I'm on my third reading of the epic series WoT (currently reading "Crossroads of Twilight"). My first turn was in the early 00's. I really enjoyed the series but there are so many books to read that I didn't get around to my second reading until Amazon released the WoT series. 

While it was fun to see some of my favorite characters come to life with their amazing casting choices (except for Mat...I have thoughts), I was a bit disappointed in how the writers and creators chose to introduce Randland. The opening scene introduces the Red Ajah and not Emond's Field. The series finally gets good in season 3 and then they go and cancel it! Sigh. But I digress...

I'd love some tips on how things are run here. If I were an RJ character in the Wheel of Time, I would be Samarah of Arafell, Accepted in the White Tower striving to be a Yellow. My family are farmers, south of the Blight but always wary of Shadowspawn. I've already eyed a training Warder that I have my heart set on. I'm not complicated. I just want to heal people. That's my only ambition.

I hope to find community here. From what I've seen, it's pretty great.

Last year, I finally finished WoT after 20+ years of not really reading books at all. I stopped reading after Crossroads of Twilight when it was first released (life and all), but I rediscovered the books thanks to the TV show and Rosamund Pike's audiobook versions. I finished up with Kramer and Reading and finally got the end of the story! Audiobooks were ideal for me, since I've been recovering from knee surgeries and could listen while doing physio exercises. I've got more surgeries ahead of me and still can't walk properly, so Wheel of Time has become my comfy obsession and distraction.

After finishing the books, I decided to try my hand at painting character portraits based on the details given in the texts. Jordan's descriptions are so rich and clear in some passages, and I didn't often see a lot of fan art depicting outfits Jordan described. Where characters have an iconic look (ie Mat and his hat, or Galad in a whitecloak uniform), I'll do them in those. I do the basic portrait, and then later turn it into a graphic with variations if needed (ie, I wanted to give Morgase a Queen Elizabeth frill despite it not being in the books, but couldn't work in the Andorran stole with it, so she has an alt version with no frill where she wears her stole.)

So, I started a long term project/distraction to plug away at this year. But! I'm probably going to need help locating descriptions in the books where I can't remember them, or if I forget details. 

My next subject is Gawyn, and I'm planning to paint him in the outfit he's described as wearing in TDR, Chapter 16, Hunters Three, which is basically a dark green coat and white shirt, so nothing too complicated, but I was wondering if there are any other passages describing his clothing. I know in EotW, he's written as wearing red, white, and gold clothing, a coat and cloak that are brocaded and embroidered, but I've already done Rand and Morgase in red and don't want more red lol.

If anyone has any suggestions of where I can look in the text for descriptions of what Gawyn wears, I'd be eternally grateful!

I'm a massive WoT fan. As of 2026-3-11, I have:

1. Discovered WoT by virtue of picking up Crossroads of Twilight in a bookstore circa 2005 or so.
2. Read all of the main series and New Spring twice.
3. Listened to the main series audio books about six or seven times.
4. Converted The Complete Wheel of Time and TWOTC into markdown↗ and JSON↗ files for my own use.
5. Started getting meaningfully involved in online WoT discussion during the 2020 pandemic.
6. Founded The Band of the Red Hand↗ in 2021.
7. Read the Big White Book twice.
8. Skimmed much of The Wheel of Time Companion.
9. Read Origins of the Wheel of Time and given a 2-hour review↗ of it.
10. Made a "pilgrimage" to Charleston, including the library at The Citadel, Ogier Street, and the sidewalk in front of the property where Robert Jordan wrote The Wheel of Time. On the way back, I stopped by a suburban neighborhood with street names like "Farshaw" and "Cauthon". Incidentally, the Farshaw street sign was very askew↗, as though it had been hit by a dump truck or some such.
11. A future such trip will involve perusing Jordan's notes.
12. Recruited both of my sisters into reading WoT. The younger has finished the series and is fairly active in my Discord. The older has great difficulty liking any of the significant female characters except Moiraine and Nynaeve and bailed on the series after Birgitte was ripped from Tel'aran'rhiod in The Fires of Heaven.
13. Assembled a Mat Cauthon costume. I'm still working on procuring the ring, the foxhead medallion, and the throwing knives. He's not my favorite character, but he's probably the most entertaining character. He's also the character whose physical description I most closely match. Also, as founder of a Discord called The Band of the Red Hand↗, I've gone by the alias Mat Cauthon frequently.

