DRAGONMOUNT

A WHEEL OF TIME COMMUNITY

Hello from another new yet old person, sort of

Recommended Posts

I posted here a few times ages and ages ago (probably four Third Ages ago it seems at this point), back when the other Wheel of Time forum site was still wotmania.com (before the refugee situation and the diaspora that saw many come here and others of us go to the then newly created readandfindout.com). Yeah, I posted under another name (not sure anymore what name I used, I have had so many online over the decades, same with email addresses).

I've been reading and posting about WoT since the summer of 1991 (the year I graduated High School if you can believe that!). Remember those days when we thought for sure Mazrim Taim was Demandred? And that Bela killed Asmo? Well, maybe not that second one (though I am sure someone out there with a tinfoil hat on considered the idea). I was never really that active here, maybe a few dozen posts, as wotmania had been my first WoT forum (after rawsfr-j at least), and RAFO dot com felt and looked more like home to me. So I never got to know anyone around here, and I am pretty danged sure nobody around here knew me (even if I recalled what name I posted under here), unless they knew me by the names I posted at the others sites as (no, not sharing those, personal reasons, let's just say I am not the same person I used to be and leave it at that).

I'm glad to talk anything geek related, whether it's WoT or not. That includes science as well as science fiction. And I'm a bit of a history nut (preferably ancient history, though I am expanding my horizons). Only thing I am unwilling to talk about is politics, please for the love of the Light, don't try to engage me in real world politics. I haven't explored the "new" (to me) version of DM fully yet, so I don't even know if there is such an area for that type of discussion, but if so I'll be doing my best to stay away from it. I've had to cut that and normal news out of my life for the sake of my mental health and blood pressure the last few years. I now focus on entertainment and science news. Much safer (at least until Disney pisses off half the internet with their Ariel casting... nooooo!!!! Geeky stay away from that!).

I welcome, nay, encourage people to check out my profile (a much more extensive and longer introduction to myself there). Fair warning: I am a wordy muther effer. And I do sometimes have a bit of a potty mouth: I use a$$ and $hit a lot (I "masked" those since I don't know if I can get away with them yet, though I think I used them in the "About Me" on my profile), but I don't drop F-bombs, I harken back to Battlestar Galactica and just go FRAK.

Anyway, I hope whoever might read this finds themselves having a great day/evening. Hope to make some new acquaintances in the near future, though I'm honestly not sure how often I'll be reading/posting as I have a series YouTube addiction (there is so much science and history content to be found there nowadays! not to mention all the entertainment news I follow there like Collider Video, Daniel Greene and Nae'blis) plus the telly shows I am currently watching. And whatever I am trying to read at the time. Always so busy with something.

Namaste

Well hello there ?

I think for now I'll avoid your profile, so as not to shock my delicate sensibilities - we're ... ahem ... pg13 here. (Though to be perfectly honest with you, it's been so many years since I was 13, I don't really have a clue what it means. I just nod and smile at the PtBs.)

Aaaanyhoo ... welcome (back) to DM! You're welcome to avoid the high-blood pressure inducing stuff by bypassing the discussion boards and heading over to the Social Side. The White Tower & Warders in particular. The Whites & Browns will just love you! And the Reds will love your blood.

Thank you Elgee, looking forward to getting back into the swing of things; it's been ages since I did the whole "forum thing." (Oh, and it was only one "s-bomb" and "a-bomb" I think LOL, I'll try to keep them toned down as much as possible, even though they are PG-13 by definition; technically, yeah I'm one of those smart-arses, PG-13 actually even allows for one F-bomb per film, but I don't think I'll be trying for that per post LOL). If the Admin Team wants me to edit my profile, I'll go in and fix it.

For now though, I'm just going to satisfy myself with learning how to navigate this site all over again, it is so different than I remember from all those years ago. I keep getting various formats of viewing showing up, and not sure yet how to control that. But I'll figure it out soon enough.

Have a great day, or evening in your case.

Well, totally without intending to I ran across another set of guidelines for this site, this one including rules on language, so I editted out the s-bomb and a-bombs from my profile (well, editted them so they weren't actually saying those words). I don't actually recall if arse or crap were ever used in the books (I haven't reread the series since A Memory of Light came out, so my memory is a bit opaque on that), but since you can say those on regular telly here in the states (and we even could say it in my school when I was still in high school), I figure I am safe with those (at least I hope... admins, do I need to edit again?? I will if you ask/tell me to).

