Random thought for the day.
Remember that at times of toughness, sometimes all that is needed is a listening ear that does not judge. No opinion is necessary, simply the act of hearing what another has to say, and then acknowledging that you are there for them.
This is the concept, I was reminded of a few days ago, when I was called to deal with a person in Mental Crisis, who was possibly a risk to self/others. Sitting down with this person, I asked what was wrong, and then listened.....nothing more.
When the person was done, I asked a few small questions for clarification, and then offered options for assistance that the person could pursue. Speaking with the other Officers that called me in, I pointed out that listening could have forestalled most of the situation.
When did we become so selfish a society, that we cannot listen to someone else talk, without injecting our own opinions.
