The Dawn Chorus

Apparently, my company is going to be on my doorstep sooner than I anticipated. This is both squee and eek, since that means I have less time to fish my head out of sleepy funk than I expected. And I'm guessing that she remembered what I said about Tube-to-train, as I've not gotten any angry calls about being lost or on fire; I did receive a text letting me know she cleared customs, hence knowing she arrived earlier than I thought.

It's not too bad, though - we didn't leave a lot on the 'to do' list hanging for this morning. There's still some vacuuming to be had, since it's dead disrespectful to do that at 11 or so at night. My husband even made heroic efforts to find his desk, which he's not seen since before our daughter was born. It's still probably the dustiest pocket of the house, but hey, got to hit the guest with at least one deathtrap, right? Right. <__<

Otherwise, I can have successes? I took advantage of having actual quiet time last night (Neil was at a meeting, and Leah was taking a nap) to knock some things off of my to-do list. I'm still not sure if I've warmed to this character, but I'm starting to get a fix on her. Like most characters, she's developed in ways that I didn't expect when I initially put pen to paper - she's still a bit shallow, a bit sallow, and even snobbier than I'd envisioned. But all of these things suit a maiden of 15 in a way they don't suit a woman of 20-something, so there's room to iron some of the worst faults down. We'll see what comes out of the forthcoming roleplay with her roommate; there's more to be gained there than in the godder-spawned, moronically-enforced writing of the Arches. And yes, I will gladly say as I said as an admin, as I said as an Ajah head, and will say now as a 'norm' - this is the stupidest thing to force on people. Not everyone wants to have a future plan lined up for a character, and this basically forces them to. I think, if people WANT to do it, then it's a great option; those who loved to do them when I was a Novice and Accepted loved doing them and did them with gusto. The rest of us were relieved to not be stuck with it. And I will be doing my best to work around or write around it, much like I did with the equally moronic-to-force Accepted-to-Aes Sedai test, even if it's 1,000 iterations of:

I don't have to talk about this, the Mistress of Novices said I don't have to tell anyone what happened.

I don't have to talk about this, the Mistress of Novices said I don't have to tell anyone what happened.

I don't have to talk about this, the Mistress of Novices said I don't have to tell anyone what happened.

I don't have to talk about this, the Mistress of Novices said I don't have to tell anyone what happened.

I don't have to talk about this, the Mistress of Novices said I don't have to tell anyone what happened.

If that works in the books, then it should work in the role-play. Don't get me wrong - I'm all for reasonable reqs. I'm NOT for godder-forced reqs that are nearly punitive in their ability to prevent and discourage people from trying to make and play characters in styles that suit them. I think Elgee has done a wonderful job adjusting them to be more comfortable and reasonable (as evidenced by the influx of new members), but that that one is still needing doing to. :) I don't say this to kick up a fuss (I never do, in spite of what some might like to think *grins*), but because when I can think of 2 out of 100 that LIKED doing it... then it's probably not a good req.

And now, time to be lulled awake by the dulcet tones of the vacuum - rapture. ;)
