WoT Casting - S..t just got real: Lanfear, Mogs & Semi

Recommended Posts

Right, according to sources, the WoT TV Series might finally be happening. That means only one thing: sh.t just got real in the "who I want as actor to play [x] character" debate!

To that end, I will be starting a series of threads in which you can post your pictures of actors whom you think will be best able to portray the characters.

There will be rules!

1) Post a picture of your choice, with their name.

2) Pick people who actually are actors (they don't need to be famous) or at a pinch models, who you think could act, and the right age right NOW.

3) Pick people who roughly resemble the description of the characters (I'll post what descriptions there are). Obviously you don't have to be pedantic, but it's got to be realistic. Aiel aren't generally short and dark. Seafolk are generally very dark skinned. Egwene is a teenager, so someone in their 30's or 40's isn't going to work.

4) No biting, kicking or scratching. Channeling and stabbing is allowed, though.

This post will be copied and pasted to each new thread I make, cos I'm lazy.

Though I'm going to try and keep it in the order of appearance (roughly), I'd like to add a little spice here and there, so I'm introducing some Forsaken :)

Grouped together roughly for order of appearance, but also later interaction, we have Lanfear, Moghedien & Semirhage.

Description of Lanfear / Mierin Eronaile

Quote

Lanfear (LAN-feer; Old Tongue: Daughter of the Night), formerly known as Mierin Eronaile, was one of the thirteen Forsaken trapped at Shayol Ghul due to the Dragon's sealing.

Lanfear's most noted physical characteristic was her astonishing beauty - she was said on multiple occasions to be one of the most beautiful women who had ever lived. Rahvin said that her presence was enough to make Graendal look only 'plumply pretty',[1] and Graendal herself was accounted an incredibly beautiful woman. She was also stated by Rand al'Thor to have made any of the three women he loved, Elayne Trakand, Elmindreda Farshaw, and Aviendha, appear almost ordinary. She was quite tall, a little more than a hand shorter than Rand al'Thor, and had smooth, ivory-pale skin with long black hair and black eyes. She typically wore a white dress, divided for riding, with a silver belt. Her boots also had silver worked onto them.[2][3]

(She) has a husky, melodious voice.

We also know that Lannie was batsh*t, moon-howling insane.

Lanfear is probably the ultimate femme fatale,  so the person who plays her has to be strikingly and uniquely beautiful, not to be mistaken for any other pretty or even beautiful woman in the series. She also has to play crazy and dangerous.

Description of Moghedien / Lilen Moiral:

According to Encyclopedia WoT:

Quote

She is sturdily handsome with shoulder-length hair worn loose. She has large, dark eyes and smooth cheeks.

Description of Semirhage / Nemene Damendar Boann:

ka: Nemene Damendar Boann, Anath

One of the Forsaken. Her real name was Nemene Damendar Boann. She masquerades as Anath Dorje, Truthspeaker to the Daughter of the Nine Moons.

According to Encyclopedia WoT:

Quote

She is taller than most men, with a smooth dark face and dark eyes. She has long, slender fingers. (LoC,Prologue) She is slender and very tall. Her charcoal black face is beautiful and she has large black eyes and full lips. (WH,Ch14) She has short, wavy hair. (WH,Ch17)

And http://wot.wikia.com/wiki/Semirhage:

Quote

She was slender and taller than most men (6'1 1/2), yet proportioned such that her height was not striking when she did not stand next to other people. She had a beautiful charcoal-black face with large black eyes and full lips. She had short wavy hair. She was believed by the other Forsaken to have always dressed in black because Lanfear always dressed in white, though none of them were ever willing to say it directly to her. Cadsuane Melaidhrin described her as having a "willowy" build.

Angelina Jolie will always be my Lanfear based purely on looks (no-one could ever mistake her for anyone else), but to be honest she's slightly too old now. I'm not convinced about her acting abilities either. So here's my offer:

Deepika Padukone is an Indian film actress. One of the highest-paid actresses in India, Padukone is the recipient of several awards, including three Filmfare Awards. Wikipedia

Born: 5 January 1986 (age 32 years), Copenhagen, Denmark
Height: 1,76 m

Moghedien:

Since there's actually very little said about her looks, I'm going to for once deviate a bit in order to propose an actress whom I think could do justice to the Spider - Eva Green.

Eva Green is a French actress. According to Wikipedia, Green started her career in theatre before making her film debut in 2003 in Bernardo Bertolucci's film The Dreamers. She achieved international recognition when she appeared as Sibylla, Queen of Jerusalem in Ridley Scott's historical epic Kingdom of Heaven (2005), and portrayed Bond girl Vesper Lynd in the James Bond film Casino Royale (2006). In 2006, Green was awarded the BAFTA Rising Star Award.

Since 2006, Green has starred in independent films Cracks (2009), Womb (2010), and Perfect Sense (2011). She has also appeared in the television series Camelot (2011), and played Angelique Bouchard in Tim Burton's big-screen adaptation of Dark Shadows (2012). In 2014, she played Artemisia in the 300 sequel, 300: Rise of an Empire (2014), and Ava Lord in Frank Miller's and Robert Rodriguez's Sin City sequel, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014). She also starred as Vanessa Ives in Showtime's horror drama Penny Dreadful (2014–2016). Her performance in the series earned her a nomination for Best Actress in a Television Series – Drama at the 73rd Golden Globe Awards.

I'm a little bit torn about this choice, though, as I think she'd make a really excellent Elaida too.  Well, let's see if someone else comes up with a better choice, but for now here's Eva:

Semirhage:

Can't think of anyone other than Naomi Campbell. I imagine there are quite a few ex-staffers of hers who'd love to see her get a Cadsuane spanking :P

I would like to add another lady to the list to play Lanfear. She might not be exactly as described in the books, but the most important about Lanfear's looks is that she must be uniquely and stunningly beautiful. Someone a bit exotic looking would help to make her and the other Forsaken stand apart from the "usual" WoT characters too, which is why I picked the above ones. Here is who I think could also play Lanfear:

Elarica Johnson is an English actress and model. She played Kylie in EastEnders and the waitress at Surbiton Station in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. She played Lula Landry in the 2017 TV series Strike, later adapted for the US on Cinemax as C.B. Strike based on the novel Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith (J.K. Rowling). Her latest starring role is in A Discovery Of Witches playing the role of Juliette Durand. Wikipedia

Born: 21 August 1989 (age 29 years), London, United Kingdom
Nationality: British

Late to the party Mother, however!

I would love to see someone like Lily Collins (Phill Collins daughter - an actress) play Lanfear, I think she has a deceptively innocent look ? but strong enough features she could turn dark (born in 89....as the best people are...no hint as to my birthday there obviously lol) and so I think early 30s would be a good age to play an immortal.

Lily Collins

Kiki layne is a potential as semi, but sure I seen others too so will look about some

kiki-layne-2019-film-independent-spirit-

According to BWB she "could appear quite forbidding, or motherly and gentle"

So want someone who can pull off both those looks

I agree with Eva Green, she's phenomenal and I think she'd make a brilliant Moggy.

I also like Lily Collins. She could pull off Lanfear for sure.

I don't like Elarica but I think that's because of her role in A Discovery of Witches rather than her as an actress. Nothing was ever as satisfying as Diana taking her out. I may have cheered.

I rather like Pheobe Tonkin from watching her in The Originals. She'd be good for Lanfear or Moggy as well.
