Darth Vader was not happy. How many times did bungling subordinates have to… He watched Kendal Ozzel collapse on the view screen in front of him.
"Captain Piett," he said to the officer clearly trying to not look at the man dying next to him, "make ready to land our troops beyond their energy field and deploy the fleet so that nothing gets off the system. You are in command now, Admiral Piett." With a thud of finality, Ozzel's body hit the ground, the telekinetic execution complete.
Vader's orders had been clear, but instead of dropping the fleet out of lightspeed at the outskirts of the system, that incompetent fool had brought the fleet into too close a proximity to the planet of Hoth, where the Rebel Alliance's base is held. This had triggered the rebels' emergency sensor, activating an energy shield which would make a star destroyer bombardment essentially useless.
He strode from the room convinced that when you needed something done right, you went and did it yourself...
Welcome to the White Ajah Carnival event: The Battle of Hoth! This scene from Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back is one of the most iconic winter events in film, and here at DM we are going to have our very own reenactment!
Now, there are a couple of differences between the real battle and ours here. For one, we like our members a lot, and we can't have you shooting each other full of holes with blasters and such, so the "battles" will take place as a variety of puzzles, testing your abilities. A war of wits can be just as deadly...
Secondly, the story line is not locked in! You will be split into two sides, and depending on which group wins the puzzles, the story line will progress differently, perhaps very differently than the movie.
Sound fun? Here's what you need to do to take part. Post in this thread with the following information:
- Your name
- What side you prefer to be on, if you have a preference. Choices are the Rebel Alliance or The Empire.
- For funsies, does where you live look like Hoth right now?
The competition will start some time Monday night EST, around 36 hours from now. You'll be able to sign up after that, but if you have a particular side you want to be on, it's a first come first serve basis if one is more popular than the other, so sign up now!
Join! It proves to be quite the adventure.