Androl isn't a favorite character of mine (and I absolutely believe it's a shame Logain's story suffered to give us Androl), but he's an interesting character and I happen to love the leatherworking excerpt despite having no knowledge of the subject myself. • Loial - Excellent character, excellent person. I'll fight anyone who says otherwise.
• Egwene al'Vere - Good character, pretty bad person. Not a Mary Sue.
• Perrin Aybara - Excellent character, superb person, held back by his storyline. Would never kill his wife or get married while pining after his friend's girl.
• Faile Bashere - Occasionally annoying, but I don't hate her.
• Mat Cauthon - Excellent character, good person, some terrible traits. Not a thief!
• Moiraine Damodred - One of the best female characters in fiction. Not a fool who couldn't selectively truth-tell out of a paper bag.
• Nynaeve al'Meara - Not a fan of early Nynaeve, but I don't hate her. Big fan of late Nynaeve. Would never try to kill someone on impulse, especially when she needs said someone.
• Lan Mandragoran - Excellent character, superb person. Absolutely had something "to die for" before meeting Moiraine.
• Androl Genhald - Don't love him, don't hate him. Very interesting, but I think it was a mistake to curtail Logain Ablar for his sake.
• Elayne Trakand - I like early Elayne. I dislike her more and more as the series progresses. Making her the overall commander of the Light was silly. The books give no solid reason to conclude she and Aviendha were ever romantically involved, and the baths are not remotely evidence to the contrary.
• Bela - Awesome, but not the Creator.
• Lanfear - Dead.
• Brandon Sanderson - Good author, excellent worldbuilder. Lots of shortcomings in TGS-AMOL, but did better than I ever expected or would reasonably have thought possible.
• WoT Romance - Conforms very well to my preferences. I don't care to read much romance, so the frequent "off-screen" development works well. Honestly, I could have done with a little less of the "on-screen" stuff.
• The Comics - I own a copy of the first volume of New Spring, but I'm not really a fan of the medium.
• The World of Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time - Fun, interesting. Unreliable and often subtly wrong in its wording. Perfectly fine as an "in-universe" document.
• The Wheel of Time Companion - Good and useful, but with (understandably) so little novel information that I've had a hard time working through it and have yet to finish it as of 2026-03-28.

I read the WoT and finished a full read through about 10 years ago. It always stuck with me like no other book and I am now rereading through it a second time. I really felt I wanted to be part of a community because burn me, I just don’t stop thinking of WoT. I’m sort of new to forums like this online so any suggestions on how to be active and actually contribute is welcomed. Hope to meet you all! 

I've been a Wheel of Time fan since the mid 90's. I was involved in some WoT MU*s (online text based roleplay). Specifically Tales of Ta'veren and Cuendillar. The later of which I staffed at and where I acquired this online WoT username. I mostly stayed away from the fandom while the books were coming out besides those two MU*s. In the last few years I was drawn in by the Wheel Weaves podcast which helped reinvigorate a reread, lead me to WoT Discord servers and eventually to producing a few WoT song Parodies for WoT Idol (http://www.youtube.com/@mycoursouvra). I eventually found the Dragonmount Discord (thanks to Rapunzel) and wandered over here. I wouldn't mind getting involved in roleplay again though I need to figure out how it works on a forum site.

Over 20 years ago, I dabbled in the RP side of Dragonmount. After high school, though, life smacked me upside the head and I stopped playing. I had no idea this site was still around until this past weekend, and here I am. Part of me is still convinced this is some kind of fever dream, so I am very excited to interact with everyone to prove that this is, indeed, real.

I've been into the WoT series for a little less than 3 decades now, a couple more years and it'll be 3 decades, and never got around to introducing myself. So here goes.

I was perusing the Web looking for WoT lore to enrich my knowledge of the Westlands. After having reread the series my 4th or 5th time. The WoT Encyclopaedia lead me here. At first, I was going to leave, but almost instantly found a CYOA that piqued my interest. @Ithillian Turambar helped me find the Organizations. I cannot thank her enough for this. This got me into the Band, where I am currently trying to move up the ranks in the Infantry. This caused me to get my Wife, @Prowler involved. 

