Tainted Minds Setup

2 Sane Town Cops
1 Insane Town Cop
7 Vanilla Town

2 Mafia Framers
1 Mafia Traitor

The Town Cops will not be aware of their sanity. Upon death they will only be revealed as Cop. They will each receive a N0 investigation of their choice. The Mafia will have a N0 frame of their choice. The Traitor will know who the Framers are and can only be recruited if they are killed by the Mafia, at which point they will become a Goon and join the Mafia chat. So long as they remain a Traitor investigations on them will show as "innocent". They can only win with the Mafia. In the event that both Framers are killed and the Traitor has not been recruited, they will perish with the rest of the Mafia team.

Sample Role PMs

Town Cop

Congratulations! You are a Town Cop. Each Night you may submit a name to investigate. Your results will return as "Innocent" or "Guilty". You win after all threats to the Town have been eliminated. Good luck!

Vanilla Town

Congratulations! You are a Vanilla Town. Your voice and your vote are your only powers. You win after all threats to the Town have been eliminated. Good luck!

Mafia Framer

Congratulations! You are a Mafia Framer. Your partner is (name). You may communicate privately at any time using this QT (link). Each Night you will submit a name to kill, and also a name to frame. You win when your team has gained parity or there is nothing left to prevent this. Good luck!

Mafia Traitor

Congratulations! You are a Mafia Traitor. Players (name) and (name) make up the rest of your faction. You have the ability to be recruited. On Cop reports you will normally show as "innocent" so long as you remain a Traitor. If you are not recruited and both Framers die, you will perish with them. If you are recruited successfully, you will convert to a Mafia Goon and will join the rest of your team in the QT. Good luck!

Rules

1. This will be a Normal Mafia game. Town wins when all threats have been eliminated. Mafia wins when they have gained parity or nothing can prevent this.

2. Lynch Mechanic will be Hybrid Hammer. Whoever has the most votes at the end of the Deadline will be lynched. Ties will be decided randomly. Use the tags to place a vote. You do not have to unvote to change votes.

3. Phase Length is mutable. Generally I would like to keep to a 48/24 schedule but I will adjust as necessary. D1 countdown will not begin until all players have checked in. All times will be in PST.

4. You are expected to adhere to the site's Code of Conduct. Be mindful of your language and treat each other with respect. If there is an issue, please advise me through your provided Role PM.

5. No outside communication except through channels I have provided.

6. Embrace the Taint.

Madness is inevitable. For these brave men who traveled here to become weapons of the Dragon Reborn, it is inevitable. Their downward spiral of doom began as soon as they made the decision to start this journey. Some alone and some with families, no one escapes the madness. The sweet vileness of the Taint, invigorating power and wretched insanity - no one was left untouched by it.

Explosions and rumblings were an everyday occurrence at the Black Tower as the Soldiers and Dedicated honed their skills of destruction under the watchful eye of the Asha'man. Lightning bolts coursed down from the sky to blow craters into the earth, fountains of fire spouted from thin air and scorched everything within reach. The Asha'man barked orders and directions to which their underlings toiled, sweat on their brows as they struggled to handle the rushing torrent of the Power that filled them.

Today was different. A certain gloom had settled over the solitary fortress as if the Wheel were foreshadowing the events to come. An explosion erupted in the midst of the intense training, too loud and too powerful for this controlled environment. A cloud of dust billowed up into the gray sky above, and as help arrived they found nothing but rubble of the building that had formerly been a barracks for Soldiers and Dedicated. None had survived, they found, once the destruction had been cleared. A dozen twisted and broken bodies were lined side by side and their identities realized. Was this a result of the madness? Had one of the Soldiers been attempting to channel unsupervised and caused this destruction? Confusion and fear were powerful emotions, but soon the true nature of this accident was revealed when at last they dug out the last two figures. Two senior Asha'man were now added to the death toll, and with their slaying there was no longer a question of what had happened. Someone, or someones, had succumbed to the madness and had turned on their own.

Andrej and Lenlo had been murdered.

The evening after the incident was a somber one. Times were never exactly jovial in a camp of men who could go mad at any moment, and this event had been a sobering reminder of that reality. The madness could come for anyone, affect them in different ways. How could one trust another when they couldn't trust their own mind?

The slain were given burial rights, and that evening three particularly senior and powerful Asha'man were summoned and given a task: assemble a team of trusted allies and find those responsible for this atrocious act.

They didn't realize that one of their own was already going mad.

It is now Day 1. Game on!

    • it was definitely happenstance, leigh butler's explanation is  pure conjecture.
    • Book one wasn't guaranteed any sequels when it came out, so it had to have an ending tha could pass for a stand-alone. When it sold well, sequels were green lit, and it became the first of a series.   Things changed with hindsight and Jordan changed as a writer and the story changed and grew more complicated.   and everyone leveled up, Rand and the forsaken.   you can construct meaning behind happenstance but I think it was mostly happenstance.
    • That theory actually makes a great deal of sense.   It doesn't explain why they created it in the first place though, as Jordan said it wasn't used for the purpose it was intended for. That said, I suppose it would have been very handy for Rand to have clean Saidin when he was starting out.
This made me think of a more literary question - should Jordan have killed off two of the chosen at the beginning of the series? It kind of undermined their status right from the start to die from an untrained farmer and a damaged plant creature. Might it have been better for Someshta to have wounded Balthamel and then Rand caught them by surprise by securing the Eye - then they retreat?    I think the ending would still have been fairly dramatic and it wouldn't really change anything about the long term arc of the series (neither character really needed to be doing anything for the next few books, they could just carry out some schemes off screen, finding artefacts etc. until they get better bodies) - but it may have built more tension to avoid the death of any of the Chosen until book 3.   Thoughts?
    • I'll do my best to start the game on Monday. The setup is done.   I'll be doing role pms from my phone so its gonna be fairly simple. =)
    •     @Cross  Well you were a pretty amazing mentee, so I guess we did good
