Dar'Jen Ab Owain - Member Share Posted January 17 Sending tea and soup your way, Lily. Praying you are feeling better soon. Will be interested in hearing about your class when you are feeling better.
LilyElizabeth - Club Leader Author Share Posted January 18 Today is the first day I've done anything other than work and sleep. I think I'm getting over this finally. I took a COVID test and it came back negative, but I'm not convinced. I think it may have been a false negative. Anyway, about the class. So far, it's been pretty boring. We've been covering the history of Asian immigration to the US and (the not so boring part) Asian attitudes towards how to be a "good Asian girl or boy" growing up. Did you know that Asian girls in many cultures aren't allowed to associate with males other than their father? Many men view Asian girls as desirable, so it's for their protection, or so the story goes.

LilyElizabeth - Club Leader Author Share Posted January 24 Thank you, DJ. *grabs some tea, too* The flu is finally starting to go away.
Ryrin - Club Leader Share Posted January 26 That’s good news! It was really cold here last night.

Dar'Jen Ab Owain - Member Share Posted January 29 We got snow. And it's icy out too. Good thing we are on-line school and work from home. But I still got a call at 5:30 this morning to tell me it was a snow day for my son's school.

LilyElizabeth - Club Leader Author Share Posted January 30 On Tuesday, most of the state of Arizona got some snow. We didn't, but the town that I used to live in did, and it's not much different in elevation. There is still snow on the mountains.
Dar'Jen Ab Owain - Member Share Posted January 30 This year parents could choose in person or on-line. We went with in-line. If number of cases are too high, then school goes "remote" for those who chose in person. I'm just hoping next year is better.
LilyElizabeth - Club Leader Author Share Posted January 30 You all asked about what I am learning. A good chunk of what has been discussed lately is the emasculation of Asian men. Our culture doesn't view them as virile and attractive. At least according to my class.
LilyElizabeth - Club Leader Author Share Posted January 31 Oh! I didn't tell you. I'm finally over the flu. It took 3 weeks to pass.
Dar'Jen Ab Owain - Member Share Posted January 31 Not attractive? Your class is making me suspicious now, but various perspectives are important. So happy to hear the flu has passed. I know when I had it last year I'd never been so sick in my life. (Sets out tea.) Hoping for everyone to feel better and stay well.
LilyElizabeth - Club Leader Author Share Posted February 1 My class also discussed Asian American men in the porn industry, but I didn't read that article. There isn't time to read it all and, honestly, I couldn't care less about porn. But, clearly, they aren't considered unattractive by all of society or they wouldn't be in the porn industry at all, would they?
Dar'Jen Ab Owain - Member Share Posted February 2 Would that be a paradox? Overall, I hope you are learning something from the class. Work was long. And it's Monday. And it's snowing. (Sips some tea.)
LilyElizabeth - Club Leader Author Share Posted February 7 And now we're studying mail-order brides. We just finished studying women's roles in Asian families. Many Asian families try to stick to old-country ways. That was really interesting.

They plan to get married next year. I can tell you that she is not traditional in her relationship with my son. They share household duties. She’s a professional and educated working woman. I believe she will be traditional in many ways in the raising of children. They will do well in school. Lol. I see her leading there. She’s also very close to her family. I really enjoyed her parents. Edited Saturday at 05:04 AM by Ryrin
LilyElizabeth - Club Leader Author Share Posted yesterday at 02:30 AM I'm glad your son is so happy with her! I'm done with the class. I wrote the final paper (8 pages) in one day! I'm learning to crank them out! lol