Currently we have been hanging out in the Band, and in Shayol Ghul... I know, it can be a scary place, but it feels good to embrace one's dark side from time to time. My Wife has also been hanging around the White Tower as well. I will find my way there someday, but for now, I am helping breathe life into organizations that have been quiet. It saddens me to see the Black Tower full of nothing but echoes. Maybe one day we can breathe new life into it. I don't want to see any organization disappear. I have heard there was a Wolfkin, possibly Aiel, and somewhere I think I read there was an Ogier Stedding! If dying Organizations can be revived, who's to say that dead Organizations can't be resurrected! I would love to be a Wolfbrother, even an Aiel! Heck, being an Ogier would be just as awesome. So, PM me, come check out the Organizations with me, or just chitchat on this thread. There is a home for everyone here, and sometimes, more than one home! Quoting @Ithillian Turambar to me in a PM, "you can join all the organizations!" Come find your home in Dragonmount and meet new friends who are just as excited about WoT as you are. You'll be pleasantly surprised!

I'm not sure how many original members there would be but I will be interested to see if I recognise any names. I hope you are all well and look forward to getting to know you and delving back into the stories and lore of The Wheel of Time, as well as perhaps creating my own stories to boot.

My most reckonings, I'd be considered a newcomer to RJ's WOT. Although, I read a ton of fantasy - I only got sucked into WOT around the covid pandemic era. If I recall I was on the last bit of the 3rd book by the time the Amazon TV series first aired.

Prior to that - I'd always heard about The Wheel of Time but it kept getting pushed down my read list for no particular reason - I started reading Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archives due to my brother recommending Way of Kings (which is my fav Sanderson book) and Mistborn sagas and I heard he was the guy who finished WOT after RJ's untimely passing. 

Slipping into the books - I fell in love with the Emond's Fienders, and found myself getting more invested page by page - by the time I reached the end of WOT the characters felt like old friends. RJ's world building, and his ability to weave familiar mythology and fantasy themes into a new story is something I have a lot of respect for. 

I mainly joined this forum because I consider myself a WOT fan - no one I know has read the WOT in full which makes having a conversation about it outside a place like this, slim pickings. Another reason is ever since finishing the books, I've had some withdrawal symptoms lol. It's seriously hard for me to find anything quite so engrossing to read.

Maybe it would interest some long time WOT fans to know the books still attract newcomers - ^_^

I have visited these forums many times too, though I have never registered to post anything I find myself wanting to now, hence registering. Although I have not ever seen a requirement for people to post here first to introduce themselves I have seen people berated for not doing so in previous forum visits/reads. So, hi!

I have been enjoying the TV show, moving between sadness for the things they've had to change or drop and happiness for the fact that the show is improving and encompassing more of the story as it goes on. There are a small list of scenes I personally like and hope to see, as I am sure every fan has their small list too, so we'll see how that goes. 

I’m particularly interested in how the show has adapted the books and hearing different fan theories about the future of the series. It’s been great seeing how the fandom has grown, especially with the new TV series bringing even more attention to the books.

If anyone has recommendations for discussions or in-depth lore topics to dive into, I’d love to join! I’m also happy to share my thoughts on character arcs and plot developments if anyone’s interested.

I've been reading WoT for about 3 years and have made it up to the aftermath of the Caemlyn in book 5, the Fires of Heaven. I'm really enjoying the series especially the more recent books that I've read. The Visions of Rhuidean is one of my favorite pieces of story telling that I've experienced. I typically listen to the audio books on my commute home from work but will sometimes pull out a physical copy or look for a chapter summary on the TarValon Library wiki to answer some of my own questions, especially when it comes to keeping track of who's who. Keeping the Forsaken straight is probably my biggest challenge right now being an audio book listener, but I think I'm getting a feel for who's who and trying to figure out their motivations is interesting: I'm shocked to see Asmodean playing so nice right now, I assume he's just incredibly afraid of Lanfear. I also do watch the show, overall I thought the first two seasons were a little rough but they did get me into the series but it seems to be getting better and although the rate that things are happening is really ramping up, I think they've done a much better job at bringing the cool moments from the Shadow Rising to the screen.

