The Way of Kings

Recommended Posts

So, yeah, I had a working system. Posted it. Next morning, some random person randomly throws out "what if the Orders of the Knights Radiant can be divided into three groups?" (in an unrelated thread, it should be noted)

I think about it for a few minutes. I have a good look at my explanation for Surgebinding. Yup. They can. And I made some mistakes. *goes off to work on the system some more*

You're like a Sanderson super fan.

I started Way of Kings for the reread. I will be pressed to get them both done in time for Oathbreaker. I might have to listen outside of work in order to get them done, but that's okay.

My parents got Oathbringer two weeks early... Originally, I wasn't really planning on visiting them this weekend.

Now, I'm going there as soon as I can. Let's see if I can read the whole book in one weekend (though otherwise I'm taking it with me, kidnapping it if needed).

Also, the Theory of Identity is my first own Cosmere theory (except my within-one-day-outdated Surgebinding theory). Now working on a revisitation of Surgebinding, though I'm also kinda trying to hold off on it as I saw someone reference to "every Surge being part of a pair" and I want to know why he considers them such.

Ahhhhhhhhhh one week until Oathbringer!

I just finished the end of Part 1 via the preview chapters on Tor.com...

So. Excited.

Your theory is over my head, Leyrann, but good luck with it!

I have no hope of finishing my reread before Oathbringer comes out. I am only on part two of Way of Kings.

Mwahaha we got it early. I've already read it. It's the best book I've ever read, no book even comes close. That includes A Memory of Light.

Well, I finished it in under a week (had to actually go to work and be a responsible adult for most of that time).

There was one particular point that had me literally sit up straight and exclaim aloud "OH $@#% YEAH!!!!!!"

Great book.  I had to pop onto 17th Shard for the first time in about 4 years to lurk in some of the discussion threads.  And then proceeded to do a full reread of all 3 Stormlight Archive books.  And then start back at Mistborn 1 just for grins.  I wanted to read Bands of Mourning before I get to Arcanum Unbounded (because I was told there would be spoilers).

You are on the 17th Shard? What's your username?

By the way, I wrote this post-Oathbringer scene that people might like. Contains Oathbringer spoilers (obviously):

Songstress.  (Same as it is here, although with the DM9 update my display name changed, as did several others.)  I posted there last in January of 2012.  Guess I can't manage to stay active on more than one forum at a time.

That explains why I didn't see you around... Did you see me though? I was quite active, mostly the two weeks after release.

Also I'm gonna try to balance three forums now. :)

Oh absolutely.  As soon as I hopped on the Oathbringer spoiler forum, I spotted you.

I've been lurking quietly, reading a lot but not comfortable offering opinions just now.

I may start posting there again after I finish my Mistborn series reread + Bands of Mourning + Arcanum though.  Maybe.

I have way too many books to read right now.

All 3 of the Stormlight Archive, all 6 of the Mistborn books, and 3 more in the Death Gate cycle by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman.

Just found my favorite line in "The Way of Kings" right now: page  275 in the paperback version "Sadeas flushed, but kept his temper. 'A whore joke, Wit? Is that the best you can manage?' Wit shrugged. ' I point out truths when I see them, Bright-lord Sadeas. Each man has his place. Mine is to make insults. Yours is to be in-sluts.'"

I laughed out loud when I read this.

Oathbringer was outstanding! I thought it drug for quite awhile once they

went to Kholinar,

but it wasn't that bad, and the ending was epic. I can't wait for the next one!

Don't know if I did the spoilers right.

What I wanted to happen in Words of Radiance actually did. Kaladin fought Szeth.

    • Danai Gurira would work for me as Semhirage.
    • My pick for Gareth Bryne is David Boreanaz:   David Boreanaz (/ˌbɔːriˈɑːnəz/;[1] born May 16, 1969) is an American actor, television producer, and director, known for playing the roles of vampire-turned-private investigator Angel on Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997–2003) and its spinoff Angel (1999–2004); FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth on the television crime procedural comedy-drama series Bones (2005–2017); and Jason Hayes in the military drama series SEAL Team.
    • Bayle Domon is an intelligent man who acts gruff, but seems to have a heart of gold. Though it states that he is a broad, muscular man with a round face, his appearance to a degree is less integral than the character, IMO. He makes me think of a snugly teddy bear who could kill if need be.   At the moment my heart is quite set on Jeffrey Dean Morgan:   Jeffrey Dean Morgan (born April 22, 1966) is an American actor. He is known for his roles as John Winchester on the fantasy horror series Supernatural (2005–07, 2019), Denny Duquette on the medical drama series Grey's Anatomy (2006–09), The Comedian in the superhero film Watchmen (2009), Jason Crouse on the political drama series The Good Wife (2015–16), Negan on the horror drama series The Walking Dead (2016–present), and Harvey Russell in Rampage (2018).
    • Tam al'Thor doesn't actually appear in the series except the first chapter or 2, a bit in the middle, and then towards the end again. Much is made of his fighting skills, but it's not shown very often. As such, I don't think it's necessary to get someone known for those skills to be the actor. Obviously if one can be found, wonderful.   I've not really made up my mind about an actor, but I have this offering:   Billy Burke: William Albert Burke (born November 25, 1966) is an American actor. He is known for his role as Charlie Swan in Twilight and its sequels. In 2011, he played Cesaire in Red Riding Hood. In 2012, he was cast as one of the lead characters, Miles Matheson, in the NBC science-fiction series Revolution. From 2015 to 2017, he starred in the CBS series Zoo. He has also appeared in the supernatural horror film Lights Out (2016) and the thriller Breaking In (2018).   He's done quite well at playing the solid, supporting father. He's not bad on the eye either. He can bulk up if need be.
