Perrin and Masema

When Perrin first makes contact with Masema in PoD, they are still armed.  What has changed from the time when Nynaeve visited the Prophet and everyone had to relinquish their weapons?  Is he no longer worried about assassination?

Masema's madness may have been progressive, so neither challenges need to be answered by a sensible response.

He may think he is more invulnerable.

He may generally treat women better than men.

Nynaeve asked for a favor, magnanimity is easy then.

Perrin came after attacking some men

Sure Masema's madness was progressive. When he and the Shienarans left the lot in the Dragon Reborn he was just moderately crazy, ie Perrin didn't like him for instance. Fires of Heaven, he evidently still allowed people around who wore weapons, probably not in his presense, it would have gotten worse. But remember the vision Masema said he had had of the saviour, I don't remember in which book. I just think he was a tool and was played as a tool by one of the Forsaken, dunno who. Masema was awfully reluctant to enter gateways, but when they meant he could stay where he needed to be, in his own mind, he didn't mind it at all. I think he was mad, but it was also methodical madness and Compulsive madness.

It's not inconsistency, you can learn more about what happened behind the scenes by what he did (Awfully complicated, yea, but It's what I've done)

Edit: so something is incongruent: it's not a flaw, it's a fact, it mandates something that has happened behind the scenes.

So puzzle it out then. What is written is what happened. There's a score on the background, outside, wherever, that we don't know about. You can then deduce something we don't know.

There seems to be a inconsistency, but in reality there isn't. Facts are facts, aside from typos I've never known RJ to put in any errors, he had it worked out. You can work it out.

I believe that seems incongruent, then start with what are all the things incongruent, and have thoughts on how it could be explained, check the thoughts gel with other things with Masema.

(Edit: I'm no specialist on Masema, and I've done this sort of thing before, It's nicers for you... I'd just through out Graendal;) ) Good Luck!

Seems like a lot of smoke and mirrors and overly complicated to explain a simple inconsistency. A lot easier and more obvious that Jordan forgot about the weapons ban. Even from the Shienarans.

This is not a knock on Jordan or WoT. Finding inconsistencies is an Easter egg for me.

  • 3 weeks later...

So why was Perrin's Group allowed to carry weapons after they had attacked the prophet's men? I don't even think the madness accounts for that.

I had forgotten about that!  I remember now that the guy he let go was there when Perrin visited and Perrin argued or said something about people collecting ears or something and the Prophet backed down but still maintained that he wouldn't make use of gateways, and then agreed to after Faile was kidnapped.  Probably because it would keep him away from Rand longer(Forsaken Influence?).
