Cities for Life

Recommended Posts

Hi, everybody!

I just decided to recreate this topic. I think it had some interesting things in it and deserves reincarnation ☺️

I’ll post here some interesting decisions that make cities more comfortable, friendly and fun ☺️
The city where people spend time in the streets is the safe city after all.

Everybody’s welcome to join, discuss and post whatever you find interesting on the topic ?

One make sure there is minimal amount of dark corners and back alleys..if people can see there is less likelyhood of problems

I live in Moscow so I’m very selfish in my interest in making it comfortable.

We have long and dark Winter here so I’m looking for some decisions to brighten it up (it tends to come true even if you just talk about it).

Something I’ve found:

Pushing giant luminous and musical dominos so they fall in cascade.

Musical light-up seesaws. ☺️

I absolutely agree ☺️
But then there is a question of people present even at the light wide streets.

And I remember you asked why they don’t build roofs above the stairs to the metro stations here as the stairs are probably very slippery in Winter.

and ta-dam!

Can you believe they’ve begun building roofs/pavilions!

I loved this thread; it was one of my all-time favorite threads! We probably could have moved it over from the old board and just added to it, but a new one is fine, too.

My city hasn't added anything awesome lately, so I have nothing to contribute from home, but when I went to Montreal last year, I really liked their subway system. They have pretty much an entire city underground, so that you can do all your shopping and stuff without venturing out into frigid Canadian blizzards. It reminded me of Mole Town in A Song of Ice and Fire. ?

I went to San Antonio in October, and they have a beautiful Riverwalk filled with shops and restaurants and whatnot. I even saw a wedding as I was strolling along.

We had something vaguely similar in Cape Town! We don't have a subway, but the station is under cover and morphs into a shopping mall which goes underground too. It used to be wonderful to stroll around there, do shopping, eat at restaurants, etc. Sadly it's become ghetto like and completely unsafe.

Yikes! It's like we can't have anything nice without thugs ruining it for everyone.

Sad but often true! But then there are other places and people who surprise you wonderfully.

I went to Basel in Switzerland to visit a friend recently and although I'm a bit hazy on the details it appears that sex workers are legal there with some restrictions on where they can work and stand to attract to customer etc.

Hilariously marked by this road sign

I think that's just brilliant! And amusing 🙂

It seems only right that the industry should be legal. Either that, or also charge the users, not just the suppliers.

Completely agree Elgee! Why not make the industry legal and have little fun with your street signs in the process 😂
