jennifer Aniston was a booboo...I have to reconsider Berelain.

I still prefer Kate for Nynaeve. She is a tad fair complected for Two Rivers folk but I think she has the right combination of comedic and serious acting ability.

Michelle Pfeiffer has always been my choice for Graendal and I'm stickin with it. I picture her as Cat Woman in Batman Returns and thzat persona just screams Graendal to me.

I'm sticking with Mel for Elyas as well, though I agree with the rest of your "under no circumstances" list. I like Mel, I've been hopelessly in love with him since I first saw Mad Max.

Depp could be Taim I spose, Johnny can certainly do insolent. Not Logain though he's sposed to be a big broad shouldered guy which Johnny is not. He's definitely got the personality he's just not what I picture for Logain. I put him as Luca because it's the most flamboyant role outside of Thom. His overwhelming nature is a moot point for me because I'd have eyes for nobody else no matter what roll he played. :insert drooling smiley here:

I also thought of Sandy Bullock for Alanna and teetered between the two for a while. In the end I was swayed by the scene where Myrelle, Suian, Egwene, and Gareth are riding together to meet Lan for the first time since Moiraine's disappearance. Myrelle starts out all nervous and then Egwene notes she regains some of her humor from watching Suian ride. I pictured Sandy on a horse smirking at Suian behind her back and it was all over.

reyler -

I wouldn't be opposed to Jennifer Connelly as Lanfear...but I do so love her for Suian.

Shirley MacLaine was one of those "she must be in my movie" people. I thought about Cadsuane and while I take a certain malicious pleasure in the thought I must concede that Streep is a better artistic choice. Cadsuane is far too...composed...all the time. I don't want composed Shirley MacLaine. Not that Lini is what you'd call manic but I thought Shirley could put a humorous twist on all Lini's little sayings without it damaging my credibility as a movie producer. :P

Jonn -

I dig Gary Oldman for Thom, though it seems odd at first.

Almost makes me want to cast David Bowie as Garath Bryne but that is a big almost.

Bowie looks like the piccy of Bryne in the BWB.

Oh and I'm toying with the idea of Ben Kingsley for Thom...though I'm still intrigued by Gary Oldman. I will have a closer look at him.

I don't feel Jennifer Connelly as Suian, and here's why. I can't picture Jennifer Connelly in even the most extreme fits of pique throwing out earthy threats and ranting about fish. She's too much of a lady.

I'm not quite sure I can picture anyone ranting about fish. Not with a straight face anyway.

Shoot man, I can hardly even handle Suian herself ranting about fish. The first time she used the term "Fish Gutts!" I litterally dropped the book and fell on the floor laughing. No, I'm afraid that bit it going to be tounge in cheek no matter who plays the role.