Not sure if Jason (I assume he still runs the show around here, right?) will change the language rules once the Amazon show starts, since I am pretty convinced Rafe & Co will not be sticking with just the curse words RJ came up with for the series. Sure, it gives a veneer of being child friendly, but when you couple it with the graphic violence and the extensive nudity it really doesn't make much sense. G-Rated "foul"-language on a show that has full frontal nudity and graphically exploding bodies, dismembered body parts in cook pots and a pile of dimembered body parts just chilling in a study? Doesn't seem to fit. So I believe that Rafe will probably incorporate real world cursing, while still using some of the language that RJ used in place of it. And that would make keeping said language completely out of posts a little silly. Mind you, I have no issue not using the F-word (like I said, I tend to say frak, even in daily life), but leaving out the product of defecation, and where on the body it comes from, well...

But until then, the admins rule.

  • RP - LEGACY

Welcome to DM. Or back, as the case may be. Regardless, feel free to wander and explore. The Social Side of things are safer than the Discussion Boards, if you are trying to avoid rising blood pressure.

There are a lot of great folks around, so feel free to explore and ask questions.

Yah we're pretty chill these days. And if an Admin or Mod thinks things might have teetered over the line they'll most likely just send you a message to say so.

Shout if you need help with navigating! I'll send one of the Novices to help you *grins*

Nice to meet you, Geeky. Don't fret overly much. I come from the Billy Connolly school of cursing myself, although I keep it well hidden on the boards lol. Crap and arse are fine to use as far as I'm concerned.

We're (the Admins that is) not in the habit of being unreasonable over language. People oops now and then, we're only human. Most try to stick to milder language or substitute Randland speak. It'd have to fairly in your face for one of us to step in and, as Elgee mentioned, we'd drop you a message and possibly edit/delete the post depending on circumstances. There are no current plans that I'm aware of to change the rules of the forum regarding this but who knows what the future holds.

Yes, Jason still runs the show, along with Jennifer (whom you may know better as Kathana). They're co-owners now and have been for several years.

Hope you'll enjoy using the boards here whether you like to RP or prefer to socialise, there are plenty of options.

Oi! That could almost make Uno blush! LOL!

And good to meet you as well Taymist. What in the world are all those Scrabble letters under your name representing? RP Admin is obvious of course, and Brotherhood of the Red Hand, but the rest... "(SG)" and "DRPSW" ??

 Ha ha. We do like our letters around here. DR PSW is Dragon Reborn Portal Stone World, the name of our world for Role Playing in. We use a PSW to prevent any issues with contravening copyright. You may recall Rand and Selene's excursion into a Portal Stone World in the books.

BotRH is Band of the Red Hand, one of our Social Groups (SG's). SG is used to differentiate from Role Play Groups (RPG's).

Hey all, this is the gent formerly/temporarily known as Geeky Hippie. I had given up hope on this account being unlocked after seven years of disuse, but today I finally heard back from Jason and we got things worked out so that I could log back in to it. So the account I had created to replace it (Geeky) is not needed. Thanks for the greetings all! I'm just glad to have my "online name" back (imlad is short for imladolen, or actually now I use imladenol; it's my admittedly bad attempt at translating my given name of Glenn into Tolkien's Elven language back when I was 15 or 16, but I keep switching the last two syllables around). So while you won't be seeing post from "Geeky Hippie" you will be seeing them from me.

Now, someone hand me a light...

Thanks Dar'Jen and Taymist! I'm also happy there are no restrictions on having multiple handles (some sites do that oddly enough), I've gotten in trouble at one for that, not having known it was a violation of their rules (it was seriously buried in their Terms of Service).

I'll have more time to do some posting this weekend hopefully. See y'all then.

Sorry if that was confusing, my other handle is on other sites, not this one. I'm only ever Tay here.

You're definitely not allowed multiple handles or multiple accounts here on DM. We're allowed name changes, if there's a good reason for it but it has to be Admin approved. If someone has two accounts for some reason, such as not being able to access an old account, they choose which one to keep and the accounts get merged or one gets deleted so they only have one handle.

Hi Imlad ?

I also started reading The Wheel of Time in 1991 the year I finished High School. I, like you, wandered over here after wotmania ceased to be & I strolled back into the fold recently looking for some WoT chat once again. Exciting times to be a WoT fan!