Today, as I was listening, I had a question that I really wish I could talk with someone about, which is what motivated me to seek out the community here. Rand was thinking about his Lews Therin Telamon memories and the other names of the Forsaken while in a post battle discussion with Asmodean and Aviendha. As I mentioned before, this got me thinking of Asmodean's motivations which in turn made me wonder about the cyclical nature of the world and what people believe will happen after the last battle. This caught my interest, because in some ways it doesn't make sense based on my understanding of Ishamael's beliefs, but maybe I'm jumping to another question too quickly. Let me try and spell out my noticings and wonderings. Hopefully there's a minimal amount of mistakes and misunderstandings and you can follow my thought process.

1. Is the prophesized last battle part of the cycle? I guess I always assumed it was. That after the event that released the Dark One, my understanding was there would be a period of respite and progress and then the Dark One would come back again in the next age.

2. What do the people of the world think will happen if the light wins? If they lose? How does this belief change depending on the factions individuals belong to?

3. Historically, the dragon has always won. If the Dark One won and it wasn't a reality ending event, yes I could see avoiding it would still be the preference, but it wouldn't carry the fate altering weight that this event seems to. Why would immortal characters like the Forsaken join the Dark One for fleeting victories every few centuries? What would start the cycle over again once the Dark One is in a position of unbridled power?

4. This particular last battle might be different. Maybe it would bring an end to the cycle of the Dark One's rise to power and influence on the world. I'm not sure why this one is different. Maybe it's because it's the during the age we're reading about in the book series. But from my reading and some of the characters' dialogue it seems implied that there could be a change this time. Maybe Rand is more different than previous Lews Therins.

5. If Ishamael believes that the Dark One's success is inevitable over a long enough time line, why is Rand still alive? No dragon at the last battle means the light loses. Ishamael makes it sound like this outcome has happened before, what happened after that? Why wasn't that the end of it? What else needs to happen for the Dark One to win entirely?

I think I might be losing the thread of my initial question. I'm really not trying to ask what happens in the rest of the series, but I am wildly curious about what people believe has happened in the past and what they think might happen. These beliefs seem core to any motivations the different characters might have.

Thanks for reading and engaging with my questions! It really is such an imaginative series, it's a lot of fun to think about these fictional histories and I appreciate hearing about things I may have missed and various interpretations. I'm not the most concerned with spoilers, especially when it comes to references to the world and lore which can typically be kept more general anyways.

I’m Millon. I was active here well

over ten years ago. I did pop back in from time to time to see how things were but I never really stuck it out. Too busy “looking for home” instead of trying to see what’s here now.  “Hey! What went into the old Blockbuster Rental over on fifth? Oh. A Spirit of Halloween. Makes sense….” I was mostly in the White Tower Social Group though I was in The Band, Black Tower and Kin. Not a whole lot though aside from the Tower. 
 

I’ve only ever read the entire series at length once believe it or not. I read the first nine more times than I care to think about though. Just life got in the way. Not because I’m particularly fond of the first nine. I forced myself to find time to finish it when it ended. That’s all. I find it hard to read anything anymore really! lol. 
 

I am filled with gross disappointment for most of the show. I think they absolutely NAILED channeling and shadowspawn and most of the casting is pretty fantastic. 
 

I guess I’m writin a new intro because I’d really like to see what’s great about this place today and not filtering it through memories. Kinda like watching the show! Hahahahaha. 
 

I’m a single dad of a ten year old special needs kiddo. Of course, a fantasy nerd. I paint Warhammer figurines and I enjoy working on my D&D campaign setting though I don’t actually play (yet) lol. Critical Role really re-ignited that interest about ten or so years ago. Dont seem to have much of an attention span for new TV shows or movies or things on TV. Unless you want to get down with Bluey discussions! I’m down for that! Greatest bloody cartoon ever. Not a big sportsball guy but GO BILLS!! 
 

I’m glad to be back though. Really hoping I can stick around again. I’ve built some of the greatest relationships of my life in this place. Friends I’ve never even ‘met’ but I consider closer than most of my family and friends. I’m glad to still see some of them here. Looking forward to meeting new friends as well.

I had been wanting to read The Wheel of Time for years - since I was a teenager - and I decided to finally get to it at the grand old age of 30. I wish I had indeed read it back when I was a teenager and had the chance to be part of all the discussions and speculations and the wait for each book to come out but hey, I guess the most important thing in the end is experiencing the vast and rich world of the books. I'm currently on chapter 42 of The Eye of the World and excited to finish it soon and move on to The Great Hunt.
